I'm a single mother of an autistic child and your strength, Sylvia, has just amplified mine 100 fold. What a beautiful story! What strength you have! God bless you and the boys ❤
I had right mesial temporal sclerosis. I really relate to Sylvia's story. Ooh that part of getting into accidents when a seizure struck, hospitals and all the medications 😢 I was born a premmie with lots of complications. The sclerosis came later. I was abit grown up, I remember the seizures and my parents' denial. They couldn't believe that after everything that had happened to me as a baby, then just when I got better and was doing well in school the seizures started. I stabilized after a few years and eventually my brain recovered. Now, I am a grown woman. I am seizure free, my brain looks like any other brain on an MRI. God is good.
Ooh Lord. God the creator,... Sylivia you are a strong woman. May God continue showing Himself through you in ways He only knows. I have just learnt to be grateful for everything in my life. I know God is in this story...
I had to pause and comment when your son was singing twinkle twinkle little star. I'm so happy you'd think I know you personally. This gives me such joy, I can only imagine your happiness with his progress. Hebu let me go back to watching.
Thank you for this interview! As a mama with a special needs kido I can relate. You are such a strong mama. Thank you for sharing your story, you are not alone.
Kambua, thank you for bringing Dr Sylvia. This was really eye opening and learning how we can extend grace to children living with autism and how we can be of support to their parents. I've learnt a lot. Thank you so much
We need Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)programs/therapy catered to Kenyans. This profession is thriving here in the US. Insurance are paying for the therapy. I am an RBT. I implement the programs. Its hard work but one can see it working. ABA also caters for adhd, problem behaviors, autistic individuals even one with down syndrome.
The crown, it fits so well, am a teacher in the UAE and I have experienced special needs children in my class, I hope that at home they can sensitise on how to incorporate ways to include the special needs children in the school system, there are many ways of differentiating the curriculum and the assessment and also class activities in order for them to fit in 'normal class' every teacher needs to be able to handle a special needs child there shouldn't be an exception. Teacher Sally should be in each and every class. This side Dakari you have done well, and its not easy but its possible and this children I cannot emphasise how they are such a blessing and such a ball of energy and they bring sunshine in my class and all over. Thank you kambua for also bringing this conversation forward. Blessings , love and light
