there are 14 unused tracks in the pc-98 era this is enough for 1 pc-98 game the length of SoEW (5 normal stages+bosses and an extra stage+boss, plus title and staff roll themes
Dark. Light. Powerful. Relaxing. Western. Eastern. Fast. Slow. All at once, a conflicting but beautifully integral piece of music, undeservedly rejected and forgotten Zun's gem. This feels not like a credits theme, but like a theme of 6th or extra stage, actually, of a "The nearing end of the world is beautiful" kind, as it sets up a slightly depressive mood.
ZUN's comment :I was going to use this for the staff roll. It's not STG-esque, though, so I threw it out. The music has a soft and comfortable melody but unfortunately it is unused
i used to listen to this song all the time back when i first entered middle school…… hearing it years later when im about to leave highschool makes me want to cry..
My theory is that she would dream about having an epic fight assisting Shrek and Fiona against Prince Charming and Fairy Godmother under the full moon of Far Far Away Land.
Feels like Utsuho's sun slowly growing but instead of being made out of nuclear stuff, it's full of dreams~ The part at 1:20 and ahead teleports one's mind, doesn't it? Feeling sleepy... Could have perfectly worked for the Staff Roll indeed~. Though I think MS's already conveys a similar feeling with the similar instrumentation...
I've noticed something: one unused track in Touhou 2 and 3 sounds slightly like the previous game's sound style, but not quite, and that's somewhat true for all six unused tracks in this game, and even for the unused version of Decoration Battle!

After playing LLS, I’ll say this much: Most of the unused tracks are remarkable, but usually, don’t suit the game so well as the ones ZUN ultimately used. Not so for Crescent Dream, though. This is such a truly remarkable staff roll theme; it’s an awful pity we didn’t get to hear it in the final game…
