    Thanks, this was indeed a question in the back of my mind. These are the little tweaks and tricks that make sense to just living. Even why it's not a great idea, but knowing it is ok. Kind of like running a furnace off your car 😜

      Exactly, knowing why it won't work is just as important as knowing how it might

    Hey good work buddy because what you are covering is excellent. I have a question for you. I have a BLUETTI AC2A from its Solar input has an MPPT controller and will accept 12 to 28 volt DC at a max of 8.2A. A car alternator puts out out a lot of amperage when running in that volt range. So rather than charge from the car cigarette lighter, why can you not simply connect it directly to the car battery and run the car to achieve the maximum charge rate of 200watts?

      You could. Best to wire appropriately and fuse and even better to use a DC charger, but sure, it could be done

    They could have stepped the Mppt Charge Controller a bit Higher / Stronger than 100 Watts - IMHO
    Again Good Video and Info Jarhead 🙌

    Hello my friend nice and Smart battery unit certainly comes with all the added bells and whistles and overall a simplistic great idea !!
    Just wish there was a way to get say 50% faster recharging cycles out of the required 100 watt solar panels
    that is to mean safely as of course as well without creating stresses or damage to the battery ?
    Well I guess this might be wishful thinking on my part but where is Nikola Tesla When We Need Him The Most !! lol
    Thank For Another great informative video and now I'm off to see you at you're Cabin lol see you all when I get There LOL

      You can charge it fast with a separate charge controller and panel though I do wish they set this one at 400 or even 300 would so 😉
      I'll start the coffee! ☕️☕️

    I have a few units but they are DIY of varying sizes and portable. However, 1 unit is designated to charging L/A Batteries, Deep Cycle and/or car/truck, even the smaller ones used for computer backup systems(like Power Wheels). It's just a HF 100 watt 4 panel kit with the ability to add 3 more kits, making it 400 watts total for maximum charging. Base batteries are Deep Cycle with a jumper leading to three external charging posts/ports on the unit. I've connected 3 separate batteries at once, none able to turn over a 4 cylinder, and 24 hours later are charged enough(using 400w) to start at least a 6 cylinder. I have another car battery unit, but it's wind powered and built from a bicycle and a treadmill. It's good for the bigger batteries for trucks and tractors, proven reliable to at least -10F. It, too, can charge 3 at once. It has 2 extra ports, one for 6v and the other for 24v. It's really fun to watch it in action, just don't stare at it for too long....it'll HYPNOTIZE you. LOL Crude methods, but they work. At least for ME they do. 👍

      @@TheOldJarhead I might also add, both have USB ports on the Charge Controllers. My units, each build is unique. I use them to power the Greenhouse, chicken coop, shed, outdoor lighting, Glamping....all sorts of things. And when the storms roll through and knock the power out, they ALL get put to use.

      Any 48v LiFePo4 would be best, even two in series

    A lowest amp alternator I can think of is about 85A with a regulated output of around 13.5v to 15.5v. At the low end an alternator can output over 1100W. Now most power stations can only accept 10A to 15A. So realistically you could only get about 135W to 200W of power from your vehicle.

    • @TheOldJarhead
      @TheOldJarhead  День тому +2

      Yes unless you use a DC charger.

    A 300w inverter to the 12v plug and plugging the AC Battery charger can give extra power. Inefficient, inexpensive and in case of an in emergency. Let say you spend the day at work. Throw the solar panel in the roof and let it charge. Don’t forget to lock the panel with a bicycle lock.

    Why do you think power station manufacturers have a 12volt low threshold. It won’t accept a charge below 12volts preventing you from killing your 12volt “dumb” battery.

    • @TheOldJarhead
      @TheOldJarhead  День тому

      I don't think that's why they do it, but it certainly helps. It's an MPPT solar charge controller port and they have to convert the voltage to charge battery (most are 24v or 48v now) but most small panels are 20v panels which often drop to 12v +/-
