I absolutely wish every other company did the free pdf code in print books.

me too.... I love books for reading and getting to know the system, but prepping games I have like 4 PDFs open at once and it's great!

The only other company I know of that does it is Chaosium. If you buy a book from their website, you also get the PDF. Not sure if that's on 100% of their product, but I know it's on most of it.

@@matthewconstantine5015 - Pretty sure Dakota was referring to the DTRPG codes, for a free PDF of same, included on the inside of the printed DCC books. More should definitely do so.

Plenty of other smaller rpg companies do it, some, such as frog god games include their full rulebook for free in pdf form without having to buy the physical copy.

The Virgin Pact Magic vs the Chad Patron Spells. I can't overstate how much i appreciate coverage of DCC as it is my favorite RPG and it can be hard to get people into games that arent the mainstream darlings (5e, Pathfinder, CoC to a lesser extent unless your outside the U.S. where it seems MUCH more popular)

Something I’ve considered stealing from another RPG for 5e warlocks is spectrums from City of Mist. One kind of spectrum is the timer and it can tick down for whatever reason the gm sees fit. Choose a number from 1-5 based on the temperament of the patron and for each spell cast or each action against the patron (whatever reason the gm and/ or player chooses) a tick will be marked. Once the ticks equal the number chosen earlier, they take action for or against the warlock.

If you're playing a cleric, the Annual is essential. Fire example, a cleric of Justicia gets AC and movement bonus, plus mighty deeds (minus some bonuses the warrior gets).
The only disappointment to me was that all deities from the core rulebook didn't get expanded options.

Definitely agree with your 5E Warlock and patrons comment! 5e, and PF2E too in many ways, give little to no info to help on the patrons or gods anyway. Maybe a "DM" misstep, but the system is kinda player character catering or handholding in many ways too (Pathfinder 2e is the same but on steroids). If that's a players or tables thing though, no biggie, just don't beat yourself up too bad on it. Great video and thnx for sharing! 👍

Currently have a patron attached in some form to everybody in my campaign. The PCs TRY to work together, but then they each carry around secondary objectives from their Patrons...objectives that frequently undermine the group objectives. :)

Not your fault, Warlocks do not have the right amount of support in my opinion and puts a LOT on the DM and player and requires you to add stuff from outside the books.
I LOVE the class but I do not think it should have been a class but more of a subclass or some kind of feat chain.
    Love the video

hey J. coming back to this video because I'm starting to play Old School essentials and really comparing which I like better.. DCC has all the flavor and details but OSE has the more board game feel for dungeoneering that I like.. tough call. Which is your favorite?

    • @JocularJunction
      @JocularJunction  Рік тому

I like them both for different reasons. If I have creative players who really dive into mighty deeds and spellburning I like DCC. For new people sometimes OSE is better. The times I've played OSE though I do ascending armor class. I'd play a character in either game, maybe depends on the adventure?

You are not wrong about Warlock in D&D and that's because there aren't actual mechanical downsides to being a Warlock or disobeying your patron. It's all on the DM to do anything like that... Which as a DM you are juggling a lot of other things so creating a whole system for that is a big ask.
What would make Warlocks more interesting would be actual mechanical stuff being in the books... Stuff like your patron messing around with you maybe even stripping you of power if you do things it doesn't like or if you don't do it favors when it asks...

Gosh I wish this was your main channel. These videos about DCC and the OSR stuff are much cooler then the lore ones. But I know 5e and its lore just attracts more audience and people just want more of that than this.

I like DCC. Where it falls down for me as a DM is way too many tables and way too many "funky" dice.
