Thank you mate, yeah it seems to have worked well, oh I know, I absolutely love them, ive wanted them for a while now and love the colours on these ones
I'm about to set up my first saltwater tank and I think I will try your way. Thank you for making this video. And I wouldn't worry about any backlash. I've been on the freshwater side for a while, and there too are people so stuck their traditional ways, that not only will they not ackgnowledge that time, knowledge and technology moved on, and so did the methots, they will actively try to chastise anyone using modern methods. Don't pay any attention. Do what you love. Your tank, your way, your rules!
Thanks Paul! 👍 yeah ive wanted them for a while now and love the colours on these ones so fingers crossed they behave of they will be off to the jail! 🤣🤣
Awesome Ross. I’ve always had a view you can’t break the rules of physics and nature. The golden rule has always been once the nitrogen cycle has completed its safe to add fish. Your test results absolutely prove this. I’m downgrading soon and will definitely be using Colony.
Good video. Colony does what is says on the bottle. I haven't read of any negative stories regarding Colony. Used to watch a TV show that used it all the time (Tanked). Hopefully the Damsels work out and they behave.
Hi, very interesting and revealing video for sure. One question: what happen with the damsels?, at the last part of the video cant see them ... did they die?, honestly I' m worry to add fishes so fast, and wonder how the fish pass all this process. Thanks'
Hey Man, I know this video is over a year old now but I am looking into starting my first tank (60l) will only house a couples clowns i think to see how i get on, but my question is, from this video can you rememeber if you used dry or live rock? Cheers bud
Was just wondering where do you go now that Nessies Lair isn’t around? I’m in Clackmannanshire and all I really have “locally” is Fishkeeper Stirling and they hardly ever have much choice for livestock.
Love what your doing videos are great and your Scots what a bonus, One year next month since I started reefing. I decided to try Colony sadly it didn’t work for me, l lost my two baby clowns within three hours of putting them in tank I almost gave up felt so bad, I followed the instructions not sure what went wrong, maybe me and lack of experience.
Thank you very much 😁 oh nice one thats awesome, you will soon be addicted if not already haha. Oh I'm so sorry to hear that, did you have an ammonia spike?
To be honest I didn’t test that day after I lost them I was to gutted, I left the tank alone it took a further almost 6 weeks before I felt it was cycled, I don’t want to knock this product as it clearly works for a lot of people.
Used ATM colony on all the tanks ive set up never had any complications. As long as you test daily and follow the instructions its a perfectly safe way to cycle a tank in a few days
I wish would have used my MB 7 fish cycle method. I keep doing water changes after using dr tims and the next day it back at 4ppm! Its been 10 days or so! Now i dont know how I am every going to add fish with it so high! I am in a big hurry to get this cycled because Ihave to many corals coming in and I need to move some over to frag tank I am trying to cycle. I think the rock that I added a day or two later without curing is leaching ammonia! I cured the rubble and small rock because it was used but the other wasnt! Any advice. i dont think Usa carries this brand! Did you bleach cure your rock?
I had aimed for 10 in my peninsula mini but chasing numbers didn't go well for me so I just let it settle where it's stable and it's now at 26 and everything is doing well
Dr Tims or ATM colony will work fine. What people don’t understand is that the bacteria takes time to increase and will slowly increase based on the amount it can handle, if you throw in 10 tangs in straight away it will produce more ammonia that the bacteria can handle in that short time. That’s why you start slowly with 1 or 2 fish to give time for the bacteria to adjust to the needs, then you add fishes in slowly…
I put in atm colony and waited 15-20mins then added my clowns, after an hour i came back to see them struggling so did a test and my ammonia was reading 1ppm, 1 of the clowns was on its side so i decided to take them both out as i was worried they would die! What did i do wrong?
If you keep the damsels, some really nice fish to keep with them since they can be a bit aggressive and complement colors would be a hawkfish (flame or Longnose), elongate or orchid dottyback, and maybe a galaxy or Spotcinctus Clarki clown.
Good video Ross, a little worrying how your Damsels will take to newcomers into the tank, but time will tell I guess. As for is it the right or wrong way and others opinions, as has been proven many times in this hobby, there is more than one way to skin a cat……. Good luck with it fella and look forward to the updates.
Hello Howard, thank you, yeah it is a little risky but as you say time will tell 🤞 there are many ways to "cycle" a tank but this one seems to be working well so I can't complain so far
The product works, the numbers speak for themselves. Great video. Lovely tank.
Thank you very much, yeah I am impressed to be honest
Nice update Ross. That stuff looks like it works a treat. Beaut Damsels, love their bright blue colour.
Thank you mate, yeah it seems to have worked well, oh I know, I absolutely love them, ive wanted them for a while now and love the colours on these ones
When I had my first tank I used ATM and I had no problems with it at all and I will
Be using it on my upgrade. Love the videos on this tank
Brilliant thanks for letting me know, I'm glad it's working well as I was a little nervous! Thank you!

Colony works really well. Great to see the progress of the tank Ross. Interested to see what other fish you will be adding.
Thank you very much mate, yeah I still don't have a list of what I want yet! Need to get a move on haha
Nice update and step by step guide Ross 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. I m a lover of blue damsels as colour is hard to beat although they are very territorial
Thanks Paul! 👍 yeah ive wanted them for a while now and love the colours on these ones so fingers crossed they behave of they will be off to the jail! 🤣🤣

Thanks mate, yeah I would agree, it appears to have worked really well to be honest

Thank you, yeah it appears to have worked really well anyway, fingers crossed they behave and I don't have any issues!
The guys from Tanked were the ones that created colony its their own product
@@melódic_breeze_VIIIV yip👍
Hiya. Would be interesting to know how you got on and when you did the first water change after adding Colony
hi after adding colony when did you do the first water change it dusnt say on the bottle thanks nice tank mate

Did you do a follow up video?

Hello mate, I used dry rock 👍
Was just wondering where do you go now that Nessies Lair isn’t around? I’m in Clackmannanshire and all I really have “locally” is Fishkeeper Stirling and they hardly ever have much choice for livestock.
Do you have to add fish? Or can you use ammonium and then add fish after?

Ahh ok, ive found you need to test at least once a day when cycling a tank
So do you feed the fish everyday as normal?
Yes I would
Used ATM colony on all the tanks ive set up never had any complications. As long as you test daily and follow the instructions its a perfectly safe way to cycle a tank in a few days
Nice one thanks for that! Yeah thats what I've been doing and hopefully it works out OK for me too
@@BeardedReefhi do you feed the fish everyday as normal?
Thanks Ross....Damsels ??? had these fish at one time - bullies, had to return them to LFS - did not like any new additions to the tank....let's see
Yeah, risky choice but it's a fish I've wanted for a long time, if they don't work out I will return them but fingers crossed they will be ok

Just added this to my tank nothing in it yet but can I ask the nitrate how long before that came down? Also would I need fish in straight away? Subbed
what is the level of nitrate you want to keep your reef tank at and is it the same for all breeds?
I had aimed for 10 in my peninsula mini but chasing numbers didn't go well for me so I just let it settle where it's stable and it's now at 26 and everything is doing well

Yeah thats exactly it mate, these things take time, fingers crossed it turns out to be ok, thays why I haven't stocked it with lots to start with
Used it on my fluval and had no problems in it apart from the usual ugly stage etc
Nice one thanks mate! 👍
I’ve used it in several tanks never had any issues.
Ahh nice one thanks mate, good to hear of others who have had success too
Great video mate,
This will be my first time using atm and i was just curious to know when do you do your first water change?
Thank you, its a brilliant product, I done my first change after 2 weeks but your water tests will let you know when to do a change
I put in atm colony and waited 15-20mins then added my clowns, after an hour i came back to see them struggling so did a test and my ammonia was reading 1ppm, 1 of the clowns was on its side so i decided to take them both out as i was worried they would die!
What did i do wrong?
Its not an easy one to answer as could be lots of reasons, maybe just the fact that you added them so quickly? I'm not sure, mines were perfectly OK
I'm thinking of doing a 50% water change and starting again
Have you tested the water again since then?
Is that dry rock in the tank?
Is turbo start an instant cycle
If you keep the damsels, some really nice fish to keep with them since they can be a bit aggressive and complement colors would be a hawkfish (flame or Longnose), elongate or orchid dottyback, and maybe a galaxy or Spotcinctus Clarki clown.
Thank you very much for that, some great suggestions there and one that I've already got my eye on 😉

Used dr Tim's and atm colony . Atm much faster cycled in under a week dr Tim's took nearly 4weeks .
Atm colony for me.
