awesome job Mike! This is the simple, straightforward, no bs, no pushy product or membership, answers the freaking ONE question we all want to know, type content that we need more of. Keep up the great work.
Great work as always Matt. Just remember that environment will also dictate power usage. Using in cold weather vs summer time, the compressor will run harder to cool. My Yeti will hold ice for nearly a week in winter. Two days in summer.
Just what I was looking for! Thanks! Also, note that you had the fridge mostly empty. The more full a fridge/cooler is, the more efficient it's going to be.
Nice video. Just wanted to mention that pre-chilling the frig and adding cold food will change the results most likely adding hours. And ambient temperature is a huge factor.
Actually really impressed how long that kept a charge, I'm planning on getting a 1000w Jackery with the same fridge for a tahoe camper conversion. Should be plenty, thanks for the video!
Glad you enjoyed the video. This has been a great set up for us. We have not run into any issues as long as we run our truck every couple days to recharge the Jackery.
@@MWDAdventures really impressed with the time that little Jackery lasted! Question: How long do you have to run or drive the truck in order to fully charge it? All the best.
Hi Matt. Great video, thanks! Question: I believe the Jackery charges at 3 or 3.5 amp. With the Jackery charging while the fridge is on, does the battery still discharge? (Obviously slowly). Or is the charging rate higher than what you're consuming, meaning it stays at 100% ? Thanks for the help!
Very useful review. I’ve been thinking about the jackery 500 for just this purpose to keep my 12 v fridge going for a few days without relying on my car battery. Thanks 😃
He’s only charging it to full then it kept the fridge cold for 60 hours...he could charge it at home first if he wanted or also use solar panels or the car charger
In Australia we don’t have the jackery. But I use a dometic plb40 in the exact same way and alternate between the car and permanent 100w Renogy solar on my ute.
I power the fridge fully stocked w food for 8hrs at home and use my tacoma's 110 power outlet in the truck bed until I get to my campsite. I can get 37hrs of run time on a jackery 300 pw station. You can also power the fridge off at night and the food will stay pretty close to the last temp for about 8 hrs or so (i keep my fridge in the bed of my truck away from the sunlight and in a insulated cover). I imagine that using the 100w solar panel to recharge during the day would allow me to run this 24-7 for as long as I want to.
This was an awesome test, thanks. The only issue with test is that it was tested at home room temperature vs. a car or campground where can be hotter and need more power to keep cold but hoping doesn't drastically change these numbers.
One can the time by Cooling the fridge down indoors on AC first, before putting it in the car... And also rigging a inexpensive insulative cover for the fridge (like, out of reflectix or something). Also, once it's full of cold items, it will continue to keep cooler longer.
Great video and very helpful to those that want to see if this can work! I too tried a similar experiment using my smaller Blueitti 350w power station with my Engel MRO40F and it worked flawlessly as well! Thanks for sharing your insight and thoughts on this type of set-up!
I cannot thank you enough for this truly practical video! I've been wondering ( and a bit concerned) whether my jackery would be able to keep my compressor fridge going for a decent length of time. Looks like it can! This is a fantastic demonstration!
We have run this setup for multiple summers. It has worked well for us. We charge the power station from the truck while we are traveling and unplug it from the car when we are in camp so we don't drain the battery. Then the fridge is plugged into the power station all the time. We have used the Jackery 1000 and the Anker 1500 for our power stations - they both work well. Our daytime temps are typically in the 80-90F.
Nice job....intresting. I just bought a 500 and was interested in just this scenario. The best point was it was opened several times during the test. Thanks again
Hey Matt, Gotta question for ya: With the pickup running, can it charge the Jackery, WHILE the Jackery is also running the fridge? Thank you for the informative video.
can you power a 12 volt DC diesel heater off one of these? It uses 6-9 amps on start up, would have to get an adapter connector or something great review by the way
Domedic fridge is one of the best out there. It's a little expensive side but very efficient. I have a CFX 28. I run 24/7 for 3 yrs. Currently, it consumes a bout 20 ah/day in winter and up to 35 ah/day in hot summer.
I have been testing another fridge/freezer that is very efficient. So efficient that when the compressor turns of the Jackery is only discharging 1watt to 2 watts. It is great but can be a double edge sword. I just found out today from Jackery that the Jackery 500 will turn itself off after 12 hours if the compressor does not turn on and continues to only discharge 2 watts or under per hour. While testing it I would find my unit turned off and the Jackery. I was getting read to send portable fridge back thinking there was something wrong. Just FYI.
Yes I am aware of this it’s a safety thing. I just would unplug and replug. 12 is enough time for overnight and I am in my color a lot more then 12 hours so it hasn’t been a problem.
60 hours isn't bad, I'd figure in real world it would probably be a bit less do to more open/closing and other variables, so maybe 2 days safe running. Really good actually. So I'm curious, how long would this take to charge from 15% (or after those two days) running your car if it was plugged into the DC outlet?
Love all your videos! Thank you both so much! Do you have a jackery dedicated solely to powering the fridge and another to power all other electronics? I’m concerned of disconnecting fridge at camp if I only have one jackery.

I would love to see a test where you had their solar panel hooked up to the Jackery while it’s charging and see how long it would last while its charging the jackery and then plug in the fridge and see if that would last longer and not kill the jackery down to zero percent battery!
Great video! Re discharging batteries, it's a lithium 12v battery inside that box, you shouldn't run it below 20% really but if they told you 15 go with that. Same applies to your smartphone. You can make your smartphone battery last 10 years or more if you keep the charge between 20-80% as much as possible. If not using the jackery for a long time, I suggest leaving it with a charge of 70-80% before storage.
i wonder if plugging in the fridge to get it to temps right before you leave for a trip would help increase the battery’s life since it won’t have to do the initial cool down.
We do typically plug it in (in the house) before we leave to cool it down before filling it up. Then we bring it out to the truck and connect it to the Jackery 500 while on the trip.
Question....complete newbie I have a deep.cycle 100 Ah battery.....if i used a 12 volt cig lighter clip.on adaptor would that power this fridge as long?? Like how many Ah is that jackery 500?
what's the point of the jackery if you're still plugging the jackery into your cig lighter? I thought the point would be to use the jackery as a standalone batter/not drain your car?
I could but then turning the truck off to stop for a hike for a couple hours I have to remember to plug the fridge back in the battery so I don’t drain the starting battery.
Now try that same test in the real world say Yuma Arizona camping on the colorado River. Lot different than a air conditioned and humidity conditioned home. Realistically it would run about 14 hours. Maybe
@@MWDAdventures Will be interested in that video. I have a Jackery 240 which will power 200W Lasko heater but...the heater initially drew up to 400W before it leveled off. It also drew the Jackery down quickly. I wonder if it will do the same on the Jackery 500.

Re discharging batteries, it's a lithium 12v battery inside that box, you shouldn't run it below 20% really but if they told you 15 go with that. Same applies to your smartphone. Question....complete newbie
I have a deep.cycle 100 Ah battery.....if i used a 12 volt cig lighter clip.on adaptor would that power this fridge as long?? Like how many Ah is that jackery 500?
no deep cycles can't be brought down very much before they are damaged. Lithium will out last it.
The manual says not to charge it below 0 C. Wasn’t there snow in that video?
But what about a home fridge, freezer? Thankyou
We have never tried it on those, but that would be a good thing to check out for possible power outages
Very informative thank you.
Ty
Do you think this would also be able to power a single induction top?
sci fi vampire I don’t know it would depend on amp draw. It would be close I would bet.
what's the point of the jackery if you're still plugging the jackery into your cig lighter? I thought the point would be to use the jackery as a standalone batter/not drain your car?
I only have it plugged in so I can recharge going down the road. In camp the 12 volt is unplugged.
Why don't you plug the fridge directly into the truck?
I could but then turning the truck off to stop for a hike for a couple hours I have to remember to plug the fridge back in the battery so I don’t drain the starting battery.
Great video 🤙👍
Can the battery be replaced when it wears out?
Now try that same test in the real world say Yuma Arizona camping on the colorado River. Lot different than a air conditioned and humidity conditioned home. Realistically it would run about 14 hours. Maybe
So do you know how many watts the frig used every time it cycled on and how often it cycle on and how long it cycled for
You should do a test with the “lasko my heat 200 watt heater”. The smallest electric plug in heater you can buy.
releasing a video today with a similar heater. stay tuned to the channel.
@@MWDAdventures Will be interested in that video. I have a Jackery 240 which will power 200W Lasko heater but...the heater initially drew up to 400W before it leveled off. It also drew the Jackery down quickly. I wonder if it will do the same on the Jackery 500.
CeeGee good idea for a video. I will see if I can test that. I don’t have a lasko my heat. I will look into ordering one and try it out with the jackery
Video review of the jackery 1000 is posted with heater tested.
