Hi! My name is Tom Buck, a lifelong A/V nerd and former high school Digital Media teacher. I started this channel in 2017 as a project to share my enthusiasm for everything related to audio and video production.

Last comment, I promise. I always recommend the Sony ZV-E10, and every time I use it, I'm like wow, this is a dope camera. Here's a weird rant/fact: EVERY client I’ve built a studio for makes six figures or above and owns multiple properties, but they won’t spend more than $799.25 on a camera. It drives me nuts
Hi Tom, I'm intrigued by your lighting setup, particularly the combination of 4600K white balance on camera with 5600K lights. I'd love to dive deeper into your FX-3 settings to better understand how you achieve your signature look. Could you share more details about:
* ISO setting
* Aperture used at 24mm
* Shutter speed
* Picture profile or color settings
Additionally, I'm curious about your lighting:
a) Are your lamps set to full power?
b) If not, what percentage or intensity do you typically use?
Your videos consistently have a vibrant, well-lit, and cheerful look without appearing flat. I especially appreciate how you make the background pop while maintaining focus on the subject. I'm aiming to achieve a similar aesthetic in my own work.
Any insights into your process would be incredibly helpful. Thanks for continuing to share your expertise with the community!
Hey! Thanks so much for the kind words! Here are my typical settings, but they do change sometimes:
•ISO 100 when using PPOFF and 800 with ND filter when using slog. I try to expose at +.7
•Aperture 1.4 because I love it!
•Shutter speed 1/50 at 24fps
•Mentioned it above, but usually I use PPOFF and then adjust the colors/add my preset in Final Cut. I've been experimenting with slog more lately though just for fun.
•My key light is 200 watts and typically at about 40% and reflecting up into the ceiling.

@43:35 You're not alone! The Apple Store has been strange lately. I used to get easy replacements for AirPods and phones, even without AppleCare. They once replaced my iMac when the hinge stopped hinging😅 But recently, when my wife’s Apple Watch back adhesive failed, they said they couldn’t help. We tried strong glue, but the watch's heat kept loosening it. They told us to get a new one 😂
Sales targets must be tight right now 😂

So funny what you were saying about how the Apple Store has changed. I worked there in 2013 when I quit to start my company and I saw that change starting to happen. Everyone needed an appointment, if you didn't have one, good luck, come back when you have one. I couldn't agree with turning people away who needed help - their whole life was on their phones (by Apple's doing) and they couldn't help them? Yea.
P.S. I have a CRN500 and haven't installed the auto tracking yet but Canon sent me the CRN700 with tracking and it was REALLY cool.
I feel like you definitely have the helpful "old school Apple" personality (which I mean as a huge compliment).
I definitely get that they need appointments for tech support, but we've been turned away when we just need to buy something small-ish off the shelf because we didn't have an appointment. I just needed a watch band man!

Hi Tom, I learn so much from your videos. I watch as many as possible. I have a problem that others may also have. My USB C ports on my computer motherboard won't allow me to run both the Elgato Facecam Pro and Prompter. Is there a powered hub that you can recommend or are there any adapters? I recently put a USB C card into my MB but that only solved 1/2 the problem. Have you or are you going to make a video on the Elgato Streamer Plus? Thanks, Lenny

Bit jealous, everytime your mention a camera it's circa 2k new! You've mentioned 3 so far.
Sony ZV-E10! $800 with a lens!
It was very interesting to see the a7x cropped onto the 16mm lens and compared to the full frame 24mm. Please could you repeat similar comparisons when you test out the ZV-10. Everyone else (even on camera channels) talks about FF vs APS-C but very rarely show it side by side. I think a lot of us noobs would find it very useful. It would also be good to see the cropped A7x vs the ZV-10 and if the images really match.
Re your comment on cheaper cameras, I'm leaning to the idea of grabbing a used Sony as an economy step into the eco system. A5100/A6000. Especially if using it in a desk + talking head setup many of the advances (even in AF) are hopefully of lesser importance.
Alternatively - your viewers will be pleased to hear - the original ZV-E10 is popping up new with discounts right now since the version II (2) is actually out. Eg. It's £499 body only on a few sellers today! (it was £599 recently, used to be as much as £679). That's about same as used - excellent or as new.
Just got myself a fifine sc3 its a cheap mixer but it does what I want and powers my rode podmic usb easily
