Thanks so much for your very generous feedback, George, really glad you enjoy my drivel! Although, in fairness, I do talk about gear from time to time but only in so far as it fits in with my style of photography. Plus, I do get asked about it a lot! But I do always prefer to concentrate on creativity wherever possible 😊👍
Always love being recked around the most beautiful place on the planet. Unfortunately I can't anymore, but your roadside photography video is what I've had to contend with for a few years now, but I still love what I do xx thanks for the great videos 👍
Brilliant, just brilliant photography! Its not nice to miss your videos but it is cool when I remember your channel, then return return to find that there is more that one video to just sit back and relish!
Many thanks, Rick! Sadly due to range of personal and family issues my video productivity has dropped off a lot in the last couple of years and whilst I'm hopeful of picking it up again next year I'm not sure when that might come about, perhaps by the summer. So I really appreciate you dipping into my back catalogue and really glad that you still find something to enjoy there. 😊👍
I know exactly what you mean about just loving being there. Eryri is a very special place and being in the right place at the right time can be quite emotional.
Lovely spot and some fine images. Been there several times, but never photographed a sunrise (getting a bit too old for early starts now), but tempted after that. Used go up there for an swim during that real hot spell in 2022, most times I had the place to myself.
Thank you David for such a lovely video, which shows off the beauties of Eryri. Perhaps I could suggest hand warmers that you can slip into your gloves. You are suffering for your art, but we are the benefactors.
Hello Peter, what I neglected to mention was that I have hand-warmers and much better gloves available to me. All I need to do is remember to bring the things with me! 😊👍
"I think I might have some images" and then comes a set of absolute stunners lol!. Just got chance to watch the video after I commented that I was eager to watch it on your Facebook page. So glad i did, great video 👍
Where to begin…loved this video! It was somewhat like being there with you for the hike and photos…and a bit of suffering only added to it. Completely related to sometimes simply wanting ‘to be there” feeling and photos optional. Of those you showed I really loved the one with the 9mm and the wall and lake …the wall gave a sense of history to the image as well. So glad you shared this! Btw your vlogging and sound was great. Made the experience so real. I don’t know what you use for it, but it works very well! Ps..your gear page says OA3👍
Hello Gordon, thank you ever so much for your hugely generous feedback. It is much appreciated. I do have the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 also listed on my gear page which is what I have used for most recent sound and vision work. But I carry the OA3 as a 'B' camera if I ever want to set up second angles or I need to use it in the wet because the OP3 isn't weather sealed of course. Plus, now and then I do a time-lapse so I need a second camera for that sort of thing. 😊👍
Brilliant David, yes one of my favourite locations, i know you got really cold but it was worth it with those amazing images, take care and see you soon
Yes it's a lovely location, fishing or photography. I fished there a few times in the past, but don't really bother with waters which are stocked, these days. 😊👍

Cheers Iain, yes it was a cracking sunrise, almost good enough to make it worthwhile being that cold ... oh, go on then I'll admit it was well worth it! 😂👍
Fabulous vlog David and stunning shots, I particularly like the dry stone wall foreground shot. From one of your previous vlogs at this location, it is top of my list for sunrise on my next North Wales road trip.

Hi David. Glad you made it back down the slope to the boathouse safely. Did you find the plaque showing where I broke both bones in my left leg there 😂. Interesting place to photograph despite those memories.
Yes this is a fantastic UA-cam channel. Not many you can actually learn , but this is definitely one. I am always checking for a new video. I am definitely going to be taking the trek up to Anglesey. You sell it well
Good morning David. I stopped off here last year so I’m in awe of the images that you have taken. Watched from start to finish and thoroughly enjoyed😊😊😊
I love the last 2 shots on your Vlog David. You get superb light in that valley don't you? A couple of years ago we got lost coming off Nantlle Ridge and got back to the car about 2 hours later than intended just as the sun was starting to set - it was some of the most spectacular lighting I've ever seen anywhere ever in Rhydd Ddu and along the ridge and on Mynydd Mawr. Well worth getting lost for! All the best, Phil.
Hello Phil, yes it's one of those places where the valley sides aren't too steep so that you get early morning and late evening light down to the valley floor and coming in through Dyffryn Nantlle. some of the other northern Eryri valleys are quite steep sided and deep so they don't enjoy quite so much good light. 😊👍
Beautiful shots Mr. G as per usua,l some people don't understand the hardship of a landscape tog early mornings, cold, rain. etc. not like these studio lad's n lasses 😊😊
As it happens, that’s actually quite easy for me to answer. I would opt for the Leica 15mm f/1.7. It’s the one I always go for if I’m only taking one lens. Slightly wider than a standard, so works well for landscapes, which of course is most of what I shoot. But also doubles as a very capable street and even portrait lens 😊👍🏻
@@davidbeck1696 Ah no, don't misunderstand me, I do use Olympus lenses. But I was simply answering a rather specific question in this instance. And 15 mm is a focal length which I would find most useful if that was all I had, one which isn't available in the Olympus line. As for cost, there really isn't much in it, between Olympus and Pana / Leica. However, there is a quality to the optics of Leica lenses which I really like. 😊👍
Wonderful. Thank you for your always in depth answers. I’m in the market for a new prime lens and just wanted your opinion. And you’ve answered perfectly. I’ll look forward to your adventures buddy. Thank you for your content. 😊
Such a great video of a beautiful location David many thanks. Also thank you so much for no adverts and sponsorship it's refreshingly nice Also for me the shot with the wall blending into the tree is a stunner again many thanks

Thanks a lot H, it is a bit of a standard image from there, but I only tend to take advantage of it when the light is just right. Many times I've been there and haven't bothered with it. 😊👍
Cracking set of images Dave, love that place. Nice to knowthat as I have got older I feel that cold so much more than I did. My youngest dragged me out last night to see the Aurora and as nice as it was the cold got into my old bones and I could not warm up.. to top it off my gear these days isn't designed to capture night photography although his fast lens was putting a smile on his face as the red spikes appeared ojn the back of the camera. Great images as usual. It’s such a lovely place. Well done for sticking it out on a freezing morning. i was there at the beginning of October last year and my god it was cold then especially when the wind blew.

Nice video David. I see you are using the Kase circular magnetic filters now. I am thinking of changing to these , especially now that the new OM1mkII has the in built Grad ND.
Hi Roger, I've actually been using these for the last two or three years. With a 77mm set and one or two step up rings they fit all of my m4/3 lenses nicely, and are so light and easy to carry I can't imagine using any other sort of system. And I have no problems with the three stop GND. I've never really felt the need to slide it up and down, and of course it rotates. Thanks for posting the video and the images. Loved the pictures and the 9mm Leica image is my favourite. Must try and find the location when I’m next in the area although I guess sunrise in May will be at stupid o clock! Thanks again. I appreciate your videos and images very much.
Lovely video! You had some amazing light there. Love the composition with the stone wall leading to the tree. What do you use for filming? Looks like a prety smooth and clear film camera there. Looking forward to mode video! Grt guido
Hi Guido, I used the DJI Pocket 3 for this one. I also have the Insta 360 Ace Pro and switch between the 2, depending on what I'm up to. Sometimes I take both so I can set up a BTS B camera 😊👍
Thank you David, terrific images. BTW what is the brand of the bracket and base that you used on your OM-5? I liked how the base clipped into the strap around your body.
Hi Peter. It's a Peak Design capture clip. Initially designed to be clamped to a backpack strap. But I use it with a camera strap and and fixing plate on the camera base as a quick release solution.
@@DGriffGallery it worked really well. I am always worried about putting my OM-5 on a tripod as the OM-5 fascia around the thread is not robust, but your set-up looks to be a good solution; and efficient. Thank you.
The angling club which owns the fishing rights started locking the gate during the pandemic. Not sure why, because it's the easiest thing in the world to climb over! And, of course, it's in the open air, so health and safety concerns were somewhat ludicrous at the time. The land around the lake, however, is national park, and they actually don't have any legal right to prevent access, they just own the fishing rights to the lake itself. Although, these days it remains unlocked and there was no sign of any any chain and padlock on this visit 😊👍
@@DGriffGallery ha nice mine is the same only my first name is Daniel . I go to snowdonia Anglesey and on the Llyn peninsula once a month then swap to the Lake District . This is a hard question for me But if you could only go to one place for ever in snowdonia where would it be ?
@@avantgarde8402 Hi Daniel, that's a really tough question to answer. It depends on the context, I'm afraid. So I can't give you a single reply. However, ideally my choice would be The Glyderau / Tryfan, but that would only be if I could have the place to myself. These days I only visit this area quite rarely when it's reasonable to expect it to be quieter than usual. So if I were forced to make a choice with circumstances being the way they are in real life, then that would be to base myself at Rhyd Ddu. This location is much quieter, and provides a wide range of opportunities for photography within walking distance at all times of year. 😊👍

Thanks for posting the video and the images. Loved the pictures and the 9mm Leica image is my favourite. Must try and find the location when I’m next in the area although I guess sunrise in May will be at stupid o clock! Thanks again. I appreciate your videos and images very much.
Cheers Trevor, it may be stupid o'clock, but at least it'll be a bit warmer! 😁👍
Thank you for such a good and fine content. Cheers
Thanks so much for watching! 😊👍
Dave, unfortunately your “suffering” is extremely entertaining 😂 Love your work 👍
You're welcome! 😂👍
Gorgeous set Dave. Looking forward to May 11th.
What's happening on May 11th? 😁👍
@@DGriffGallery Have I got the date wrong? Llandwynn Island meet?
@@terryrees8574 No mate, I was taking the piss!! 😂👍
Thank you.
Watched this last night. What a beautiful place. You need to get a pair of warmer gloves 😅.
Great video!
I have a pair of warmer gloves. What I need is to remember to take them with me!! 😁👍
@@DGriffGallery haahaa, isn't that always the way it goes. 😂
The couple of times I’ve parked there the gate has been locked. How do you get in?
The angling club which owns the fishing rights started locking the gate during the pandemic. Not sure why, because it's the easiest thing in the world to climb over! And, of course, it's in the open air, so health and safety concerns were somewhat ludicrous at the time. The land around the lake, however, is national park, and they actually don't have any legal right to prevent access, they just own the fishing rights to the lake itself. Although, these days it remains unlocked and there was no sign of any any chain and padlock on this visit 😊👍
@@DGriffGallery easy to climb for a nimble chap like yourself maybe Dave but for a near 60 year old short legged portly dude like me it’s Everest! 😂
Such beautiful images. You need to invest in some warmer gloves 😂. Great stuff thoroughly enjoyed that, thank you.
Hi Paul, not so much a need to invest in warmer gloves but to remember to bring a bloody things!! 😂👍
@@DGriffGallery 😂
Tell Gary you’re not boring either ;-)
😂👍
D Griff who loves snowdonia 🤔sounds very familiar ha . Is your second name Griffiths
Good guess! 😁👍
@@DGriffGallery ha good choices . It’s so hard to answer that question and everyone who I ask can never give a straight answer I can’t my self . Like you said I absolutely agree there something about the ogwen valley especially when it’s overcast rugged grey very primeval . I seen your pictures of capel curig on google I always call into Llynnau mymbyr lovely place . And my last few Wales walks have been close to rhyd ddu I was at the twin lakes above nantmor hostel it’s very nice good views of cnicht
Aww... Dave, I'm disappointed. You could have got some good images of those lovely plastic boats in that light.🤣 Joking aside, great images mate.
Oh no! You're right, if only I'd thought of that. What a missed opportunity! And those plastic mouldings are so exceptionally aesthetic. Oh well, there's always next time ... 😁👍
Fantastic video, I really appreciate your sensitive and reflective commentary. It was classically an artist suffering for his art - hope you've defrosted?
Hello Paul, thank you so much for your generous feedback. Yes, it was a bit of an "I've suffered for my art, now it's your turn!" shoot! 😂👍
Wonderful images, Dave.
Many thanks, David, really glad you enjoyed it 😊👍
