Your slightly sarcastic sense of humour has been the cause of coffee being sprayed over my laptop, more than once. Keep up the jokes. Fulton Sheen knew how to speak about heavy subjects whilst keeping his great sense of humour. You do to. You can be funny in a subtle way sometimes which makes me laugh even more. I love your content and the clarity it brings to the faith. Blessings from Australia.😀👍

This was absolutely shocking to hear. I had to refer back to the article and the footnotes to see it for myself. So many "good Christians" view Luther as a saintly man who saved Christianity. Heck, Francis even put up a statue and made a stamp of this heretic! How is this even possible? Come, Lord Jesus, and establish your permanent Kingdom here on Earth!

The Church hierarchy at the time, just like today, was horribly corrupt and needed to be protested against! The Protestants were definitely the wrong bunch to do it! Ironically it was the “counter-reformers,” those Catholics as the name implies who were called to counter the Protestants were actually the real reformers of the Catholic hierarchy with their magnificent writings, pious prayers, great enduring patience, and lots of tough love! Sts. Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross, Robert Bellarmine, Charles Borromeo and many others were the real reformers, not Luther or Calvin and especially not fat Henry VIII!

Today, especially Protestants, need to know just how evil the man was. Back in his time, the lukewarm Catholics followed him while the devout held on to the faith. Archbishop Lefebvre is the devout Saint of our time. Praying for his canonization.

Luther's comments shock me, partly because Lutheran theology is the only Protestant theology I'm familiar with. Mr. Hall quotes accurately, I'm sure. But Luther's false beliefs tell me mostly about his character flaws and reveal too little about what 21st-century Lutherans believe. When I talked with a Lutheran friend of mine about some things Luther believed, my friend replied that Lutheran's disagree with Luther on some points.
This video reminds me of where we discovered many of Charles Darwin's many character defects. But you already know that they don't falsify his theory of evolution any more than my faults disprove what I know about my fields, philosophy and computer science.
Mr. Hall is welcome to tell us about what Luther, Darwin, or other people believed. On the other hand, it's fallacious to conclude that someone's vices disprove some theory he taught or some doctrine he believed. Luther's imperfections may have helped him draw some conclusions he drew. But I commit the genetic fallacy by saying that a belief's truth or its falsehood depends on what got me to hold that belief.
If I say, "Don't believe Lutheran doctrine, since Luther was an evil man," that's an example of the ad hominem fallacy. It's a way to attack someone instead criticizing what he believes. "Ad hominem" means "against the man."
There's a major problem with Luther's moral theology. For anyone to be guilty, he must have free will. People have it, but animal don't. That's why no one would imprison an angry dog for mauling an infant.

    • @Sarah-bug
      @Sarah-bug 11 місяців тому +6

A sinful mindset and lifestyle is most definitely going to affect a person’s relationship with God and thus his beliefs which influence his teachings.
The spiritual life and the salvation of millions of souls is not as trivial as philosophy or computer science.
The guy literally teaches people to “go forth and sin boldly” and to reject reason and conscience.
We are not talking about mere character flaws but rather indications of internal evil and , like any cult leader, his followers should be made aware.
If you follow him, you are in danger of becoming like him.

    • @williammcenaney1331
      @williammcenaney1331 11 місяців тому +1

@@Sarah-bug I agree with you. But I hesitate to say philosophy is trivial. Naturally, someone's everlasting salvation matters much, much more than anyone's philosophical theories. Still, about 62 Popes have recommended St. Thomas Aquinas's philosophy and his theology.
You know what "transubstantiation" means, I'm sure. But some people may not know that "substance" and "accident" are Aristoelian-Thomistic jargon. "substance" means essence. An accident is property a person, a place, or a thing can gain or lose and still survive.
"Substance" can also mean "an object that has accidents." Being-read, being-bald, being-soft, and being-hard are accidents.
Luther was a heretic like every other Protestant revolutionary. I wasn't recommending Protestantism. I merely told everyone that someone can be vicious, even if he did or wrote many great things. Lord Bertrand Bussell was a brilliant philosopher and a great mathematician. Who would warn me not to read, say, Russell's book "An Introduction to Mathematical Philosophy," since he cheated on his wife and bragged about that in his autobiography?
Maybe you're familiar with the late Protestant apologist Ravi Zacharias. Though I'm a traditionalist Catholic, I loved many of his lectures. Sadly, soon before his death, his "ministry" discovered that he raped a woman. That was terrible. And I can still hardly believe he hid his perversion for years. But his "dark side," never appeared onstage.
      www.christianitytoday.com/news/2021/february/ravi-zacharias-rzim-investigation-sexual-abuse-sexting-rape.html
I'm not condoning evil. My point is that even bad people can good, even admirable things.
Here's some information about Lord Russell, whom I admire for his work, not for his character.

Calvin - Cauvin - Cauuin - Cohen? A study on "Who was John Calvin"?
Points of interest: Disecting the surname study correctly
    1) The official name of John "Calvin" according to French cathedral registries is CAUUIN. That is "Cau - uin"
    2) The second "U" was originally a French "V". This "v" can either be a vowel or consonant. If the "V" precedes a vowel it becomes a consonant. Therefore it is pronounced "Cauvin" in French.
    3) However, it is well documented that "Cauvin" Anglicized his name taking it into the English language where the second "U" is NOT read as a "V" but retains the "U" sound - Cauuin.
    4) In the English name transition, the last three letters are therefore read as "uin" and pronounced as - - "whin" (short "i") due to the "au" diphthong preceding it being "whiffled out" as seen in the 1611 dictionary.
    5) The diphthong "AU". This is pronounced in the old French as "O" as in "foe".
    6) Therefore, in the Anglicized form the name Cauuin is correctly pronounced
C -oh - whin (short "i") exactly as the English "Cohen"
    7) The "L" in the name was from Cauuin's adaption of the Latin name he used in his university days, that of "Calvin", by which name he also became known in English as well as Cauuin. See the 1611 French/English dictionary for the consonant "L" in the middle of a word as being a silent "L", thus the archaic "Calvin" is still most properly "Cauuin" in both English and French. (dictionary link next column at bottom)
References: John Calvin was not born "Calvin".

@@Thor-Orion well Martin Luther didnt damage the church he lead people away only. The only one true religion is unwavering because God does not change.

22:51 to be fair do you think thatt a tad out of context & the heretic Luther meant “he looks on God as no more than a scoundrel “ to mean Luther himself is the scoundrel & looks to God for mercy ? Not trying to defend the man but I just can’t imagine ever calling GOD the literal King of the Universe a “scoundrel “ unless like you said Kennedy ,
ML is possessed by Satan .

However much I tried to believe in Catholicism, I find the book of Jonah to be *NOT* believable. As metaphor yes but literal, nope & no. Catholicism needs to back away from literalism. Catholicism shouldn't follow in the footsteps of fundamentalism bc that's *NOT* what the religion is about. It is about createing better people

Googling some of these quotes they seem to be horribly taken out of context. I'd love to bash Martin Luther's teachings, but this is more like bashing Saint Augustine for saying "Lord, make me chaste, but not yet".

Saint Augustine was tempted but resisted for the sake of the cross. Luther gave into temptation but claimed salvation because of the cross. Which one stands a chance of being right?

We have a winner! Someone who (may or may not have) listened to factual reason and rejects it as being of Satan. You ignored every single declaration written by your savior, Luther. Listen to the podcast again, troll. God grant you a saturation of grace. May you be blessed every day for the rest of your life. And stop this idiocy of serving a mere fallen angel. Serve Christ Jesus who died for you.

Respectfully may I say your statements are based on biased pre-Vatican 2 Catholic apologetics. Modern RCC scholars including recent Popes have spoken well of Martin Luther. There is a statue of Martin Luther at the Vatican and Pope Francis has cordial dialogues with the Lutherans....but not with the Confessional Lutherans who are not lqbtxyz (Missouri Synod USA, ELDONA Synod in Europe).

And that is wrong. Once a heretic always a heretic. They didnt repent of heresy so they remain heretics. No matter what the pope says. They remain heretics.

Modern RCC scholars are suspect, along with much of the post VII baggage. Luther was a heretic, and no apologetics from Bogus Ordo Catholics, a heretical Pope, or erroneous scholarship will diminish, nor eradicate this truth. Both St.Theresa of Avila and St.Padre Pio, stated that Luther for kindling rebellion against Holy Mother Church, is reaping his just eternal reward. There's is nothing to convince me to disbelieve this.

A lot of the quotations are from the drunken ramblings of Luther's "Table Talk", but Lutherans take them seriously.

That’s because only pre-Vatican 2 sources are trustworthy. It’s a mix of error and truth since then so when in doubt, trust the Fathers!
