This could be my favorite comment yet! Thank you so much for taking the time to share some encouraging words. My favorite thing is to go way back in time and study how they did things in like the '60s in documentaries or in the 80s in cult classics. See what worked back in the day and create an updated version of it today! The lingering slow push in (Stanley Kubrick) is a great example that I like to use sometimes. @@videoforentrepreneurs no problem! And I’m a numbers guy (I love math). Recently videos about UA-cam earnings from small channels have been popping up in my feed. I’ve clicked a few and some are showing that they earned a little over $1,000 in 11 days and others are showing they only earned $27 in a month! But the person with the 1 month analytics has way more views than the person with the 11 days analytics. I don’t know if you can break down how something like that can happen? Does it depend on what kind of content they’re posting? Viewer retention? Where the viewer is located? How long the video is? Etc. My only assumption is that some videos have the potential to get more kinds of ads than others. Like for example: I don’t expect a vegan channel to be getting Chick Fil A ads on it.
Thank you for such an encouraging comment. I am so glad there were some nuggets in there that you found helpful. Well shoot - that is a super humbling thing to read. Thank you for the kind words. What other video topics would you like to see us cover on the channel?
Great video! One thing that we also have to take in to consideration that not a lot of UA-camrs are acknowledging is the fact that we have been brainwashed into thinking that content is to be consumed in short form. I believe that this hinders longform video retention as well because people are so used to consumingcontent and less than a minute and a half. This has to have consequences to peoples attention spans and unfortunately is also a reason why I am posting a UA-cam short almost every day.
This is a great point to keep at the forefront of conversation. We are walking a line between quality and passion… and… playing the game for attention. What other video topics would you like to see us cover on the channel?
At first I thought wow, with 3.04M subs this guy obviously knows his stuff. Watching the video made me sure of that, you were obviously right about everything. You got me hooked, kept my attention throughout the WHOLE video, proved your points on the spot etc. Scripting and editing are superb. Do imagine my surprise at the end of the video when I realized it is 3.04K and not 3.04M videos. There has to be a catch, you are that good! I think what I liked the most tho is the way you speak, clearly, loud enough without all the uhms and whatevers, that you have mentioned. I wish I could talk like that. I want to start a channel where speaking would be a huge part of it (not ready to show my face nor is it necessary for the type of content I want to do) but English is not my native language and I do have an accent (not that strong tho). But the way I talk? Oh man. You would lose attention and fall asleep after half a minute max. And no, I do not want to make one of those "video for falling asleep" channels hahaha. Nor do I want to use AI. Ugh. That's a huge NO. I think I am decent enough at writing scripts, at least I do not mind writing huge blocks of text but it's far from being the same writing a comment or a post and a reading script. Have you made a more detailed video regarding scripting? How did you manage to make it look so flawless? Anyway, I have already watched this video 3 times and will watch it a couple more for sure, just to take it all in. Saved for future reference. Seriously man, awesome work. Going to check out more of your videos.
Well, heres to hoping you get to see us reach 3M 💪 I am humbled that you found yourself watching the whole video. I work tirelessly on making my video high quality, informative, entertaining, and professional. Thank you again for commenting, what other video topics would you like to see us cover on the channel in the future?
@@videoforentrepreneurs Obviously subscribed. Like I have mentioned I am interested in the script part. You look and sound better than 95% of all the content creators on UA-cam that I have seen. How do you achieve that? Are you reading off from a teleprompter of sorts? Because it is unnoticeable! Personally I do have an accent since English is not my native language and I was never really good at speaking let alone reading something aloud. I recorded myself reading a script I was going to write for my first video but man it sounds horrible. Extremely boring like a completely flat line if you catch my meaning. I don't want to hear myself speak, can't imagine others would either. Also I do not plan to record my face, just my voice and that should make it easier I guess since then people are not focused on your face, expressions, what you look like, are you reading from behind a screen etc.

I feel like part of my issue is instead of putting time into a good intro for my videos, I decided on trying to create one for each game I play, but eventually I'll figure it out
Great question! For live streams, where editing isn’t an option, retention is all about keeping viewers engaged in real time. Here are a few strategies that have worked well for me: Strong Start (The "Honey"): Hook your viewers right from the first few seconds. Let them know exactly what they’ll gain by sticking around, and deliver on that promise. Maintain Energy: Just like in pre-recorded videos, avoid winding down too early. Keep the energy up throughout the stream, and don’t signal the end until you're ready to finish. Interactive Engagement: Regularly engage with your audience through live comments, viewer contributions, and polls. Call out viewers by name, answer questions, and create moments of interaction to keep them involved and creates hope in viewers to be selected. Pattern Interrupts: Even without editing, you can incorporate pattern interrupts in real-time. Change the tone, bring in a surprise guest, switch locations, or introduce a visual aid (⬅ highly underrated). These small shifts can help re-capture attention. Valuable Content: Lastly, front-load value but also tease important insights coming up later to encourage people to stay until the end. Retention is all about engagement, so keeping things dynamic and interactive throughout the live stream is key!
Thank you so much for the encouraging words. Video really is something that needs to be refined over and over like finer and finer grit sandpaper. We never really arrive.

Just subscribed! I'm so glad I found your content. I'm working on keeping my viewers engaged, so this is super helpful. Thanks a lot! I'm definitely a work in progress :-)
I honestly think that not only the video content itself determines the retention, but title and thumbnail do as well. Your thumbnail/title could evoke some mystery or curiousity for example that viewers are being anticipating on something that lets them stick around, or get them hooked. You could then even have a "boring" or "silent" part which people dont leave because they know "something" might happen and that mystery part keeps them hooked. Just a theory!

My favorite thing is to go way back in time and study how they did things in like the '60s in documentaries or in the 80s in cult classics.
See what worked back in the day and create an updated version of it today! The lingering slow push in (Stanley Kubrick) is a great example that I like to use sometimes. People don't expect filmmaking techniques now days, they expect fast cuts and swooshing transitions. Interrupt the patterns that they are used to!

What other video topics would you like to see us cover on the channel?
Great video! Unlike a lot of these how to / algorithm videos, this one had some new and helpful advice. 🎉

I like it here, you explain things very well. I've subscribed!

What other video topics would you like to see us cover on the channel?
Great video just when I need it!! Congrats🎉. Quick question. How to increase retention without editing (example a livestream)?
Great question!
For live streams, where editing isn’t an option, retention is all about keeping viewers engaged in real time. Here are a few strategies that have worked well for me:
Strong Start (The "Honey"): Hook your viewers right from the first few seconds.
Great work!
