What an awesome piece of machinery that is. When manufacturers took pride in their work and things lasted forever. I love going to our local steam show and seeing old running machinery thats been around for 100 plus years. Thanks for walking us through this.

How many 16inch plow bottoms in medium soil 10 inches deep will the G do? My 37 A will 2 16's in first low range. So fun!

Had a 1948 styled with big fenders. Had to hand start a few times. Took the steering wheel off and put a lug in that matched the flywheel center to crank counter clockwise. Takes some mussel but got the job done. Great old tractors. H.

I remember being at my grandfather's farm as a kid in the '60s watching him hand start his John Deere G's. I was always impressed that he could hand start these tractors. My daddy had one of these old John Deer tractors. It’s the first tractor that I learned to start and drive on our farm. I just didn’t know what year the old tractor was. Your tractor is a perfectly identical to the one that I had to crank up I haven’t forgotten about those pet cocks to open up on both sides of the tracker to help relieve the compression so that it wouldn’t be so hard to crank it flywheel up by hand. 😎
May the lord bless you and your family too!
Also remember that you should never wear long lose clothes when you are cranking the flywheel on your tractor 🚜 always try to be safe.

No sir you are not correct the unstyled A ended in 38 but they continued to produce the G unstyled until 1942 they only made 600 serial numbers roughly that year due to the start of WWII they then changed to the GM and started the styled version after that. This tractor is in the last 600 produced before the switch.
