Programmable Thermostats are the new VCR where unnecessary complicated programming schemes are concerned. Thanks for making this video. To think, I'm an experienced computer tech who can tell a team full of network engineers what they did wrong but somehow the thought of figuring out how to program this thing from the instruction book was melting my brain. So simple now that I've seen it thanks to you.
That's a fantastic tutorial! Thank you! For those that think it's too complicated or that want to set it manually, simply set the fan to auto, set to heat for heating or cool for cooling, and press the up or down arrow to get your desired temperature setting. Then press hold to hold that temperature setting permanently. You can reset the up or down arrows anytime you want manually.
I did that and it doesn't work. Just to get it to go on I had to set it to 75 and still didn't stay on any where long enough to get heat. We're freezing.
I have viewed quite a number of tutorial of how to program my thermostat and this has got to be the most straight forward one. Thank you so much.I finally got it done.
This video was very helpful. Was so hot in my house till my friend suggested going on you tube for instructions. Could not figure it out on my own. I think it's working now. Thank you.
I am so thankful for your video! Our ac kept going from cold to like 78 degrees and I knew something was wrong. I lost our instruction manual and saw this video and fixed it. Thank you soooooo much!!!
Thank you! The home we moved in had an identical thermostat. This was much easier than downloading the manual to figure out how to program our thermostat
thanks! i was freezing. You cannot figure this thermostat out by looking at it and trying different buttons frantically. It doesn't show enough intuitive info when your frustrated. that is why I use youtube for situations like this.
OMG this has saved my nerves! Been in new home two months. Don't know why I didn't ask for help? But this thing is so darn complicated. Thanks for video!😡😢😃
Nicely done. Very clear, step-by-step directions. Who says gals can't do this kind of stuff> You rock! Too bad the display numbers aren't a bit larger.
I couldn't get the up/dn arrows to make the screen respond..., so started randomly pressing the Set and Run buttons just to get it to unfreeze. THEN you hit the RUN button and gloriously KILL that programming beast. How many people have smashed this thing with a hammer just to get it OUT of their home!? What's wrong with adjusting our own temps when ready to leave or sleep or when we come home??
Good lord, I think I'll just use the fireplace when I want to stay warm xD Is there any way to bypass all the scheduling stuff? I'm retired and just need to adjust the darn thing to constantly maintain about 65 degrees so I neither freeze nor get reamed by a giant power bill.
TheJedisch, You can set it manually quite easily. Simply press the up or down arrow to select your desired temperature. Then press the hold button to hold that temperature permanently.
Ron Dryden, yea mine will not stay and keeps going back to set program when the time for the program engages. I always have to adjust when that time frame changes and would just like to not have the set system schedule on it. I like to do all adjustments myself and that dam set system will keep getting in my way.
thank you soo much I had no idea how to do it and it kept heating my house to 80 degree. now I have it set on permanent override thank you again for the video!!
I have this exact one and I almost fought my landlord over how I just wanted to change the temperature and it was doing a bunch of janky shit when I hit set and had no clue what to do. This solved my issues I believe so thank you whoever you are
Thanks a million for this! So damn helpful. I woke up at 5am freezing so I went downstairs to finally try and work this thing out! The test will be tonight now to see if it works and stays at temp! But at least if nothing else, I understand my Honeywell better so we’ll get there eventually 👍🏼 thanks again!
Very useful, and finally I got the time to learn it once and for all, I just have one more question so lets say I set it up Weekdays/Weekends to 73 Cool, If the temp goes higher than 73 lets say 75, Is the AC going to kick in or it wouldn't wait until it reaches the time of the setup and just then it will start?
I want to thank you for making this video. I'm in a new apartment. Well technically not. I've been here for over a year but I didn't need to adjust the thermostat last year. But this year, it's so COLD early. Can you tell me what type of battery it takes? The screen says that the battery is low.
the newest thermostats have a default setting so when you give up trying to program it you just hold the default button for 3-5 seconds and it sets everything to the most common settings. I think it is the Honeywell Brand. They understand people dont think well when they are shivering or sweat rolling down in your eyes
Fair enough explanation of how to operate the product but it is still 50x more complicated than it should or needs to be. When you have 600k views on a video of how to operate a thermostat chances are you made it much more confusing than it should be.

I am ready to throw this thing out the window. Why, why why make it so difficult? I don't really want to go spend more money for another thermostat but this one (RTH7500) and the instructions don't seem to have anything to do with each other.
Nice and good to know, but I was hoping for a way to turn it off as mine looks like yours closely but the set button was touched accidentally and now I can’t get it turned off. I have to constantly go back and reset the temp with adjustment and hold button when time changes for set time.
Thank you, now I check to see if my thermostat works because the "run" part didn't look like yours and this device is 3 yrs old. Is the maintenance # 1-800 or what is the area code?
Thank you! I hate this thermostat! Mine only works for heat in the winter and it was set to 70 and that's too hot for me! I kept setting it to 63 and it wouldn't stay I was getting so irritated thank you
Omgoodness, I am laughing sooooo freaking hard at the comments of those who are having the same problem I'm having 😂😃😄😅😆😉I am Screaming and Hollering and Kicking and Crying and Rolling on the floor Laughing out Loudly because it has been extremely cold here in Moreno Valley California lately and my furnace it tripping toooooo! Omg my stomach hurts from laughing because the struggle is real and I still haven't figured it out YET! GOD PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send me an ANGEL that will help me set this thermostat tonight
Hi, i set the time programs and from the mode, it shows it skip accordingly. but the heater didnt make a change. i only hook R & W at the back. dont know if anything else i need to attention on. thank you.
My thermostat is set for manual I put it on 65 and it 83 degrees in my apartment. I set the temp to 65 and pressed hold and it is not cooling down my apartment. :( What is wrong?
I don't understand about the bottom buttons that say heat, off, cool. You say to move them to whatever I want, but I want it on the automatic program. No where does it say auto. Do I have to go back and forth to the thermostat when it should change to move those buttons? If I set it for off does that mean the whole system is off?
Marge Lehmann from what I’ve seen with mine, yes you will have to. If it is set for cooler temp but way colder outside then it just waits till temp rises above to start cooling off but if that doesn’t happen like mine. The heat will not kick on to stabilize the temp automatically.
Thank you! how to put it on auto permanently like 66 degree? And still I can switch it off when ever I do not need it but when ever I put it one just to run it 66 degree , I have Niagara Eco.iq system on my wall thanks !
If you want to turn your heat on. Try turning the temp all of the way up on your thermostat.80-90 degrees. The heat should kick on within 5 minutes. Also make sure to check your breaker just in case.

The fact that this video has over a million views prove that they made it more complicated than it needs to be work a thermostat.
Best assessment here.
Holy crap. I finally gave up on trying to figure this thing out on my own and looked it up. What an over-elaborate way to program a thermostat.
Excellent, detailed instructions along with explanations as you go through the programming. You answered everything.Thank you!
Thank you sooooo much. My house was cooking when I got home... 91 degrees in Fl. Your clip really helped!
This video was very helpful. Was so hot in my house till my friend suggested going on you tube for instructions. Could not figure it out on my own. I think it's working now. Thank you.

There is a world of difference between something that can be understood and that which can’t be misunderstood!
Awesome. Very simply put, very well produced. Just happened to be the thermostat I have in my new apartment. Thanks!

Well said, Garboman. This is like asking for driving directions in a maze. The explanation is like a haze.

Thank you so much, this was so helpful. I had no idea what what these buttons were doing.
Thank you very much. I was having issues with getting my ac to work and this video helped me very much. Thanks again.
