Thanks for the videoclip and the explanation, I have just ordered the new throttle body for my vehicle due to issues with acceleration and erratic low raves with engine cutting out, after connecting the obd reader I found the absolute throttle position sensor stuck at 83.7% without pressing the gas pedal, even after pressing the gas pedal and releasing it doesn’t move, eventually after I get the vehicle moving it fluctuates from 57% to 84.1% max but never goes below 57%… that explains why
How common is a bad throttle position sensor on a 1 year old new throttle body? I have all the faults and reduced power. Did everything from the grounds to replace tps on pedal. Still has the issue. Especially worse when it's cold and raining.
TPS has been replaced for a second time on a 2004 Honda Accord EX 2.4L K24A. 5V reference signal is good .5ohm PWM signal wire and fluctuates between .5-4.5V Ground signal 0.03. Let it relearn for 15 minutes cleaned out throttle bod it worked for an hour even after restarting it started getting worse within 1 hour. Signal wire reads ..68 ohms Honda's are picky. Doesn't shift right either low mpg low power. ECU signal checked out with the multimeter. So if it's not the TPS, not the wiring before hand works great what upstream can cause it to need recalibration. Going to ground it to the chassis instead of going digging but that's my best shot.
Is it possible for a TPS to be bad for, oh say 6 or 7, maybe 8 years? I have fixed and replace, replaced again - SO many parts! We finally figured out that its the throttle body causing problems. Idk if I just have the TPS fixed or go for the whole throttle body as well? I live in ND and my vehicle has had problems this long. If this fix doesnt leave me with a reliable winter vehicle, she's going to have to go. I love her, so Im hoping that this has just been missed all this time.
I have an old Dodge charger 2008 2.7 model in the last year it's turned on the lightning bolt light maybe five times . The mechanic told me to drive like that and if the light goes back on to drive it to him to be able to get the correct reading on his device but I'm afraid to drive it like that it shakes too much .
I have a 05 Chevy 2500 HD I’m so lost at this point. Because all the videos and comments I’ve been reading doesn’t sound like mine until it goes into limp mode and the P2135 is the code. But it will drive fine without and problems no stalls or high revs, it drives smoothly but once I cut the truck off and go to start it back up it’s in limp mode. I can clear the code and maybe get a week or more out of it till it doesn’t it again. I’ve replaced the pig tail and wires to the throttlebody. Replaced the throttlebody 4 times now and the foot pedal twice. relearned everything after each new one has been put on and within a week it happens again after I cut my truck off.
Did you ever get a read on it? I am about to delve into mine. Similar deal. Runs perfect until it doesn't. Also, did you check the grounds on yours? That is what I am going to do first, since it is free.
Can engine temperature affect the TPS? I'm not having any problems at idle. But when the engine gets up to operating temperature and on acceleration, that's when I start having sporadic hesitations, surges and stutters etc (But engine does not die) This only happens at warm operating temperature. When the engine is still cold I have no problems.
What about while in low rpm high gear and the rpm’s surge on and off while going uphill especially? Mostly in overdrive mode but a tiny bit in tow/haul mode. This is the issue I’m having. Replaced o2 sensors cuz I got a p0420 code and check engine light. It went away but still have this surging while cruising.🤦🏼♂️🤬🤬🤬
Yes. I have an 03 Chevy Express and the MAF and an O2 sensor, both were defective, and neither threw codes. Both sensors looked good on a scan tool but there were intermitent issues. Sometimes you have to analyze operational behavior. The transmission was recently rebuilt but sometimes shifts a little hard and it doesn't really accelerate as powerfully as it should. No codes but I'm going to replace the TPS.
Yes, if there’s no error code, a voltage test is the best way to check the TPS. Look for smooth voltage changes as you move the throttle. Any jumps or drops could indicate a problem.
I have a 2007 gmc sierra 1500 new body style. When the truck shifts, it take a long time too shift, or if I take my feet off the pedal, I’ll hear it finally shift. Then sometimes the rpm will go all the way up to 7 on the dish, and it will stay there till I lift my foot of the gas pedal. With your best estimate, is this a bad tps sensor, or it’s the transmission?
You likely have error codes that will point to the issue. It sounds like a transmission or wheel/ABS sensor issue. If you don't have a scan tool, automotive stores will often do scans for free.
Mister Toad's Wild Ride: My 2005 300c touching the gas pedal causes a wide open throttle (WOT) condition. As the car was accelerating i had both feet on the brakes and I was still accelerating. So I turned the key off. Then limped the car back home idling. Prior to that my alarm would randomly go off. My sun roof randomly opened while parked letting 3" of rain water into the car. On the 05 there is a ground wire attached to the back of each cylinder head. This is a ground point. That connecting ground wire between the 2 heads was fried. These ground points also have a wire that attaches to one end of an O2 sensor on each exhaust side. On the 06 model this wire connection between the 2 cylinder heads ground points had been removed. I have pulled and repaired the engine harness(what a pain that was). I have cleaned up multiple ground connection points throughout the car. I am not sure if I have fixed the original problem. I plan on testing the variable resistant throttle position sensor with an ohm meter. Not sure if there is any damage to the PMC. The C bus is the only thing that I found that was common to having problems with my WOT, random alarms, random opening of my sunroof, and perhaps the brakes not working as well as they should while flying down the rode.
Yes, it’s possible. If the TPS, crankshaft, and camshaft sensors share the same wiring or ground, a wiring issue could cause false codes for all of them. Check the shared wiring and connections for damage or corrosion.

The problem could be multiple things, such as a vacuum leak, misfire, bad injectors, low fuel pressure, or timing off. This is just a guess, but I would look for a vacuum leak, such as a hose that is loose on the intake. The fuel pressure can be checked at the fuel rail to be sure it is good. If the fuel pressure is good, I would pull the spark plugs one at a time and match them to a burn chart. Look for any cylinders that are not firing or running rich or lean. This will help point to bad injectors or bad spark.

I have a 98 2500 suburban with a 454. When my tps went bad it would run out the shift points. 1st-2nd wouldn't shift until 2900 RPM's. And similar 2nd to 3rd
Hoping somebody had this exact issue and knows the proper fix. 4L60E automatic. Tranny shift delays from 1st to 2nd, when at any temp. Will hang in 1st until 2,700 to 3,000 rpm, and shift softly when it eventually upshifts. I can also get it to up-shift by slightly easing up on fuel pedal, at about 2,400 to 2,700 rpms. It will downshift as it should when going up a hill at around 15/20mph, 2nd to 1st. Reverse and 1st always work good, cold or hot. 3rd & 4th work fine. Fluid is exactly Full and clean, when hot/level. No Check Engine Light or any other warnings or issues. Anyone have this same repair thing in your experience? Even if a different make transmission.
Thanks!
My car is sluggish untill 2500 2800 then boom like a rocket im off
Same with my truck ill drive until ill hit 15 then boom it just decreased my speed and acceleration and when i put my foot all the way down on the gas it wont do nothing then what you said boom it will kick back on and im flying like a rocket is that the tps or something else
Could be the tps or the fuel filter is clogged or fuel pump going out plug it in at a auto parts and see if you have a trouble code that way hopefully you can diagnose the problem
@@christopherwilson7698 mine was a clogged cat car caught fire
Mine is like that, drives like a 2 stroke trailbike. I tested my 4 wire tps, the 12v wire isn't working so gonna try a new tps. The 12v wire is on/off for the idle controller.
😂😂😂😂😂
How much should someone charge me to change this? I have a 2016 Passat SE and I'm sure this is what is happening
Change it yourself its 2 screws wtf
My silverado is throwing a tps sensor code but i checked voltage and ground and it all reads good??
I have a 2004 nissan 350z and the Machanic has told me that it won’t accelerate apparently it was the fuse box because the car wouldn’t turn on. I but I would appreciate if you can get back with me asap cuz these mechanics don’t know what they’re doing
What is a code p0123 09 Ford explorer
Can I get a answer
don't start the car to test the voltage of the tps. just have the key in the on position, with the engine off.
Thanks for making the video, and I hate to be critical, but you failed to adequately explain the test points for meter lead connections, using a volt meter with the TPS on the car while running, or with the TPS removed and tested with an ohm meter.
My car its slow to accelerate but I don’t have any codes
Tire Pressure Monitoring System 😂
Right he said that about 5 x and didn't realize, I thought I was the only one yelling 'stop saying tpms' at the video!🤣
My truck backfires like a 9mm while cranking it and stalls... sometimes cranks and runs fine like nothing ever happend
