    I introduced my wife to DCC as a lvl 5 Elf with her group of Lvl Zeros to deal with a dragon enhanced by a corrupt artifact. Along the way, she was reduced to ONE HP after getting waylaid by a minotaur. Only a solid hit from a militia man saved her from a PC death. She loved the danger!

    I was surprised you separated funnel and leveled play, as I thought the design was for one to lead into the other, and the funnel to inform what would otherwise be the backstory for the characters. Still, very nice review, and I love the tone and gonzo madness of DCC.
    For a very lightweight VTT, you may want to check out the Runehammer VTT, which you can access for free through a Patreon account. It has no bells and whistles, but if you're tracking initiative on paper, it might be just right.

      I'm new to all this, and also new to "RPG" in general... in my case I've been very impressed by this new videogame called Dark & Darker, watch videos of it, it's awesome... it's an online game where a party of 3 players support each other inside of a dungeon, heavy focus on combat and tactical play... would you say that this game would be a nice visual representation of how a tabletop experience goes?

    Recently discovered DCC as I was looking for something to run as a bit more relaxed to my regular games. I use FGU, and yea the support is terrific. I decided to convert the Lost Mine of Phandelver as my game with the beginning as my funnel. It worked just as I had hoped. I went for LMoP because it was really hard to get players for a game most had never heard of, but as soon as they see LMoP the interest soon peaked.
    Overall, I love the more laid back hack and slash without too much roleplaying that the system really leans into.

      @wasabiburger3047  2 роки тому

      Haha, I'll be honest, I haven't watched this video since I uploaded it a year ago, could you be more specific about what you mean?
      In case you're just asking what I did to run Planescape, I grabbed a bunch of the Planescape books from DrivethruRPG and I just used the books mostly for lore and converted everything else to DCC. So I made my own statblocks for stuff I needed and basically didn't use any of the original mechanics and just ran it as a DCC campaign. It was a very loosy goosy game.
      The most I did prep wise for Foundry was just grab maps I found online and upload them to my server. None of the battle maps I used were for Planescape originally, I just slotted them in as I needed them to represent certain things. Let me know if that answers your question at all, and if not, I'll be happy to clarify :)

    Can you take Scarlet Heroes' solo rules and mix it with DCC? This one seems fun, but would need some help for solo play

    • @wasabiburger3047
      @wasabiburger3047  Рік тому

      I'll be honest, I've never played Scarlet Heroes, though I am vaguely familiar with it as I have had a number of people recommend it to me. This is more spitballing than an educated answer, but I have run a decent amount of solo content in DCC. It would definitely be experimental, but I think it should overall work. Whenever it comes to these kinds of conversions/mixes, there is no one right answer but might take some calibration in play.
      My advice would mostly be:
      1) Be aware of action economy, in a turn based game, especially with solo play, number of enemies is something you have to be aware of and even more so in DCC because with the crit tables and spell rolls, shit can get out of hand *really* quickly.
      2) I often give my solo players a decent amount of healing, whether that's scrolls, potions, a minor healer NPC (or whatever fits what you're doing). That way you can calibrate an experiment like this and if you gave them too much, just ramp up the difficulty and those resources will drain naturally and if you gave them too little, you can pull back a bit and still let them recover and through that you can find your balance.
      Sorry for the wall of text and I don't know if that was helpful at all lol. But if you have further questions, I'd be happy to help :)

    • @duggygee6387
      @duggygee6387 Рік тому

      Mixing both DCC and Scarlet Heroes to create a solo play sounds like a great idea. For those not familiar with SH, it is its own OSR RPG, but is also a tool kit to convert your favorite RPG to be played by a single hero and has good rules for solo play. I would probably use SH method of rolling stats and damage conversion. I would use the hit dice of the DCC classes as their "Fray Die". I would use DCC's spells, deeds, fumble/critical tables, AC and DC, etc (everything that makes DCC special). It would likely be a deadlier game than converting most other OSR systems, but it would be very satisfying.

    I wish there was recordings (audio or video) of people playing D&D sessions back in the 80's or early 90's, to see how their games differed from recent ones. One thing I noticed in this D&D thing (but I don't know if this is a recent thing or noit) is that most D&D players nowadays (at least the ones on youtube and other video sites) seem to have this focus on being "funny" or being "social". Is this recent or was D&D always like this? It rubs me the wrong way because it distracts from the action, from battle, when people spend more than 4 hours at the starting tavern, instead of "seeking adventure" (isn't that what D&D should be all about???)

    • @FeelingShred
      @FeelingShred Рік тому

      So please tell me: am I the wrong one here? Am I unfit for D&D games for not being "social" enough? (please be blunt, no sugar coating, I can handle it) How are D&D players like me known as? Is there place for D&D players like me that prefer to focus on Battle and Tactical Action, and less on chit-chat and socializing on taverns? I also noticed over the years that I have the tendency of creating Priest/Cleric characters, they seem to be my favorite kind of play.

    • @FeelingShred

      @@FeelingShred I think what you're talking about is the pop culture, mainline meme D&D kind of playing. I mean truth be told, I am a very jokey person and I do believe that D&D has always been about having fun with friends regardless of era and that means a certain level of humor.
      However, there's making jokes with your friends and then what I think you're talking about is more the people who think the meme culture around D&D *is* D&D. And I think that's also just a group-to-group thing, because I think as much as the mainline D&D crowd deserve a lot of the flak they get, they aren't all like that.
      If you want to play games with people who take it more seriously, I do recommend going into the OSR sphere or just games that are not D&D 5e (Or One D&D at the time of this comment I guess) as you'll find people who are hobbyists, not just people too scared to take it seriously and are joining the latest fad.
      But also, I don't know you, so maybe you do want the dourest most hardcore RP where nobody breaks character and everything is super serious. You can still find that because now more than ever, every playstyle is played somewhere on the internet and it's never been easier to find a group for you if you put the work in!

    I like DCC but it brought something from old d&d that I never liked, race classes and lack of character freedom, Dwarves can't cast spells, Elves can't be pure fighters, you rolled in order and now you can't have fun with magic cause your rolls suck
    outside of that, it has a great vibe but idk if I'll be able to bring myself to play it as I like writing characters, maybe I'm just a nark lol

    • @wasabiburger3047
      @wasabiburger3047  2 роки тому +3

      No, I think that's a completely valid opinion. I used to follow the book but as I played it more, depending on the vibe, I usually go for DCC Lankhmar anyway which is human only but after running Planescape in DCC and a few other things I just started going "pick whichever class you want and you're welcome to be a different race".
      So you can be a dwarf with a wizard statblock or an elf with a thief statblock and it's just made the game more accessible for me, especially since adding 3rd party classes to mix up the game. :)
