These PS5 Accessories & Faceplates Are Getting Creative.. And Underwhelming

- Sony has been pretty slow with rolling out any additional colors for PlayStation 5. We still only have white for the console (if you can even find one) three DualSense colors, and now two headset colors. But the aftermarket for PS5 has been very healthy. We've seen a lot of custom consoles & controllers but the faceplate variations have gotten interesting. I picked up two more of those to look at, alongside these two simple LED mods. After mixing them around with different color combos, here's what I think. Also, Melissa (my cat) thoroughly enjoyed all the trash from the packaging. She slept on a piece of paper for 10 hours straight. Gnarly.

the gold looks like a old white console that color faded out for all the grime through out the years

@@MoviesNGames007uk Yes, the aged Super NES yellow/brown. That discoloration is actually created from a fire-retardant chemical that was in the plastic of the Super NES.
Doesn't age well and very hard to clean up.

The fan LED showing through the plates, looks like a loading screen when it’s animated. A contrast to the console loading so fast lol.

LED Ring + the Frosted plates could look SIIIICK! Make it happen Ryan!
I would love to see the ring used with transparent-frosted side panels so the individual LEDs weren't so obvious and the light could be blurred through the whole panel.

I think it would be difficult. The ring of LEDs were visible through the solid color replacement panels. I think there needs to be an additional defuser in addition to a frosted side panel.

That is exactly what i said when i got mine in the mail a few months back. Def a sad unboxing. I called it chain smoker yellow, till i painted it up real nice. It is actually a good plate to buy for if someone wants to personalize and customize their own plate.

I just ordered my black faceplate and I can’t wait to equip it on my PlayStation 5 but man! I’m glad people are doing Sony’s job at providing us with customizing
Back when the 360 used to make custom faceplates and crazy custom consoles was so awesome. It’s a shame Sony never really gets into the customisation as much as the competition does.
@@pepelaugh6404 I mean its a matter of time at this point. I can see them uploading a video on official custom plates end of the year but if they don’t then they’re missing out on a huge opportunity. I just hope we don’t get plain full colors but actually see designs on the plates

Hey Ryan! I think it's so cool of you to take the time to switch out all of those plates for us. It's nice getting a visual of the many different colors out there. Question, do you plan to get the D-Brand Dark Plates? I finally broke down and purchased a set and await their arrival. From what I understand they are made very well and even weighs a bit more than the official plates. I plan to use those until (hopefully) Sony releases some official plates. Oh and of the ones shown in this vid, I think the clear is my favorite. I personally wouldn't display my PS5 that way but it looked pretty cool.

If you want to block the lights form leaking through the after market plates, you could try to apply some "Aluminum Tape/Aluminum Foil Tape" to the inside as a light block. It will also help to reflect the lights more as well.
I've had the DBrand dark plates for months and love em.
Those clear plates might be really good for people to paint and customize them themselves. Might consider that myself
I think getting a plate that has a clear circle for the fans but coloured everywhere else. The led circles would be pretty nice

Black plates with a wood skin looks awesome and it just blends into my living room.

The molded area you mentioned are called ribs. We add those in certain locations to help with dimensional aspects. Keeps the plates from worping.
I love the design of the PS5. Looks almost alien. The color is perfect. Every other color kinda ruins it for me, but I still appreciate the fact that they gave us the option, whether intentional or not.

I did the red lights around the fan, then on the interior of the ps Face plate I glued aluminum foil about 1/2 inch wider than the rings and it keeps the lights from shining through the face plates and reflects the light brighter where the ps5 led's shine out by the vents. Cheap and effective.
I've just received my ring and clean plates... can't wait to put it together tonight... already got the colour stripes for the led in front in double rainbow..... going to look nice i think
My setup would be RGB ring and clear plates but I would scuff and prep the outside and paint it white, then black. you'd get the reflective properties of the white, the light would carry to the edges, and the outside would just look stealth mode.
The LED bleeding through the face plate actually looks pretty cool imo.

I see your BladeHQ exclusive Bugout there! Very nice! I didn't manage to get one of those exclusive models unfortunatley, however I did get a Bugout in blue G10, also with 20CV steel. I absolutley love it. Since I've gotten the Bugout, I've officially become a Benchmade guy lool. It was awesome to catch that in your intro.
Do you have any other Benchmades? In a few years I'm considering getting a 940 Osborne.
It would be so much better if the PS5 light changed colors. Would be so much better to customize and match with the faceplates. Maybe even similar to the PS3 xmb colors
And it would be so easy for Sony to add that customization
I think HW wise it can change since it already can make itself blue,white,orange an red if it overheats.It mostly depends on Sony to let you change it in software
The light stickers and logo stickers are pretty cool and of course the Darkplates, but best mod is the Sabrent ssd cover heatsink that is coming out at the end of this month. Not a fan of to much rgb I like a more stealth look with minimal lighting effects. Toasty has prob the best light stickers that ive seen.
What always catches my eye in your vids that I love the most and its not the tech but the PS Skateboard on the back wall 😁
Damn, I love the clear plates! I've always loved transparent console stuff. I'm waiting until we get a transparent DualSense....I've had one for every PlayStation, so definitely want to keep that going.
I really wish Sony would get on to selling custom plates themselves...there's a definite market for it, Sony going with White on the PS5 has really created interest for people to want to make it literally any other color. Third party just never has the PS logo, or the tiny Triangle, Circle, X, Square design that's become synonymous with the PS5 now. It's the big reason I refuse to pay the prices for them...I have a thing with it not feeling official. Like it doesn't matter in the long run...but I'll always know.
I completely get you. I finally purchased the D-Brand Dark Plates but for the longest time I refused to do so due to the lack of the PS emblem. I really hope Sony would produce official plates but I have this sinking feeling they won't. At most I see Sony doing a black PS5 but no separate plates. I do hope I'm wrong. I remember the plates they did for the original PS4. They only did two plates.. TWO! The PS4 was out for some time but they only gave us two plates. (sigh) Fingers crossed they make official plates.
@@genefactor007 Looks like you're in luck - Sony just announced official plates, and in a bunch of colors too. Red, black, blue, purple, and pink. I picked up some third party black ones myself as I felt the official ones are far too expensive ($55!) for two hunks of plastic.
@@Haktuar Hey, Heartsbane! You know I was really pumped when I saw Sony finally released the official ones. I did pre-order the midnight black in spite of having a pair of D-Brand Dark Plates (1.0) on my PS5. I'm also considering the red one as well. :)

@@Haktuar The quality are insane! So, so good. Very thick. I'd go so far as to say the quality is on par if not better than the official plates. No seams or anything like that. I do like them. I'm just getting the Sony plates because I wanted the PS cutout; I wanted the more 'official' look.
Last week for the first time here in argentina, i found a seller of a black faceplate and i bought it instantly. No regrets looks perfect and it should have been like that.

the clear with the RGB is pretty freakin sweet. I'm not into RGB enough to do this, but that's definitely the coolest one - especially if your setup has a ton of rgb.

That gold one reminds me of kitchen appliances of the 70s. Harvest gold was the name. Now we need an avocado green version.
I did the lights stickers for the rainbow RGB look early on. The only other thing I did was put a 14" tall blue crusader knight vinyl decal on the front side. I am on the fence about getting any plates at this point. I am looking forward to see what else these vendors will come out with in the future.

The Ring light when it's blue looks just like the seconds leading up to the PS5's full design reveal, where the blue lights blink through the vents!
Ordered them at Walmart for 18 just for that effect. I may even do solid breathing red

I really really really like the transparent one. My PS5 is behind my tv so you can't see it, so I wouldn't bother with a face plate but if i ever have it some where else I will be very tempted to get one.
As some one that has the Dbrand Dark Plates. They are the best quality made Plates. Plus the detail on them. Moving on I liked those Clear Plates.
The ring light looks really cool, definitely getting this one.
Now that dbrand makes the 2.0 plates with the vents, these LEDs would look amazing!
The led rgb looks good through the vents in the solid plates more so the of white one probably with a black plate it would look ok too but instead of a ring rgb maybe one that goes on the the edges of the console so its not just a ring.

the ssd cover actually causes more heat. have done few heat tests myself. at the end of the day its up to you, keep your system clean and off the carpet with plenty of room!

I really wish when the PS5 is on it has a Blue light on really :( Even in standby I would like it to be Blue to(yep I like Blue) :D Shame we can't select whatever colours we want because that would of been COOL :P Oh well.
Choosing the LED color eventually became an option for the DS4's light bar so maybe via a patch down the road?
