In the end the mighty R-73 is just another IR missile fooled by flare and cuting afterburner like any other, just got some crazy turn rate, but will go for flares if the pilot knows what he is doing

Hey as someone who doesn't have top tier unlocked and just watches videos, what's the difference between all the various russian missiles like R27ER, R73 etc, along with the khinzals?

@humzaakhtar9208 R27ER is a semi active radar guided missile (SARH) which uses the radar lock from the aircraft to guide to the target.
The R73 is an Infrared missile (IR) which uses the thermal signature of the enemy plane and guides to it.
The Khinzal on the other hand is a hypesonic missile to be used on ground targets not air ones.
You are doing some wild shit with the 29Ts....mine lose track alot of the time if i dont stay pointed at the target atleast until the rocket motor burns out

I feel like this would be a solid 10.7 or 11.0 strike aircraft, but the R-73 is the main reason for it being 11.3. Maybe Gaijin can make a Su-25 variant in the future like the BM, minus the R-73. Maybe the UTG or UBM models.
R-73 is slightly better than 9l, which sits at 10.0, while Su-25 itself sucks in maneuvering and distance of comfort fire

But Su-25T is 11.3 and has no R-73, I think the main reason for making them 11.3 is Kh-29T.
@@Hunter_i86 I think that's just temporary. IIRC, the 25T and Su-39 both can use the R-73 IRL. I think that the BM will enjoy a short honeymoon period as the exclusive holder of the R-73, and then the missile will be distributed to other planes like the Su-39, Mig-29, and Yak-141. At that point the Su-25BM will be strictly inferior to the Su-39. I think the only factor keeping the 25BM at 11.3 at that point will be whether or not the R-73 is too oppressive against planes below BR 10.3, but I don't think any plane with flares will struggle much more than they do against AIM-9L.
I don't see Kh-29T being a factor holding a ground attacker to 11.3. Other nations get TV guided weapons at lower BRs. America gets walleyes all the way down at 8.7, and I know that there are tons of mavericks flying around in the 10.X ranges. IMO 11.3 is something more suited to the MUCH better flight performance of the Mig-27K plus the Kh-29T.

hi hunter, i've noticed in a lot of your videos you're getting extremely smooth and consistent locks with your TV guided weapons. Whenever i try to do this with basically any TV weapons (mavericks of all kinds, walleyes, kh29t) they lock onto the ground and then the lock jumps around and teleports to some random patch of dirt nearby for no reason. Could you perhaps explain how you get consistent locks especially from 3-4km+ with these weapons and stop them from bugging out and locking the ground? thanks in advance
Hello, I lock ground too but I pick static targets .. targets that I estimate they will not move in the next few seconds I mean. For Kh-29T get closer to 6-7km and then you can lock vehicles, not ground .. it is also recommended to pick clear targets, that means no cover around and no dead tanks around as well.

@@georges.patton4241if played well it can basically kill any aa despite its range by launching hellfires over hills and then acquiring the target once you pop back up and turn the laser on. Gaijin also made it so helis can now keep their target point even out of gimbal so it's better now too

As cool as it is, it seems pointless for ground RB in the face of better alternatives like the Su-39, which may end up getting R-73's and the Khod thermal pod later
It is a good alternative for those with a max ground tree but a weak air tree, that can't spend money on premiums. Hopefully they'll fix the R-73's, they seem a bit bugged right now

@@tristanveenstra8528 more than that, they jerk around a lot, watch a few videos and off the rails you'll see a lot of them miss due to over correction that seems extremely over the top. Especially when comparing them to even the worst missiles post new AAM updates. I'm talking a 30 degree back and forth while it accelerates and ultimately misses, especially in head-ons and frontal launches to horizontal as well
@@dingusbingus7463 that's True, tho for a similar amount of money you can just get the Su-39, which still has better air to ground capabilities and also premium status, so while you have to pay that upfront cost, I think it's a better deal overall, especially when you consider the Su-39 will probably get buffed in the future

How are the guided bombs? I'm trying to decide if this is worth the GE to unlock and if so whether I should get the T-80UK and BMP-2M to begin a top tier GRB team for Russia or sell it.
IMO the only reason to get the Su-25BM is if you're hoping that it gets downtiered in the future to fit into a lower BR lineup. The Su-25T and Su-39 both eclipse it in air vs ground thanks to access to high magnification targeting pods with auto-trackers. The 25T and 39 also have access to VIKHR pods. The only advantage that the BM has over the 25T and 39 are the R-73 missiles. While the R-73 isn't insignificant, both the 25T and 39 can carry R-73's IRL and both are expected to receive the missile once the 25BM has finished enjoying its honeymooon period.
Compared to the vanilla Su-25 and the Su-25K, the 25BM has access to the TV guided Kh-29T and KAB500, but otherwise it shares the faults of lacking advanced optics to survey the battlefield and track targets. As a caveat, you can sort of use the camera on the TV guided weapons as adhoc optics, but it's a half measure.
A bigger concern is that the MIG-27K, which has similar anti-ground capability on top of VASTLY superior flight performance.
Personally I expect that the BM might be downtiered in the future. Americans are still clutching pearls about the R-73, but it's not appreciably better than the AIM-9L against attentive opponents with flares.

What do you think about the R73 AAM ? I watched that they are fixing them or buffing the shit out of them. But what do you think about them as they are right now?
I'm happy they made it not immune to flares to be honest, if it was OP people will hate it, and it needs to be fixed for sure. Smin said that the R-73 has a "temporary" setup autopilot based on a current config. The final R-73 autopilot will have an improved autopilot controller with an angle of attack, and this will solve most of the problems of these missiles.

If you have Su-25T sell the BM, I play Ground RB mainly so I prefer Su-25T because of TGP, R-73 is not very important to me.

Hunter could you revist the MiG-15bis Ish? I swear they have nerfed the rockets as in my experience they are only a fraction as effective as before, or am I just getting old?
You are not getting old, the rockets were bad and now they might be worse, you need to be lucky when targeting MBTs and aim very well, I recommend firing them as pairs on static targets.
Im also getting the su25bm but since i didnt play russia it wont be much of use and in air rb fighting f16a wont be fun so i might sell it...

I'm not locking, manual guiding with mouse. And I carry TV weapons for extra zoom.
That targeting method doesn’t seem very sophisticated. Can you even 'lock targets' with it for the laser guided munitions or is it manual? There’s still no thermal either?
No thermal, and yeah it is just adapting .. using TV of KAB-500 to guide Kh-25.

Hi hunter I wonder why you always take HE round on russian MBT's while u have atgm with enough explosives to over pressure targets with low armor. I think you should take 4 atgm and apfsds rounds ( you would be less likely to get ammmo racked)
Hello, ATGM after La Royale is not very reliable anymore, even the Russian one, you can't aim accurately on the commander cupola of enemy tank, the missile will do slight unwanted adjustments like going one degree left or one degree up even if mouse wasn't touched, noticeable at long ranges, like 1000m or more .. also sometimes you need to hit the commander cupola of enemy tank and immediately back to cover .. this is undoable with ATGM but it is doable with the HE shell.

It's just a Su-25T without the Vikhr missiles and a different cockpit. What I don't understand is why they didn't just give the Su-25T its' R-73's already when war thunder content creators have access to the Su-25BM before literally anyone else gets access to it.

You can't on this plane, because you are using the TV screen. This plane doesn't have TGP.
