You do not need to renew your OCI, when you renew your foreign passport or change your overseas address. But if you insist and send the necessary paperwork and pay the fee, they will be happy to send you a renewed OCI. I have verified this i formation from Indian Embassy and they provided me the response in writing.

No need to affix physical photo on Digital photo. You just need to attach a Physical Photo to the Application form using a paper clip (no stapler, no glue or anything like that);

The four page document after submitting the online application I was informed it was evidence of the oci being renewed and all required information will be on the system? I am concerned as far the vfs global website it states to arrange an appointment after printing out the form. From there to follow the procedure. For renewed US passport and getting new OCI card reissue under Miscellaneous services section, there was a recent announcement from the Indian government that the OCI card reissue has been extended till 31/12/2021. Now Indian government is making this modification on their portal which will be launched at the end of the May, 2021. Therefore, Indian government is also requesting people to wait till this update is done. So, my question is: Should one still go ahead and apply for getting OCI card reissue application while update is being done? Any suggestion in this matter is truly appreciated.

Hi Ramesh, Thanks for your comment. If you made an OCI card previously, you will need to renew using OCI Miscellaneous Services. If you are going to make an OCI card for the first time, you will need to select New OCI. Additional documents are required for New OCI. Hope this helps.

@@AribaRam Right, use the same process I mentioned in my video. Again, the rules are framed in such a manner that what we think as optional may not be so in my opinion. So the rule says that once you have attained the age of 20, you do not have to renew an already existing OCI card every time you get a new passport until age of 50. The rules also say that you can avail of OCI re-issuance in case of change of personal particulars such as name, or in the case of change of address / occupation. It says "can" and not "must" for the change in name, change in address and profession so any reader will interpret it as optional. However, when you are traveling to India, you will be asked to furnish your OCI card upon boarding and then after landing. If they are strict about name matching in US passport and OCI card, one will be hassled. This can happen for example when a girl gets married after the age of 20. Whereas she had an existing OCI card, she might change her name based on husband's name or last name after wedding. So if she does so and gets a new US passport with the new name, but does not renew her OCI card, the name on the US passport and OCI card will not match anymore. If you ask me personally, I do not want to be hassled when I am traveling so I would advise applying for a new OCI card when name changes on US passport. I think address change and Occupation change (anyway, I keep it generic such as IT professional or Management professional) are more passable without getting the OCI card renewed every time US passport changes. I will request other readers to comment as well based on actual experience upon boarding a flight for India at an US airport or upon landing in India with an OCI card which had the old name whereas the US passport had a new name, if any.

I am wondering if the self attestation of the copies as "TRUE COPY" and the signature is enough for OCI Miscellaneous Services OR do we really need "Notarized Affidavit in Lieu of original documents"?
A couple of viewers shared with me that they were asked to send Notary signatures on document copies and send them again to VFS Global. On further investigation it seems they also had a change in address apart from getting a new US passport. Self attestation worked for me as well as a couple of friends but we only had the new US Passport number to be added to a new OCI card. If you do not want any hassle, you can just get your xerox copies of documents notarized at a local bank and send them.
If I am interpreting your question correctly, It could be filled in as 'Parent' if you are applying for your minor child or 'Legal Guardian' if you are applying for a minor for whom you are a legal guardian.

No. I did not go to a notary at all. With regard to address proof (I used Drivers license copy), copy of US passport and copy of OCI Card (information pages) I self-attested these xerox copies (wrote True copy on the page and put my signature underneath). I also sent the original OCI card as required by the process. I believe the Affidavit in lieu of Originals would be applicable in case you do not want to send the original OCI card for any reason in which case you can go to a notary with a xerox copy of the OCI card who would then verify the information and affix the notary stamp and signature. The Affidavit in lieu of Originals can also be used for other Originals but in the case of renewal the only Original needing to be sent is the OCI card. Hope this helps.
You need just two label, one to send the document to VFS Global and the other label which has your (for return) name and address, you need to place it along with the other documents you are sending them. Do not worry about the duplicate labels as long as the tracking numbers are not 4 different numbers. You can safely keep aside (ignore) the duplicates. Hope this helps.

Hi Rolling Stone, Yes absolutely. In fact that is what you need to do. Start a brand new Application and use the File Ref # that comes up for the new Application. Regarding payment: when I paid my fees, VFSGlobal showed me the following breakup (USD): Consular fee: $25 VFS Service fee: $15.90 ICWF fee: $3.00 Roundtrip Courier: $30 Total : $73.90 and over top of that a 3.50% convenience fee for a Grand Total of $76.49 Sorry but I do not know how the process works when you pay through check. I believe the 3.50% convenience charge is for payment through credit card and so you may not need to pay that. That means you will need to pay $73.90. There is also an alternative to not use their courier service in which case you can deduct a further $30 and pay $43.90. However you will be responsible for sending them them the document package using your method and also include a self-addressed envelope with requisite postage or a Return Label so they can send the OCI card to you. You may want to check with VFS Global. Can anyone else who reads this and who paid through Check share their experience?

@@TheRollingStoness Yes, the FedEx centre will provide you with an envelope which has a plastic case outside into which you can insert the label with the VFS address. They will help you if you ask them. The other label which has your name and address, you just need to place it with your other documents into the FedEx envelope you are sending to VFS. VFS guys will use a new FedEx envelope on their side when sending you the new OCI card. Hope this helps.
Hi, while entering my information in VFS Global website for my OCI Miscellaneous Services, it asks for a mandatory field for "Father's full Name" as it appears in US passport. However, it looks like the father's name is not mandatory in US passport, but my original OCI has the initials and the name of my father, but not like, first name, Middle Name, Last Name format. So, I am wondering if it is ok to enter it in VFS Global as same as it in my original OCI card?
As per you final courier documents you mentioned Return Label but when I printed I got only one label which is going from me (Applicant). From my Address to Indian Consular Address. Where do i get return label?
One of my friends shared with me recently that VFS global is nowadays taking care of the return label on their end. So once you send in your package, they will print out the return label on their end and mail you back the OCI card once processed successfully.
I called the call center and got the answer. In this case help desk recommended me to redo the entire government application form and VFS form including payment. Since I have already paid I need to request for the refund for the earlier transaction. I will update this thread as I progress.
You can renew OCI once US passport expires and you renew US Passport. (It is not mandatory to renew OCI after you turn 50 as long as US passport is valid)
Hi Subraman, My initial OCI was issued by Houston center. When I registered at OCI service, it has given me reference USAH007F9M21, not USAA (for atlanta). The VFS global is rejecting this reference number with - Government reference number is not valid. Please recheck if its correctly entered or belongs to the correct Consular Jurisdiction. Can you please help?
Hello Nara and Padmaja, If I am understanding your note, you were residing at Houston during the time your previous OCI card was issued. Now your residence is at Atlanta (or one of the locations serviced by Consulate General of India, Atlanta). I think you entered 'Houston' by mistake in response to the prompt 'Select Mission' at the time you were filling out the OCI Application form at ociservices.gov.in. You will need to start a new Application and provide Atlanta as the Mission so the Application can be processed correctly. You can discard the previous Application. If I have not understood your issue please let me know. Hope this helps.

I would go with the Father's name as it appears on the OCI card.

The VFS global is rejecting this reference number with - Government reference number is not valid. Please recheck if its correctly entered or belongs to the correct Consular Jurisdiction. Can you please help?
Hello Nara and Padmaja, If I am understanding your note, you were residing at Houston during the time your previous OCI card was issued. Now your residence is at Atlanta (or one of the locations serviced by Consulate General of India, Atlanta). I think you entered 'Houston' by mistake in response to the prompt 'Select Mission' at the time you were filling out the OCI Application form at ociservices.gov.in. You will need to start a new Application and provide Atlanta as the Mission so the Application can be processed correctly. You can discard the previous Application. If I have not understood your issue please let me know. Hope this helps.
