This was my fav movie of 2023. Glad to see it got a proper Atmos track. Probably helps out the movie only costs 15 mil to make. More money for audio mixing
@walter2695 I just got it on Vudu, a week later it's on Netflix dubbed. Next movie I'm waiting on is the Quit Place prequel. I think the 4K BR comes out in two weeks.
@@hababacon Yeah i almost bought it on vudu then someone told me that it was coming to netflix so i held off. i prefer the subtitles more since i want to hear the japanese but then i have to read haha its okay we can multi task. the september release will have english subs i believe.
@@SuperCollectorClark It was so much better. Hope it starts a trend. They could make ten movies for this cost, give a lot more people jobs, and even if only two or three of them hit, you still have more better movies.
Apparently, Godzilla Minus One just landed on Netflix in Asia today. English subtitles has some timing issues often appearing a few seconds before actual dialog is spoken. Also received confirmation that Netflix is offering the double D's for Godzilla Minus One. Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. If you have VPN, set course for Hong Kong or Taiwan and you're guaranteed to see Godzilla Minus One on Netflix. And the English subs appear to be timed perfectly with the English dub.
I watched the black and white version on JAL airline on the way home from Japan. I swear I wasn't crying, someone was cutting an onion on the airplane.
Excellent! Great review, as always, Shane! That LFE is life-changing! I should have known you already had a copy for yourself! I've watched it twice in two days, in color and black and white. The color version is incredible, and the black and white version is equally so. The LFE was so intense it kept my dogs up most of the night, long after the movie finished! LOL
Golly. Apparently the US will need to wait until october for physical 4k. The imports are pretty expensive. Oh gees and i just heard the part about no english subtitles haha.....i guess ill wait
Sad there are no English subtitles. When he said you will spend a lot of time reading 02:55 I was hopeful. Then followed up with how to put subtitles into a folder.
It has to do with a contract between WB Studios. I saw video explaining that the studios that produce Godzilla Minus One can’t release a Godzilla movie in the same year as a WB Godzilla movie. Hence the delayed US release. They basically have to wait until GxK finishes its run in the theaters and I guess after the 4K blu ray release.
How do you come up with the precise numbers - I've always wondered that lol. Like why 9.6 instead of 9 or 9.5, is there a method to the actual madness. But great review, you have been pumping them out lately with great production quality as always!
When the the great performance at the box office showed larger studios what is possible with lower budgets, it was incredibly refreshing. Now the physical release is out, it's almost embarrassing those same studios in visuals but more importantly audio. Minus 1 has really raised the bar as some do the bare minimum and have a static mix or don't map the sound well. Hats off to everyone involved.
Well…I know there’s no English subtitles, but I received a Gorgeous collector 4K box set of this from Japan a few days ago. So glad Shane did this review…can’t wait open this up and watch it. :)
I agree with your assessment on video and audio! I bought this as well and was surprised it came with a Steelbook, artwork, and a standee - nice touch and what a way to celebrate this movie!
AWEsome!!! Hearing from some1 in Japan about the review. I'm glad u did it and the Bass is what i expected - Hard & Heavy.. Can't wait to Break My Windows - lol...
This might be a movie I buy sight unseen when it comes to the US. I haven't seen an enjoyable Godzilla movie since I was a kid. None of the newer stuff does it for me. I can't care about the American actors. Since it looks and sounds great at least it will have those attributes and everyone else seems to think this one is pretty fun. Worth the $30 or so I think.
I'm definitely going to wait for a US release. I consider myself tech savvy and have the ability to rip 4k movies and add subtitles, but why do that if I don't have to. I'm not an instant gratification type of person, so I can wait a little longer so I have the subtitles on the disk. So i can't wait for it, but I can at the same time if that makes sense.
Hi Shane, would you be willing to do a video on “How to remux movie audio”? Or point me to a link that is well done? I’m interested in importing the Toho collectors edition and haven’t been able to find a “how to…” video. Thanks in advance.
Japanese showing hollywood how it should be done. This is Day -1 Pre order purchase .....this is exciting news for having the height channel Atmos experience , my neighbours gonna lov it 😂.
I saw this at Dolby Cinema, loved the film and the Atmos mix sounded amazing. I'll wait for the official US release since I don't want to deal that crazy subtitle thing. 😅
I am typically agnostic about sci-fi movies. I find them rather boring given their characteristic plot lines such as Marvel: “go towards the light”. I watched this movie on Netflix and I must say as I got into it, I got hooked! On Netflix, the presentation is in English. My Cinema50 (7.3 audio) and with its atmos “simulated effects” turned on (Auro 2D), I really enjoyed all the sound effects and jumped in my chair a few times given the totality of all the effects coming from everywhere. Watching on Netflix sufficed for me. I think what got me was the human touch to it plus the totally fantastic visual effects. I now see why it got a recent academy award for visual effects! WOW! WOW! WOW! Quite the surprise and a real home movie treat!!! Excellent review Shane. Thanks for the heads-up alert. I probably never would have watched it otherwise.
Can the Japanese blue ray be played on a ps4 and ps5 ? I see imports sold near me but don't know if I should get it due to this reason not knowing if it can be played on a ps4 ps5 us version of course
Still debating on pulling the trigger on a Japanese import, or just waiting for an official U.S. release. Either way, I WILL own this movie, hands down. 🙌
I imported it from Amazon Japan and would give an 8 for the picture and a full 10 for the sound. Enjoyed your review and think, we are the same somehow. Keep up your excellent reviews and thank you. 👍👍👍
I will wait for a U.S. release for sure. It makes sense for Japan to release one there with no English subtitles. They need to maximize profit and the U.S. versions will likely cost less.
OMG. I have the Japanese imported disk. OMG again. Atomic blast and explosion of this Godzilla is breathtaking. I'm not a fan of Japanese movie, but I have to keep this as my collection.
My BD-R burner doesn't support XL discs... I'd have to spend another $150 for a new burner and media... Nah, I'll just have to wait for the US release...
We watched it on a regular digital screen in a theater. It wasn’t crisp at all. It was quite soft. Sound was two dimensional with subpar bass. Movie itself is ok but my son and I were hugely disappointed with the audio and video quality. We thought they did that on purpose to mimic the story and environment back in 1940s. I will wait for review on US version. The human parts are better than the battle with Godzilla. It was emotional.
I would've bought the Japanese version if it had the English subtitles. But going through all of that to rip it and download subtitles is too much for me.
The only way to get most anime in 4K HDR is to import. I was waiting for a US release, but if one isn't coming out, I'll import. Another thing, Japanese releases of anime typically have much higher bitrates and audio quality than US releases.

This movie is absolutely fantastic. Can't wait to support this masterpiece when the US release comes out
