Thanks for taking the time to go off the beaten path a little bit and review these games that might not get a million views ACG, a lot of us find these much more interesting than the blockbuster GOTY bait. Similar situation here. My desktop includes 25+ games that I have yet to play. Some classics, because we all know the late 90s was the golden era of games, and mostly remakes like system shock 1. As well as Witcher 3 and all the new Doom games since Doom 2 up until Eternal.. I just prefer the classics I guess, games these days which focus on online and multiplayer have no interest to me. Good thing seeing my backlist.

I love the Outcast games, warts and all. Despite the jank and bugs, despite everything that annoys me about them, I love them. Part of that is nostalgia for the first game and how it made me feel when I played it all those years ago, but its more than just nostalgia, I just like them. They are so oddly their own thing. I get why people bounce off them, but its one of those things that just seems to be my kryptonite. I had so much fun with the demo, it played really well, has a fun weapon upgrade system, loved the quests - the glossary, the dialogues reminded me of my typical loved euro jank. I'm definitely picking this up, but I also see myself definitely playing this during some kind of gaming drought, as I don't see myself clearing out enemy bases full of robots, or clearing out nests all the time. Also, really liked the exploration - tried climbing the huge mountain in the demo, saw a dude sitting a top of it and then I jumped off it. A darling of a program only let down by unfortunate timing and an inability to "Windows". Vista was named aptly, as most of the time you were waiting for it to do something, and spend that time looking out the window.
I am playing the demo right now. So far it reminds me of Elex with more fluid movement. And the scenery reminds me of a more tropical AC Origins. I keep going up to high points just to look around at the world. I will probably buy it when it goes on sale.
That glossary is really cool and I don't know why this isn't a standard for RPGs. I was recently playing some CRPGs where people just kept dropping half a dozen NPC names in every dialogue. Sure, I've come across those names before but I have 15 parallel quests. How am I supposed to remember who Q'sasel or Ja'Lane were?
Yeah, so glad they nailed this. Got my copy from Best Buy coming in today. Happy to support the dev in this so they hopefully invest in more titles like this.
So pleased you covered this one mate. I played the original back in the day on a mates PC. I gained interest in this new version when I caught some footage last year. I grabbed the demo weeks back on PC and was pleasantly surprised. The world looked brilliant and bursting with life and colour, there was an old school humour to the voice over of the main character...it's not trying to be a super serious Hollywood bs script. The combat felt good and the flying/jet pack stuff was a neat way to get about.. The scale of the world though sold me so I pre ordered at a nice price of £26. I like to support AA studios as I find there is more concentration on gameplay and fun and I feel these games generally feel like they are made by gamers and not corporate brain deads who turn out what they are told by bosses with heads up their own arse. Games like Outcast are a bit of a dying breed and it's a shame. Hopefully I can grab some time on this over the weekend. Cheers for the video and your thoughts.
I played the Second Contact version : it was good ! I had lots of fun playing that adventure. I took my time for about 23 hours and achieved 97% Main story and about 67% "Sub-missions" (sic). I was going for 100% but accidentally triggered the ending sequence.
It looks very nice. I was impressed when the first game came out but never finished it because it was kind of tedious and repetitive. I did like the idea of it and the world was unique and interesting. I wished that it was more of an rpg adventure game than shooter. I even bought one of the other remakes, but I never got around to playing it for the same reason.
Man! Everything about this game hits 100% of the right spots for me. I'd play it, if only to experience the soundtrack. And that's a first for me, for any game. For some reason, I get very strong Advent Rising vibes from this title; another game that wasn't all that well received, but that I couldn't get enough of.
Reminds me of an updated Shadows of the Empire type of game. Lots of good ideas here, just missed opportunities in how they were implemented. Makes me sad Star Wars 1313 was cancelled.
Bad release timing or I would've probably picked it up at launch. Still finishing up Rebirth before Dragon's Dogma 2 and Rise of the Ronin. Something to play during the slow summer months.
Played the demo. Weapon mods feel crisply done and clearly do what they say and combat feels gooood. But like, gooooooood. Some Bungie-esque depth to gunplay.
I heard the GameStar staff are big fans of the original and they expressed major concerns last time they played the remake in a preview feature. It seems like the developers didn't understand what made the original so special in the first place and failed to capture its spirit, essentially leaving the remake with a lot of stuff that has been done better already by other games and nothing to make it stand out these days. Outcast always has been a niche franchise and there seems to be no buzz around the remake. Karak may like it but I fear the remake doesn't do enough to end up being successful.

I played the Second Contact version : it was good ! I had lots of fun playing that adventure.
I took my time for about 23 hours and achieved 97% Main story and about 67% "Sub-missions" (sic). I was going for 100% but accidentally triggered the ending sequence.
Jeez we're eating too good lately that any other year i would have snapped this up. On the wishlist
Never heard of this franchise until now. I'll wait a while for a few patches to get in there before looking at it again.
I'm most reminded of both Jumani and French Myst-like pc games turned into an open-world science fiction novel like Dune.
Thank you for the review
Any time
Man! Everything about this game hits 100% of the right spots for me. I'd play it, if only to experience the soundtrack. And that's a first for me, for any game. For some reason, I get very strong Advent Rising vibes from this title; another game that wasn't all that well received, but that I couldn't get enough of.
as always, thanks for the review
Any time
This video was rereleased like the original outcast 😅
Explain?
The review was temporarily delisted, I don't know the reasons@@Blank55600
@@Blank55600 The original upload a few hours ago had overly loud background noise for about half the video.
4:00 cant remember the first game k recently played that had a similar system
Loved it
If this got a remake, then maybe there's hope for new versions of Dark Void and/or Psi-Ops!
I'm getting big "Just Cause 2 or 3" vibes from this game. Would that be an accurate assumption?
I loved it from beginning to end. Got a real old school charm and feel I really dug
It will definitely be one I eventually try out. Looks like a classic, simple fun game.
Simple? Not sure what you were watching, a linear FPS this is not. But classic style and fun yeah it does look like that
@@cenciende9401 I meant more just like a classic video game that doesn't include overly complex systems.
Im so ready for tomorrows release of this game :) Its going to be fun time
Enjoy!
Reminds me of an updated Shadows of the Empire type of game. Lots of good ideas here, just missed opportunities in how they were implemented. Makes me sad Star Wars 1313 was cancelled.
i love the vibe of this game will try it out later
How is the traversal stutter and the shader compilation stutter? It was awful in the demo. As was the pop-in.
Yep covered all those in the video
Bad release timing or I would've probably picked it up at launch. Still finishing up Rebirth before Dragon's Dogma 2 and Rise of the Ronin. Something to play during the slow summer months.
Played the demo. Weapon mods feel crisply done and clearly do what they say and combat feels gooood. But like, gooooooood. Some Bungie-esque depth to gunplay.
How come the background sound is drowning out your talking?
Just kidding, you fixed it.
I played the hell out of the original but didn't bother with any of do overs, I will definitely give this one a spin though, just for old times sake
Its crazy how many there are
Please be good please be good please be good please be good
I've been playing it.
It's grindy, but I just keep going back to it.
