Turned out a lot better than "pretty good" in my opinion - looks very professional! Suppose the only thing you could have improved on is the use of material - but if you were a professional, you could easily use on another job. Hope you do some follow up videos in the future on how the job/material is holding up - real curious about how well it stands up to dog use.
When you lay the turf down, the blades will be pointing a certain direction because when they roll it - it gets pushed down sideways. You have to orient the turf so that when you are looking at it from the predominant area you will be viewing it - that the blades “point” toward you. The blades will never stand straight up (to make them “neutral” in their direction- or non-directional). They can reduce this effect by not rolling it as tight. Also it’s better if it’s rolled starting from the shortest edge. In my case, they did neither. Best you can do is brush it with a push broom on a warm day and then leave it alone for a while to settle. Do that regularly and it will help keep the blades more upright. As far as gaps go - it was very hot during actual turf lay down days so I didn’t need a half inch gap due to expansion and I stretched it best I could at that time. You need to make sure you plan ahead & try to install on a hot day to avoid bunching or contraction that will cause seams to come apart too much. If you make gaps on a hot day- your gaps will be too big. If you lay it down on a cold day, you’ll likely get some wrinkles.
Looks amazing!! You gave me confidence in taking on this project for my back yard. The amount of grass you used including your scraps is about how much I need for mine. If you dont mind me asking, about how much did it cost you for just the grass?
how to take care for this grass? is heavy rain make any problems with flooding or not? how to clean it when dirty? what if will drop oily food from grill - sausage, butter, oil? can stand on it heavy objects? how it looks like when we remove heave objects from it?
I wouldn’t grill on it. I would only allow dogs or cats on it. It’s not something that you’re going to want to put a lot of wear and tear on. There’s plenty of info out there on Google about how to take care of it.
Would you still recommend doing this? I'm strongly considering putting this under my pergola coming out of my back door instead of concrete. I'm worried cause I've heard the smell can be bad from pets
I wouldn’t install it up to the back door. I’d have a concrete pad that close. But we love the turf. Way cleaner than grass - especially with a dog and lots of rain.
Great job. Don’t sell yourself short. Looks professional to me. 💪
Appreciate the compliment!
You are really diy.I learn a lot. This is the best video I have seen .

Hey Paul, I really appreciate the feedback! I will update on how it’s holding up. Thanks much.
What do you mean by "they rolled it wrong" and what you did to fix they issue? Also did you a .5" gap so it's lower than the edge?

Honestly don’t remember. I think it was between $3.75-$4.00 SF. Probably around $1800 I think.

Excellent job, thank you for sharing! How long did it take to complete this project?
I think about 3 or 4 days.
Hi, great video! Can you share the name of the gravel/sand you added before laying the turf?
5/8 minus crushed rock and just plain old sand compacted.
Awsome
Thanks!

How much did this whole project cost? How much did the artificial turf cost total? Thanks
Been a while - but I believe it was $4,500-$5,000. Quotes in the area were about $10k.
Where did you get the turf from ?
Ewing Outdoor Supply in Vancouver, WA
😂 yea you can tell your not a pro but you did good. Allot of things that a pro would've done that you didn't do or know to do
