- July 2020. Rivendell! Lake Aloha, Desolation Wilderness! This is a 2 day backpacking and hiking adventure to one of the most stunning places I have ever been: Waterfall Camp at Lake Aloha, in the Desolation Wilderness, near Lake Tahoe. Eldorado National Forest, northern California. Almost everyone who goes on the Lake Aloha trail camps on the other side. Waterfall Camp is a hidden magical spot. Five major waterfalls in one location, and many other falls streaming off the cliffs. I was in Rivendell. And I was all alone in the Desolation Wilderness. This hike was the highlight of 2020 for me. Such an incredible place.

What a savage! Way to get all the way back there from Horsetail! Thats such an awesome little cove back by Mosquito Pass & the Slabs of Insanity. I have seen all of these waterfalls but never made the trip around the lake. It looks like a trip well worth taking! Thanks for sharing and your attention to detail in production!

Man what a great place, I have been eyeballing this hike for a while but I haven't been back out there... looks so amazing. Windy but what a stunning area. Amazing lake and waterfall views. Amazing camp spot too with the sound of the water. Looks like some good snow fields and scrambles along the way. PYRAMID PEAK LOOKED AMAZING.

Jennifer Lupine somewhat close. My original plan was to hike on the PCT, but since there was no parking at the trailhead I did a different route.

This is a truly beautiful area brother! Those falls were cool to see! I enjoyed the one with the big rock like a flat surface that you could slide down on haha.

A bit blowey but still great weather, although the trail looked real rugged in a few places. I couldn't hear a word you were saying at the waterfall but man, it was a beauty. Got to say, I do not know how you slept at all with the noise of the waterfall. Just as well the 6 miles back was all downhill with limited sleep. Cheers Alan

@waterfallmadman - @3:41...there are two of you! 😁 I've gone up to the top of the falls a couple times, but with a daypack. There are some sketchy sections going up by the falls! Can't imagine doing that with a fully loaded backpack. You da man Leon!!!

This is one I have not yet got to get out to. I hurt my knee back in May and have been trying to take it a little easy. Now seeing your video I have to make it out there. The views were stunning and the waterfall just beautiful. How was the scramble up at the top of horsetail falls? All of the lakes looked so pretty, now I have to go. :)
Kathys Outdoor Adventures it is an amazing hike, it is hard but so worth it. The scramble to the top of horsetail is always sketchy, more so with a backpack on. It is easier to go from Echo Lakes. Thanks for watching and commenting. I hope your knee is better.
I've been having foot & knee problems this year. I discovered this site by camping on the north shore and spotting people near the falls. I fully intended to get to this site this year, but the world is conspiring against me. Hoping maybe in october.

Oh wow! This is incredible! This destination has been on my list for years now. Finally set aside time to make the trek at the end of this month. Have you hiked from Echo Lakes Trailhead before or was this your first time exploring here?

I was told second hand that Waterfall Camp was burned up by a spot fire when heavy winds were blowing the Caldor Fire up Lyons Creek. Have you been back this year to confirm/refute? The area seems so protected by the surrounding ridges an all that granite, so I'm reluctant to believe it. Would love to hear someone's first hand account.
I don’t know but I would agree with you it does not seem likely

are you able to cross all the waterfalls and go from the northwest side of aloha to the northeast side of aloha?
bunjeeventure it’s too cliffy. You could not go that way.
