I don't know that I'd say that. I'd say that theirs good about both, and if you could combine the two of them you'd get a super Soundwave.
I got this guy and ER Bee a while back at Walmart. I love them both and theyre my two favorite WFC figures.

Here's the fun part. Since I think the movie designs are hideous, I also get a lot of hate from the Movie crowd as being a Geewunner.

In my area, Netflix Soundwave with Ravage and Laserbeak sold out as soon as they were put on Walmart shelfs. I was lucky to get one on the second day of its release.
-Sure, his cassette mode isn't as solid as his G1 and masterpiece figures, but is still cool.

I am not one of those people who says dumb crap like Hasblow. They make tons of really good stuff. This figure left me wanting though, and I'm not going to water down my opinion because I want to be nice to lifeless hunks of plastic.

i picked this guy and netflix prime up at Walmart last year I am obsessed with soundwave he's so good but i regret buying the prime cause the earthrise was right beside him but still like him anyways i really like this guy since he is my first soundwave since i normally collect movie toys

The worst part about this figure is how this and Bumblebee are Walmart exclusives...and Walmart doesn't have any more reprints either once they're gone. One and done.

I HATE how we haven’t gotten a Blaster for kingdom or Gen selects. due to how this kinda works is that blaster is soundwave’s cliffjumper. ITS JUST SO EASY. start with earthrise, change the molding to make show/character accuracy. Red plastic. New head. new gun.bada bing bada boom. this thing is flying off the online shelves. And while you’re at it. lets throw in some of the auto bot cassettes in there and make the full thing round 35-40 dollars. I SWEAR TR did it. WFC/FOC did it. WHY NOT NOW.
It needs new shins too, but otherwise I agree.
Now anybody who wants one has to pay double the price.

To be fair that's true, but he also had a worse robot mode. So how is it in almost 40 years did we only trade one good mode for another? How are both not fantastic at this point.

Na this was borderline cheap compared to some of the stuff I've bought. I got lucky and one was just on a shelf at Walmart when I was there for something else. Never seen one since.

I’ve actually been able to fan mode the siege version with my Sound Blaster into a alien Cassette Player so I have no need for this figure all I need is Laser Beak and ravage
Wow. Im kinda suprised you were this hard on this Soundwave. Just about everybody loves this toy, and he may be the most cartoon accurate ER figure there is. Plus, he comes with Laserbeak and Ravage, my favorite Decepticon.
Yeah I wanted to like this a lot more than I did, but it just left me feeling empty. It could very well be that it's just that I've already experienced the mountain top of Soundwave figures so all future Soundwaves will just feel lacking to me.
I do think it does feel a bit slapdash though. Like it feels like a different figure that was wrangled into what we were all asking for.

That's fine. I'm glad you do. I wish this figure didn't leave me so conflicted. I always want to like what I get. It's probably just the fact that MP Soundwave is literally one of the BEST Figures ever made, and it's a hard act to follow if you are trying to do the same thing.

Nice vid man! I got this figure and like it a lot, but I still like the siege figure a little more. Even though the siege transformation was a little lazy I like spaceships more than earth devices.
I'm glad you like both. For me I just wanted more out of the Earthrise version. I didn't mention it but it really feels like they took something that wasn't meant to have that mode and slapped it together.
I agree the Masterpiece Soundwave is like the best figure ever made.

Earthrise soundwave is honestly what I've wanted in a soundwave toy for 20 years, a posable figure that transforms into a microcassette player that actually stores tapes and doesn't empty your pockets doing it
It is that. It is surely that. I just wish the Cassette player mode was more cohesive. But if it satisfies you, I won't even think to say you are wrong.
@@PerspectiveEnd Definitely not 100 percent perfect with those old parts from when he turned into well, whatever you consider his cybertronian alt mode. Poor Decepticons have mostly been banished to the ambiguous-shape alt mode.

I have a ER Soundwave, and agree on your points the Cassette Recorder/Player is inferior to the G1 and MP. My dream cassette alt mode Soundwave would be the MP at around CHUG scale, the battery compartment holds the weapons, all the buttons are clicky and the knobs are functional, headphone jack (not musically functional of course) the 3 cassette gimmick if improved upon, and last but not least, have the little area on the bottom back of the MP be filled. Just my personal wish that maybe I can make a reality one day.
I mean all that would be awesome to have, but even the full sized MP couldn't make all that work. MP could only fit the two cassettes and the buttons only half worked so I don't see how you'll fit that in something half the size.

I realized something about this Soundwave after I managed to get my hands on one for a not so eggregious price: the legs are designed backwards.
Like, the legs are designed to bend the other way rather than the way they were originally designed to because the G1 toy didn't have to swivel the waist 180 degrees to accomodate the faux-forming button buttflap.
I didnt even notice this until I did a side by side comparison with the Kingdom core class figure which copies the G1 toy 1 to 1 and achieves the desired look.
So this is kind of a case of being spoiled by a better core version of what was supposed to be a better voyager.
Sucks man.

my favorite Soundwave figure is the Transformers Prime Soundwave, all due to how different it is to other Soundwave figures and it has a fun transformation.
Personally that's just not Soundwave to me. The only thing that makes him even similar is that he's kind of got Laserbeak Kind of, and he's loyal. That's it.
Looks nothing like him, acts nothing like him, fights nothing like him.
While the Masterpiece is clearly the best Soundwave ever (at least for now, cause I'm curious how Fanstoys' version will be if it ever comes out), this figure is still a good chug Soundwave. Between the Siege and this, I do prefer this, but I only got the Siege because the alt-mode is more cohesive and it was not over 60 dollars on Amazon (the aftermarket is hell). This figure is not perfect, but it's not a bad pick if you prefer this over the Siege version.
Yeah I mean as far as Chug Soundwaves go it's one of the few one's that looks mostly right and turns into the right thing.
Personally I don't expect the Fanstoys to be better than the MP.

This has me worried about SS leader Soundwave. Siege Soundwave is a fantastic mold - posable, looks great, and a fun transformation. His upper arms are a bit too slim and the alt mode isn't remotely close to his typical alt mode, but otherwise he's a good figure. I was hoping the SS version would be an update of the Siege mode.
This does not bode well.
I feel you on that, the fact that it's just going to be the netflix one with 1 SINGLE new cassette is a serious bummer! They better fix the arms.

I mean that's just obvious. That's like looking at a sports car and then at a horse buggy with no horse and saying that one is better than the other.
I truly believed the best mass market soundwave is the $30 bumblebee cyberverse Adventures soundwave comes with a mini laser beak too
I don't know the Core Class is showing this up real hard too, plus you know that turns into a truck, and a lot of people desperately want that cassette player.
Still one of the best soundwave figures.
That may be true. It's only the third Soundwave I've ever known. With the number 1 being the MP and the 2 being the Siege.

I have been trying for soooo long to find this guy at a semi reasonable price. The best I could find was 80 bucks and Bee is like 50. Also, I am so sorry Burns The Furnace could get your Bday Review. I got extremely lucky with mine.
It's all good, he said he was happy to see this one. And yeah, I struggle to say this is worth what Hasbro is charging for it. It's not worth 80 by any stretch of the imagination.

I just think Light piping at best looks SLIGHTLY better than painted eyes, and almost as good as Chrome eyes, but 99% of the time they aren't and their best, and the result is they look dead and lifeless.
And even when it's lit up you have to shove the light piping up a bulbs ass to get it to work properly, putting the rest of the figure in shadow.

I wish I had found out about your channel long ago. I went nuts with the Cyclonus when it came out and got 6. I did the same thing recently with the Coronation Starscream just so I could outfit all my seekers in the full royal regalia. Now that I'm aware of your channel just holler and I can help you out. I have buddies that work at Target and Walmart. I've yet to miss out on a mainline release.

@@PerspectiveEnd dont trust the websites! Also best advice id give you is to go everyday! I went one day and bought hot rod but no other 86 figs were there. I went the next day and there was 1 jazz and 4 blurs!!!

Imo lightpiping makes a character look dead from three out of four angles. It works well when the figure’s directly in front of a window of a light, but most of the time there’s a glassy void where the eyes should be.

MP Soundwave is absolutely the thing you should stick with.
And I dislike light piping because it only looks decent some of the time. Most of the time it's completely lifeless, and even when it looks decent it rarely looks amazing.
Let me tell you, yes I feel like a mad man cause that Pace is a harsh mistress, and I almost postponed this very video to Sunday to give my self a small break. But I want to hit AT LEAST 5K before I do that, preferably 10.

And thanks for the Complement. That's actually one of the things I aim for with my channel. A slightly more heavily produced Baltmatrix. A Thew but faster. A Vangelus but with fewer parts that people want to skip like posability. A Jobby but with out all the sex jokes.
I kind of want to land in the center of the Venn Diagram between all those guys.
I suppose the best way to phrase it is:
Efficient like Baltmatrix, but with Higher Production Values.
Charming like Thew, but without all the DEEPLY thought out word play.
Informative like Vangelus, but not at the expense of brevity.
And Funny like Jobby, but not at the expense of video release rate due to taking so much time to make sure each script is hilarious.
If I'm worse than them in all those categories I'm happy as long as I at least made it into all the categories.

Yeah, eBay isn’t the best place to buy hard to find transformers, especially those such as masterpiece and third party. People always sell for way more than they were originally sold for. Sometimes you find a few rare good deals, but it’s mostly expensive.
It especially doesn’t help that it seems the pandemic has caused some sellers to raise the prices on their figures, it’s ridiculous.

I've gotten some good use out of Ebay getting 3P figures or used figures from late waves but yeah current stuff is a racket.

I'm glad you like it. I've had it for a while. Personally I love, Love, LOVE my MP Soundwave so even if I hated this I would still have a Soundwave I love so it's all good.

6:20 Well, there was that Takare 2020 reissue that made it to some sellers, including Hasbro Korea along with MP Megatron and Bumblebee. Sure it's out of production now, but at least there was that late chance period in a small part of the globe.

I have same issue with the knees AND the calf flap for transformation, way too loose. I actually feel like more should’ve been done for this figure, it’s a 40 dollar figure! Maybe a wrist rotation or have his legs pull a Soundwave PROPERLY at least. I got a Hot rod recently and was shocked at how much 10 dollars can add to a figure. Honestly hotrod made me consider if the WFC figures may seem a bit under-engineered and that really saddens me.

No no. You were fine, I was the one stressing me out. I was just heaping responsibility onto my self. I just want to make people happy and it's a bit stressful at some points, but it's no one's fault but mine.
And yes. That's exactly what I've been saying this whole time. Especially with Earthrise. They did only the bare minimum in the engineering department. My expectations aren't too high, I know what they are capable of.

@@PerspectiveEnd bought them all. Set a new one day walmart bill at about 200 all together. There were 4 more grimlocks and a few hotrods left i could have swooped up but I hate scalpers too. Maybe they survive, go on clearance, and some young kid gets a $10 Grimlock. We can only hope...

No I don't. I got lucky and it was just there on a shelf once when I was actually getting other stuff, after I'd been looking for it for months my self.
You might be able to buy it on Walmart.com and get it shipped to your local Walmart, that's my best advice.
