    Gotta love install videos that don't show the install. People LOVE the sound of their own voice

    I did what you guys said about the wiring but my car wont start. Even the wiring for my reverse light dont work. Anything I could do to make this car start. I decided not to go with pressing the clutch to start the car if that helps any

      Sorry to hear that. I had heard that the wire colors changed in later e36's. what year is yours? I think the connections will still be wire 5 to wire 7 regardless of color. Here are a few things to check: Did you remove the intake manifold to fish your hard line? Were the fuel hoses reconnected correctly? did you remove the fuel pump relay at any time? Hope that helps. Keep us updated.

      I'm sorry you're not looking forward to the swap. You guys are fortunate
      to have the awesome e36 m3's (even the smg ones). I don't think I'll
      ever see one in person. For your first question, on our second video we
      covered most of the connectors to remove the automatic. 1 - the shift
      connector (has a red cover, this disengages the shifter from the
      transmission, 2- disconnnect the wiring harness (round connector) 3 -
      cut the oil cooler lines (2 of them) 4 - release the torque converter
      bolts from the access panel (please check the video for this location) 5
      - all the bolts transmission bolts. 6 - take transmission down.
      The neutral safety switch is also covered, but here's a link to a
      picture of the connection done:

      Good luck!

    hello great works really helpfull for me , lets still have question about where is reverse switch (wire) i have zf transmission on e36 323i an there is no other wire then the round conector to transmision

    • @TheBuildBros
      @TheBuildBros  7 років тому +2

      +VW Passat hmm. On the harness connected to the automatic transmission, there's should have been 2 connectors. The round one and the 2 plug clip on one. Do you still have the original auto transmission? It's easier to look at the connector and then backtrack to see where the connector went. If the connector was somehow cut off, here are some links for a new connector and terminals.

    My biggest issue I'm having... How exactly does the hardline run?? And how did it get out up into the hole for the master cylinder.. Lol it's evading me all the way

    • @TheBuildBros
      @TheBuildBros  6 років тому

      I hadn't seen your message, but I hope you were able to get it. I completely understand where you were at. I actually gave up after a day of trying and my brother came in the next morning and did it himself by going from the bottom and routing it up to the master cylinder. Im still salty over that (and that's why I don't have video of it) I was not in the right mindset to record during this time.

    What color are the wire for the clutch switches

  • @bptrader1809

    When you connect pin 5 and 7 together does your brake light stay on

    • @TheBuildBros
      @TheBuildBros  7 років тому

      Aenoy Phommathep sorry for the slow reply. Connecting 5 and 7 simulate the car being shifted into "park" thus allowing the car to turn on. The actual brake lights are controlled through the brake switch attached to the pedal. If the brake lights stay on you may need to adjust or replace the brake light switch. Hope that helps.

    im in the process with my 93" 325i auto to manuel but i ran into a harnessroadblock. i swapped an auto m50 vanos and trans to a non vanos m50 manuel trans the swap is complete but the car wont start.....any ideas of what im doing wrong if anyone can give me the right advice its you guys

    • @TheBuildBros
      @TheBuildBros  7 років тому

      Hey Robert thanks for reaching out to us. We're not exactly vanos experts.. yet, but we've done a lot of research. First let me restate what I think you're doing to make sure we're on the same page. I think what you're trying to do is add Vanos to a non-vanos m50 (1992) as well as do a 5 speed conversion. and you are using a donor vanos from a 1993 325i.
      If that is correct then the good thing is that there should be no issues regarding ews, so you've got that going for you. You should be using the 1993 ECU as well since its programed for Vanos timings. Did you also swap the cams and trays? the non-vanos cams and trays are different than the vanos ones. if there's absolutely no crank then you may be looking at the neutral safety switch wiring again.
      I would examine the 1993 wiring loom as well in case that is different.
      I hope that helps at least a bit or at least it triggers something that helps you get to the bottom of it.

      wow hey thanks for your valued input im highly greatful but let me specify exactly whats going on here i bartered the car with the engine and trans already professionaly swapped but that was all that was done. it was installed with the m50 and 5 speed from another donor in witch was already a 5 speed manuel. but the m50 was origionally a non vanos and i did not own it when it was swapped. so with that being said im not adding a vanos i only installed the loom for the non vanos in the 93 vanos donor shell. ive done all my own research but failed to find any articles that explain this project thats about to become a disaster. fortunAtly i had a conversation with a bmw mechanic i met bye the graces of the e36 gods in a line at my local hardware store and pointed out that the 92 m50 non vanos will have one 20 pin connector compared to the 93 vanos has two. so im missing basiclly what the most impoortant thing that powers the ecu to run the vehicle doesnt exist. he turned a light bulb on in my head and i thought to myself a jumper harness is in order. my question if u know what im doing "will it work and how would i safly put my wire splices to work together?" if thats not correct do u know what i should turn my focus too

    • @TheBuildBros
      @TheBuildBros  7 років тому

      Robert McCollum not sure about the splicing... Then again I've been trying to find my Bentley wiring diagrams to see if there's a difference in the wiring loom but I haven't found them yet. If I do I'll see if I can send you a copy. It's the least I can do (I'd you don't already have the Bentley manual). Are there any junkyards near you that may provide you with the entire loom. I would seek out a new loom instead of trying to modify the non vanos one. Good luck. Please let us know if you make progress. We always want to learn more about any e36 projects.
