Wow, thanks Caleb! Questions about the surrounds (perhaps for the review, unless you can answer here.) Are there just two units? If so, does Nakamichi treat them like dipole or bipole side-surrounds, or is each facade / set of drivers supposed to somehow be a side and a rear surround combined into one cabinet?
They are basically side surround and rear surround discrete channels with the idea of having the rear surround bounce off the rear wall and come at you from behind. Same idea as the Atmos speakers. Also like the atmos and wide speakers in this setup, it's not DSP-powered/mixed/magic. They are discrete channels that are implemented as if they were an actual speaker mounted in space near the wall.
Like most high end gear from Nakamichi there is nothing else like it , and if you have deep enough pockets and a room large enough to do it justice, then just buy one. FINALLY! I waited eagerly for this since I first saw the preview of the Nakamichi Dragon from your channel and others, Caleb. The increasing hype around it added even more to the excitement. I cannot wait for the full review! 🎉 Also, I have a question as a fairly newcomer into the HiFi audio community in relation to the Nakamichi Dragon which I hope will be answered in the full review: Will it be suitable or even proper to connect it to a receiver/integrated amplifier (for a more powerful audio experience) or is it made to be just a stand-alone soundbar surround system capable enough to match, say, like a Klipsch 7.2 home theater system? Thank you as always, Caleb!
I'm sorry about 7 months of research on the Dragon and having pre-ordered it . There are no connections to the central unit for any additional pieces of audio or video equipment for extra power or extra speakers. Several HDMI connections and a couple other Legacy connections but that is it. I asked one of the Naka Ninjas and they said I could hook up my wireless headphones via the optical jack that it has. So that was nice to hear. He also stated the on-line specific Naka headphones are not their headphones but a 3d party that has licensing to use their name. This Sound System has a total output of 3,000 watts so you not be lacking in power at 1/2 volume it will shake your family pics almost off the wall.
@@Mr.HotRod Thank you so much for this! And WOW, for Nakamichi to have made it this powerful on its own is definitely a game changer. It would help many home theater system owners save up from the cost of AV receivers and integrated amplifiers. The system already looks promising. It sure does look it can deliver a pack load of true surround sound!
If you were in the audio industry back in the 80s, and or an avid audio guru at the time, you would know that Nakamichi had a cassette deck called the Dragon. Their direct competition, which I feel was a better cassette deck. was the Aiwa F990. I sold and used both back then and had the Aiwa in my Home System.
@@fonkenful Indeed! Back in the eighties, there were two kings of the castle as far as cassette decks were concerned. You were either Team Nakamichi Dragon, or Team Revox B-215. I couldn't afford EITHER, but I always leaned towards The Dragon if I had to pick one, though you also could NOT take the Revox deck lightly, as Studer was the king of the multitrack recorders and two track mastering recorders found in most all studios back then. Definitely a tough choice. I would take either one, even today! 😊🙌🏾
In an addentum that must be made to my earlier post, I foolishly forgot to place the other "king" of that audio cassette castle I mentioned: the Tandberg 3014a cassette deck. Built like a proverbial TANK, it was also the cream of the crop in the cassette deck world. I remember those days with great fondness, reading the reviews of these mentioned, as well as decks by Teac, Sony, Aiwa and Nikko, which made a very good three head deck (the D-600) that was affordable and gave me great joy using. Anyway, my apologies if I skewed off topic. Cheers and salutations to all! 😊🙏🏾
@@Juraiprince I can only remember the impressions of machines I actually used, and possibly had a predisposition towards the Revox after owning two permutations of A77 (circa ‘73/74). The half track 15ips was definitely my favorite for a couple of small venue live recording sessions. The Crown SX 700 series was a vastly superior machine sonically, but not as user friendly, and felt like a lot more than just 8lbs heavier than A77 …. but I digress.
Great unboxing! I can’t wait to see your full review. I’m hoping purchases the Dragon surround system, but in my application would need to set the rear surrounds on top of some upper level cabinets mounted on my rear wall. Can you find out what the minimum recommended clearance between the top of the speakers & the ceiling is , and cover this in your full review?
All 500 units will say “1 OF 500 LIMITED EDITION”. They wont be labelled “2 of 500” or “499 of 500”. This wording is intended to mean this is “one of the 500 limited editions”
Like Caleb had mentioned there is a wall mount for the soundbar and there are also wall mounts for the two rear Atmos speakers Plus standing real nice looking standing stands for the rears but pretty pricey $299.00 + tax One of the Naka Ninjas told me over the phone that the rear Atmos speakers will have the wall mounts in the box but I'm unsure of that statement.
Wow U got a nice set up especially for a bedroom. I only have a Sony 65'er but a nice Pioneer Elite DVD player and my PC tower is hooked up to my tv so everything on the internet looks simply marvelous, especially the new 'SlapFighting" on UA-cam.
Waiting with baited breath for the full review. My question is this just a Demo unit or will this maybe be given away in the future. I really believe this will be the sound system to beat even for just music listening.
Thanks for the video and I will be attentive to the next video to see what you say about the room calibration power and if it is possible to apply equalization filters made with REW (Room EW Wizard) for example. Can you indicate in the next video the measurements of your room? in the 3 axes ? Is your main listening point at 13 ft ( about 4 meters ) vs. the soundbar ? If so, I advise you to put the listening point at 2.5-3 meters maximum so that you hear more the equipment and not the room. Does it have acoustic treatment ? Written with translator Greetings
Pretty good comment Cyber dyneeeeee: 👌When my big box arrives i'm having Caleb fly (First Class) over to my house and help me lift it out of the box. I have exactly a 62" entertainment unit very close to what Caleb showed in this video. Were going to drink a couple of shots of Hennessy though before we do the heavy lifting though
Dude… This thing is effing EPIC! Please excuse my seemingly teenage comment but my goodness! What an absolute unit! This is the definition of waiting with bated breath. Cannot wait for the review!
I ordered one of the first 500. I was hoping for the first one but noooooo. Hopefully it will show up soon. I think the remote also has a gold plate too
Not to ruin anybodies party but I believe all of the 500 Limited Edition Dragon Sound Systems are going to have the same plate on top of the Dragon (1 of 500) That does not mean it is the first one. The gold plate should of correctly read "ONE of 500". From what I have watched and learned the exact number of your unit (produced & sent out) maybe on the back of the main "Soundbar" or on the remote control some place or on the literature that comes with the paper stuff in the box. Have a good week. Hot Rod
Very nice unboxing! The dragon looks very good for a soundbar setup. Is there delay/connectivity issues with the wireless? I know wireless has its place in the audio world but is the sound quality the same as a wired setup? Seriously I would like to know. Thank you very much
I have the Samsung Q990C which is also wireless. I have experienced zero delay or connectivity issues. I can imagine at 3X the cost, this Dragon does just fine wirelessly 😉
When I read you had a video on the Nakamichi “Dragon”, I thought you meant the old Nakamichi 1000 “Dragon”, you know, the 3 head, 3 motor cassette deck with mic/line mixing, and auto-switching between tape formats (with bias and EQ over ride adjustments). That was the best cassette deck ever made. When released in 1973, it listed for $1,000 but soon went up to $1,100. I was in my first hitch in the U.S. Army at the time and had to settle for the Teac 450 , 3rd in line below both the Nakamichi ‘Dragon” and the Nakamichi 700.
This just in, evidently Naka has added $400.00 to the Dragon after their initial production run. I think a lot of us knew that was coming when you have the Hottest thing out there you get what you can get (MAX.)
Finally the reviewers can settle the heavyweight fight of 2023. Dragon ($3500) vs "Ultimate Sonos Setup" (Arc+2 Era 300s+2 Gen3 Subs = $3200?) Looking forward to this!
An enjoyable unboxing. Certainly visually impressive components. Given Nakamichi's comment on the complexity of manufacture, one hopes that long term reliability does not cause problems. What is the warranty period on the Dragon? How does the soundbar alone compare to the Sennheiser Ambeo Max?
If I remember correctly I did see the warranty for the Dragon but it was several months ago and it was only a regular warranty. 1 year parts and labor nothing that I remember was very special or even where you could purchase an extended warranty. Hope that helps Hot Rod

@@JCATG 👍
If you were in the audio industry back in the 80s, and or an avid audio guru at the time, you would know that Nakamichi had a cassette deck called the Dragon. Their direct competition, which I feel was a better cassette deck. was the Aiwa F990. I sold and used both back then and had the Aiwa in my Home System.
I clicked on this expecting a "vintage review" of that deck.
The only cassette deck I can remember sounding better than the Dragon was the Revox.
Cool that you were unboxing a dragon with a dragon wallpaper on your tv.....cool touch 😎😎
If anything this video confirms is that Caleb is THE RIZZLER!
Please don’t take too long for the full review!🙌🏻
One week!
Thanks
@@Caleb_Denison Great, thank you!! 🙌🏻
All 500 units will say “1 OF 500 LIMITED EDITION”. They wont be labelled “2 of 500” or “499 of 500”. This wording is intended to mean this is “one of the 500 limited editions”
I personally think this is a great value for how advanced the system is.
Value is relative.
It ISN'T tied to the cheapest price or the most bang for the buck product.

Very excited for the full review!
Or just wall mount the TV. That would be the easiest thing to do. This thing is a monster. Love it.
Thanks for unboxing, would be great to hear the actual (near equivalent) sound demos from time to time between full reviews if possible.
Thank you for your review! Have a nice day!
After seeing what was in the box, yes that is a fitting name for it.
Built a whole entertainment unit for the dragon, almost completed. Just need the system delivered and life will be good!
Can’t wait for mine to arrive. This will be going in my bedroom. Thinking of pairing it with the 98” qm8
Wow U got a nice set up especially for a bedroom. I only have a Sony 65'er but a nice Pioneer Elite DVD player and my PC tower is hooked up to my tv so everything on the internet looks simply marvelous, especially the new 'SlapFighting" on UA-cam.
It's funny I was thinking the same way. However, I am still questioning the reliability and durability of the 98" QM8 though.
Waiting with baited breath for the full review. My question is this just a Demo unit or will this maybe be given away in the future. I really believe this will be the sound system to beat even for just music listening.
I think your pretty spot on user-mn2c94628491 It sounds like he is going to return this unit to Naka after testing and reviewing the unit. (not sure)

Erin's audio corner needs to get a hold of one of these
They should include a complimentary Nakamichi back brace. Was concerned Caleb was going to get a hernia lifting that sub out. 😅
The dragon references are extremely dad and extremely on point 😂
Dude… This thing is effing EPIC! Please excuse my seemingly teenage comment but my goodness! What an absolute unit! This is the definition of waiting with bated breath. Cannot wait for the review!
I ordered one of the first 500. I was hoping for the first one but noooooo. Hopefully it will show up soon. I think the remote also has a gold plate too
As an HT-A7000 owner I'm super curious and excited for the upcoming review.
Serial number 01 - that alone puts DT and Caleb in S-tier status. So cool!
Caleb will let us know shortly.
Can’t wait to see full review
Wow can remember the dragon series back in the late 70's early 80's and it was grand back then, not in my price realm though.
Woooooo hooooooo 1st unboxing and 1out of 500❤
Plz release review fast🙏🏽
Have mine ordered cannot wait!!
@@Mr.HotRod Thanks for the information.
Given the price, I was expecting a longer warranty.
@@terrym540 Your very VVVVVellcme. 👍
I hate these unboxing videos because it’s a giant tease. I love to hate these kinds of videos. I just want more of this in a video. Just make a constant stream of videos about just this system. Drop a daily video of how blown away you are to help me with my fix. 😂
