Hi Tom, brilliant explanation ... totally clear now ... Just a pity that I cannot go on the water to test it (1 °C cold, no wind, no sun ...). But the next clinic will come, hopefully soon ;-). Keep your knees bend :-)))))
Hi, great video. I am small and light, with a short leg span so I need to have the front and back straps at their minimum span on my quad. Can you advise me on fin and mast foot position? I like to ride a van ( half way between lorry and car) ?
Any advice on fin sizing for thruster set ups, i.e how to calculate what size centre fin and sides to use based on board and sail size would be useful, thanks and really informative videos on topics that often don’t get covered.
Well, not really a calculation here. Usually production boards already come with a real good setup, as tested many times from different riders, different weight etc. When going thruster, only do on a 84 liter Mamba, I usually use a 17 cm center fin and 11,5 sidefins... If you are wave starter or still learning to ride a larger center fin definetely helps. Same for very slow and mellow waves or very onshore conditions for extra power and lift. If you are better sailor would go smaller like on 16 or 15.5 to feel the board more loose .. I personally never change my sidefins... It really all depends on your boards shape, your skills, style and preferences, the quality of the waves you will be sailing, the wind of course.. a lot of factors and if you don´t trust the production fins coming with your board, there will be a bit of testing involved to find the right combo. Thanks for liking the videos! New ones finally coming up very soon !!
Hello Frans, you want to bring the Board as flat on the water as possible, so create lift at your tail. If wind is light, and you are standing behind mastfoot you need "counterbalance" forward so more pressure forward> mastfoot forward.
awesome, thank you, greeting from LaVentana Mexico!

Very nice. I definitively prefer the small car to the big truck feeling :). Mast base back and fins forward.
Nice ! Occasionally it can be a good idea to drive a truck to keep control. Have Fun sailing !!
good analogy!

Clear and easy, now to try it!

I have a small board for my weight, feels a bit difficult to go upwind and plane, should I go for a more truck-setup style?
Why is it that mast foot forward makes getting planing more easy. Many say light winds early planing is mast foot back and boom up? Thanks!
