I have a number of Vulcan lighters in my collection, along with Penguin. In my experience so far, both of those branded lighters are Japan made and are virtual copies of Zippo lighters in all dimensions and have had no problems swapping inserts back and forth between them. I'd be hard pressed to tell them apart by feel if I couldn't see them. A lot of clones, especially the no-name Korean clones, have this slight bulge to them that make their inserts ever so slightly off. Basically if I stare at the canning on the bottom, a standard Zippo, Vulcan, or Penguin have very straight "sides" to them, while some of the off brand clones you can start seeing that the sides are bowed outwards a touch. I'd probably just get him to try a standard Zippo insert, there's a very real chance it'll work correctly. I don't recall seeing any Vulcan or Penguin lighters that are Zippo clones that aren't close enough in case dimensions.
I’ve just started my own lighter collection recently. Started with a “vintage” zippo with slashes. Just ordered a 1935 zippo. Have two Ronson whirlwinds too. One I found at a yard sale & one at an estate sale. Any advice on a new collector?
@@klonklone7787, ya just keep doing what you’re doing! Sounds like me, you never know where you may find one, you may hardly ever see them but can find them practically anywhere. I’ve been keen to try a ‘35 myself, just waiting for the right one at the right price. Glad to have you along for the ride my friend.✌️
