- Described as the Godfathers of psychedelic trance, Infected Mushroom have built a vast international audience over the last 20 years with a sound that fuses metal, folk and electronic genres. We head to LA to catch up with Erez and Duvdev, the performer/producers behind Infected Mushroom and plug-in company Polyverse.
Here they show us a track breakdown of the constantly morphing track 'Flamingo', the opener from their 2017 album Return To The Sauce. Infected Mushroom make use of their Polyverse Manipulator and I Wish plug-ins, and show us some of the production techniques used to create the wild sounds found in their music.

Infected Mushroom are lightyears beyond their time. It's timeless, hundreds of years from now people will revere this like we do Mozart and Beethoven today. I love it, incredible.
They really aren't beyond anything. Poppy dance music is as mainstream as it gets.

IM are not really at the top of anything out side of selling out.
their early days so mid to late 90's stuff was spectacular for the time.. & then it was rinse & repeat until they did a thing with the Computer Music mag in the early 2k & that was the end.. it was all about the cash.. the albums that followed were to reach the none psy crowd & push psy to the mainstream which did nothing but dilute the genre. & yeah... well its now commercial.
they moved from psy to commercial.. thats just fact

Duv and Erez barking at each other in the studio made my day.
There's something so wonderfully dry wit about turning to your friend, who looks so soft and gentle, telling him "I might cry!" and he says, deadpan, without pause, "You should." And you just know he means it. Love it haha!
The track "Heavyweight" has to be one of the most beautiful pieces of musical work I've ever heard in my Life.

Say what you will about Infected, but these guys are musical geniuses in the strictest sense of the word. I don't particularly like a lot of stuff they've made after 2007, but from a sound design perspective I still enjoy their music. Always pushing the limit. It is obvious that they wanted to take their music in a more commercial direction, but that's okay.

I totally agree. While I dislike their newer stuff, especially their meddling in dubstep and the likes (ugh), The Gathering blew my mind, got me into trance production and is still one of the best albums I've heard. Absolute geniuses of their day and age and music genre.
The Gathering is so fucking sick. Its so important album in my opinion. Ive lost my interest in IM after Legend of the Black Shawarma.
What limit are they pushing? It's just pointless unimaginative wankery.
Their psytrance tracks are my fav, but even their pop music is really good and I don't mind them experimenting with different genres.

Erez is what Chris Lowe of the Pet Shop Boys was in the 80s...a true genius of his time. I had the pleasure of communicating with Erez via Ebay.

i dont think they're so much pushing their plugin line, so much as they've basically condensed so many of their favorite techniques into a few plugins that they really cant say much else. they're open and seemingly honest about their interests and inspirations, as well as other plugs they're using a lot etc.
I mean the plugins are clearly freakin great so yeah they should be pushing it. Why would they not advertise the thing they literally use to make their songs?
They totally pioneered a lot of these techniques, i remember back in the day they used to do so much of this stuff by hand, smart of them to build their own plugins to save them time.
Return to the Sauce is an EPIC EP. Infected got me interested in making EDM way back in the day! All bow to Erez and Duvdev!
Fresh minds, and their plugins are on the top of my wishlist right now. excellent

I'm not a fan of their music, but it was cool to get an inside look into their way of producing tracks.
It's dope, even that i'm not a psytrance fan I like the IM's stuff, their sounds are unmistakable regardless of the genre they produce at the moment

For purists of psytrance, I can understand your frustration with this title. The video is more an advertisement for their plug-ins and their new single. However IM has a brilliant sound that reminds me of The Prodigy (sans 1500 samples) when it comes to their unique productions.
I thought the new album sounded like an advertisement for their plug-ins... It was just to overused. Listener fatigue came on very quickly for me.

Oh I'm so happy, I didn't know they produce their own vst's, wow, these products are available to buy, Manipulator is amazing. These guys are brilliant, I'm in the making of my first PsyTrance album, and feel like I must have Manipulator to use it on more than one occasion.

these guys seem pretty cool. i never heard their music before really, and i'm not keen on trance, and very, very little of Psytrance vaguely impresses me. but their concept of metal with trance seems pretty original and fun. :)

Shoutout to their other plugin they don't mention, Pusher. Amazing quick idiot-proof eq, compression, drive, etc. so cheap and so easy and so good. Don't think it's polyverse though.

Ah. My kick is always blue and the bass is always purple. Green hi hats and ye just everything else being a random chaotic mess.
Usually only around 70 - 80 mixer tracks, but sampler channels are blowing up over 100 with automation recently.
Gonna have to start using reference tracks more because my ability to test on different systems is very limited.
