I was so worried when you posted this. I had just got the ts55-keb based on your recommendation. And my initial thought was I acted too soon and they came out with something even better! While this is a great saw in this video, I feel relieved knowing it’s basically the corded version. Which I’m sure might cut faster, but I’m glad I got the battery powered

@@bentswoodworking I’ve been having issues with my makita tracksaw not cutting straight it’s not really made to adjust toe in, track cams not staying tight and now with very little use they have a flat spot worn in already 🙄 the makita tracks are straight but I have to adjust cams on every track because the are all sized different between batches ! it’s time for a upgrade so any conclusions now on cordless anti kick back or riving knife with thin kerf looks like that’s all that’s available now is thin kerf saws

This Festool rail square is surprisingly affordable. The kit is only a bit more expensive than a TSO square.
the TSO kit doesn't allow you to make repeated angled cuts. For a project with our travel van, this feature is useful for making cabinetry that requires special angles to fit the angles of the van interior.
Sawyer Design posted a review the other day on the TS 55F that's also worth watching.
Hi Jason, FEBQ model launched in the UK last year and it's been a joy to use. It's worth saying perhaps is that it doesn't push the Festool TS 55 corded saw format forward much, and is is outclassed by the R series battery version which has the kickback tech embedded. I do like the thinner kerf blade which is long overdue.

Very nice review Jason, very much appreciate it. Have you heard if they also plan on replacing the TS 75 saw (or start making the old one again)? I’m in the market for the track saw but was hoping to get that increased cut depth.

Well you would have an issue trying to use 1.8mm blades on a 75 because the riving knife will still be 2.2 mm

Some constructive criticism… If you can start doing more closeups in your videos that would be great! You tend to talk about buttons and features and things but from more like 6ft away. You started doing some around the 9:30 mark so good job there. Otherwise great job brother!

I was surprised that the Festool teaser videos about this new saw this week had next to no information in them, but thanks to your video I have a much better idea now about the changes. Is the cut quality with this new thin kerf blade just as good? Reason that I ask is one of the Festool videos from this week showed some substantial saw marks left at the end of a cut where it was zoomed in on. I was surprised to see this...

You have said that there is no difference in cut quality between the 2.2mm and 1.8mm blades. In the time you have used the thinner kerf blades, do you see any negatives when using the thin kerf blades compared to the 2.2mm blades?
Just got the festool angle square a few days ago probably be ok for angle cuts ,you can't beat the tso parallel edge rail square for 100% Square cuts with confidence, any thing adjustable will need adjustment. Regards from Ireland 🇮🇪
Between Festool's new angle stop with the extension and the TSO parallel guides, which do you think you'd recommend for repeated cuts? or might you suggest both?
The new tracks are interesting to me since I just switched to side-by-side MFT table setup and might want to get another 1400. Though to be fair I just got the DashBoard and it's not nearly so difficult if I want to remove the track and put it back on and trust that it's true. I'm very pleased with that. (Go watch the Bent's "The ULTIMATE Assembly Table" video if you need to know more. They're a tiny company and it may take a couple months but it's soooooo worth it.)

The new rail square seems like a pretty decent option as well with the single bar parallel guide. It also looks hugely lighter than the two side option Festool had (ignoring the rebranded TSO square).
I don't have much luck with standard two bar parallel guides. They feel like a lot of work for little benefit.
Maybe I'm just terrible with the parallel guides. Tools take practice. But if the rail square/material is actually true, referencing on one side only seems like it would produce the same result as having an extra reference in the middle.
I was just looking for it a week ago, and the accessories are sold out. I guess that i'll have to wait. LOL
Just a heads up, the TS55F was shipping for a few months before the official announcement. So if you're like me and bought it around November, and you have the 1.8mm kerf blade, you have this new one before it was announced. TS55REQ-F-Plus
Great video! Does the guide rail square work with the milwaukee rails?
When they were designing a new guide rail I wish they had made it like the Bosch and Mafel rails with the same style of connecting plate but maybe the new connector bars do a good job of straightening the rails

The track works exactly the same so yes. Just has the added slots. LR 32 you need to have the LR 32 rail

No they did not.
It's because the technology in the cordless relies on the brushless motor technology, and for some reason they are not interested in updating their corded tools to be brushless. They should. A brushless rotex, track saw, domino 500, would all be amazing.

Very interesting video. After your review of the new battery powered TSC I had decided to go that route. Now I am thinking more about the new 55F. I am in shop based so the battery option is not as big to me. In your TSC video, I believe you mentioned you would be going to the TSC full time by replacing the other. Is that still your plan or has this new saw changed your thoughts?

I still love my TSC. But it’s nice that the have a corded option now with the same great blade. I will probably keep a ripping blade in the corded and a crosscut blade in the cordless

Unfortunately I iterally just took delivery of a TS 55 REQ the day before festool announced this one. 😞
So now I'm having to go through the return process so I can get the new version. It's been relatively trouble free, and no cost out of pocket, but I called festool the day I ordered my saw and they made no mention of the new model being announced the next day. Very disappointed in festool over this.
You probably got the TS55REQ-F-Plus which is identical to the saw in this video. They started phasing them in quietly before making the announcement with a new model number. They have the 1.8mm blade and riving knife from the factory.
@@LukePighetti I didn't, sadly. The blade and riving knife on the one I'm sending back are both 2.2mm.
Well at least it wasn’t a terribly difficult process. You will like the saw and it will be worth it.
@@bentswoodworking Oh yeah, I can't wait to get the new saw. The first project It'll be used for is cutting down a couple of hardwood slab desktops. I ordered the rip blade and the universal blade as well.
My disappointment comes from not a single mention of the new saw coming out, which would have benefited festool, because they're footing the bill on the return that wouldn't have been needed had they given me a simple heads up.

Do you plan a review/comparison video of the new rail square vs your Dashboard setup? I have ordered the Dashboard but it is on back order until April. It would be interesting to see if this new setup from Festool would suit my needs. My process is similar to yours in that I make my final cut(s) on the table saw. I seldom have a need for angle cuts-perfect square is more important-but having the ability to cut an angle could be useful.
I do not because the two things don’t really relate to each other. My crosscut setup is very different than using a track square.
Hey Brent, thanks for the video. The information on all the new accessories was really useful and interesting. However, not sure if I missed something but what are all the new features of their new track saw, aside from it just using a thinner blade which you could already use on the existing track saw? (It’s the same width as the Mafell / Bosch by the way). Did you cover those features or did I just miss it?
Using the thinner blade on the existing saw would present a problem because the riving knife is still 2.2 mm. The thinner blade and riving knife is the update.
@@bentswoodworking Ah, I hadn’t thought of that - I mistakenly thought you had said you had been using thinner blades on your existing saw for a while. Out of curiosity how accurate do you think the new variable angle Festool FS-WA angle stop for your track is as compared to either the Festool FS-WA/90 or TSO track squares are? Was really taken with the idea of their new design for the flexibility it brings (especially with the extension to increase the reference surface) and have seen one here for a good price, though let’s face it 95%+ of the time most of us will only need square cuts. So would be interesting to know if this is a compromise on accuracy especially over say a cut on a full length 8x4 sheet compared to a rail square? Would make a good, short video if you are up for doing a comparison? 👍

Great review Jason. While the old corded TS55 was always described as underpowered relative to what the batteries could deliver is your sense that the difference was really just the kerf difference? ie. truly comparable performance now between corded and non?

If you had to choose for a starting woodworker to buy this kit or the saw stop portable table saw (because they are similar in price) what would you buy if you were to only have one in your shop
So will you be keeping your TSC 55K or the new TS 55F? I originally wanted a plug in model but they didn’t have the F out in the states. Now I don’t know if I would give up the ability to size some sheet goods at the lumber yard with my 55K

Tracks was is a really versatile tool
I just got this and it is great. The only thing that was disappointed with was that the power cables from my other Festool tools (Domino, Sander, etc) doesn't fit. The connector is slightly different.

It's all good new & improved stuff, and I appreciate that, but I'd have been even happier if Festool had announced they'd finally changed to a descent adhesive for their plastic guide rail splinter guards. I'm really tried of having to replace them with black ones from the turquoise-colored-tool company. Unlike Festool's, theirs seem to have no problem with coming loose.
huh, I don't have that issue at all. Replaced mine about 8 months ago with the festool stuff and it just sticks. Maybe better clean your rail before applying?
They should copy mafell, and change to a slide in thicker splinter guard. The mafell track joining bar is 100 times better as well.
How much of t hat stuff will work on the existing TS-55? I am guessing the bulk of it will? Can we purchase the new riving knife for the older saw?

Jason, I was late to the party on this one. good review. quick question. How does the new angle stop accessory compare with their old? Perhaps another shootout on the horizon between the New, the Old and the TSO? I have the TSO and love it. But it cant do anything other than 90 degree angles

In your video comparing the previous TS55 and TS75, your conclusion was you would choose the 75 if you had to do it over again. Ignoring the extra cut capacity of the TS75, do you think this new TS55 F would change that decision? Could the thinner kerf cut 8/4 walnut in a single pass?
I think you meant to say my conclusion was the 55. And yes! I cut through 8/4 bubinga in this video in a single pass and it is way harder than walnut
@@bentswoodworking I just saw the video where you compared the TS55 and TS75. Like Matt said, you did indeed conclude that you would get the TS75 if you could only buy 1! You said you’d rather buy the tool that does more vs not enough.

How does this saw compare to the current cordless version? I'm in the market for a festool track saw, I saw that you highly recommend the cordless one. Some say that the cordless version performs better than the corded version.
The cordless did preform better cause it has a thinner blade. Now this new one has the same blades. It comes down more to do you want corded or cordless

Can you give some pros and cons on the festool rail and extension vs tso set up. Obviously the full tso would give more parrellel cuts but would the portability of tge festool be worth it.
The festool wouldn’t be any more portable. The extension wouldn’t hit in a Systainer either
I’ve owned a great many festool items I love their products but why don’t they have a protective case for the straight edges I had one made for mine a little over 8’ long that could be locked and cabled to a gang box on site they make good tools but they need to offer site protection

It’s hard to say yet since I just received it. It’s a very nice square and if you want to use it for angled cuts, this is one of only 2 options.

Anyone compared this to the Mafell yet - it uses thinner kerf blades but never thermals out.

Hard to say as I have just gotten these.
Will you be using the Festool Rail Square or the TSO going forward? If you have a Festool Dust Extractor is there and real reason to go cordless with the Festool Tracksaw?
Just depends on the situation, both work well and get the job done. I'm a little more inclined with the TSO, but that's just a personal preference. There's never a wrong reason to go with a dust extractor. The bag on the TSC fills up quickly, so unless you want to empty it often - best to go with a dust extractor.
Does the TS55 F works with 165mm blades?
So Festool is copying Mafell/Bosch with the 1.8mm blade and self aligning bars?
Can someone tell me what is the difference between Feq-f and Febq?
You said you’d been using the new thin kerf blades for a while. Was that in your old TS55, or did you have the new saw, too? (Really, the question is, can I just buy one of the new blades, and a replacement riving knife, and use that with my old saw?)
You demonstrated that you were using your old rails with the new alignment bars. So, the new bars will work with old rails? How about the reverse? (Again, a compatibility question.)
What about new new adjustable rail square? Can I use that with my old rails?
This is the second or third video about the new TS55 F that I’ve watched where no one comes out and explicitly says, “The rail profile design is unchanged, and your old rails work with the new saw and all of the new rail accessories. Your old saw works with all the new things, too. We got you.” That would be nice to hear someone say, even though it seems certain to be true.
The rail profile is unchanged. The connectors work in all of them. I used the thin kerf blades cause that’s what the cordless saw uses. And I doubt you will be able to retro fit and older saw.
I find narrow kerf blades have a tendency to deflect if one is taking a thin sliver off the edge of a board. I actually prefer a 2.2mm blade in my 36V brushless Makita track saw, 👍🔨🇮🇪

I'm confused. I just got the TS 55 KEB. The unit says KEB on it, but the box says KEB F. You guys are saying this is a "new product", but hasn't this been out since last year?
Do you mean the TSC 55 KEB which is the cordless model? The cordless tracksaw (TSC) with the new blades and anti kickback feature came out in the USA first (last year I think). The corded tracksaw with the new blades is just coming out in the USA this month.

@@bentswoodworking I doubt it because the hooks on the Festool would interfere with the little protrusion on the Makita rail (it's part of Makita's anti-kickback feature)

I feel like this was more of a response to people complaining about low power.
I don’t feel like my ts55req lacks power, but I don’t buy that it’s still cutting dead straight. I have 5 different saws and every single one cuts worse with the thinner blade.
Plus a mortgage to buy one. Same great feature. Lol

Note: I upgraded to 48T Oshlun blade before I made a cut ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxvWxw4589nheZ_QlYwqaZpnQExQfvjV4_ This said, when combined with the Powertec 71153 track, the cut was glass-smooth and as straight as an arrow with no tear out! I was dubious about the kick-back preventer as it is a very simple, plastic device; but, it worked perfectly and is very easy to disengage when necessary. Simple and functional is often the best way of doing anything! Festool can keep its over-priced TS-55 and TS-75! Who needs such a pricey tool when an inexpensive, simple one does the job?! The Bosch guide rail joining system is still quicker and simpler.

So I have the Makita corded track saw , my partner has the Festool corded track saw, ( Same compatible track), My Makita cuts with a thin kerf blade, and is every bit as good as the Festool for a couple of hundred less, there's simply no way to reconcile Festool's prices, Bosch, and Makita offer much better bang for the buck and deliver quailty tools
New blades too thin to sharpen
Thin kerf blades give you the illusion that you have a strong motor. A thin kerf blade lowers the resistance of the blade during the cut and produces much less strain on the motor. The tradeoff is thin kerf blades will dull faster and you can not send them off to resharpen.

When your entire work bench is stocked with Festool products, I’m doubting you can give a bias opinion. Next…..
I will NOT buy another Festool product. I invested heavily in the Vac Sys clamping system, and they discontinued it. I customized my operations and my main bench for this system. This is the answer I received from Festool. "Due to continued supply chain pressure, Festool is permanently phasing out the Vacuum Clamping category." I had follow-up questions and to this date they refuse to answer. NOT the customer service I expect from Festool. They apparently just want me to accept and go away!

Good info to know!! Thank you for sharing and it is definitely worth knowing when your considering investing in someone’s product line and “investing” is exactly what it is because of the membership cost we all have to fork out to be part of the family.
I don’t mind paying for quality at all but I do expect more from that quality than I do from dewalt or Milwaukee etc.

@@bentswoodworking You are one of the reasons I invested in the system. It has changed my workflow. It was innovative and to me solves all the problems of the other systems. You featured the system is a video about 2 years ago. Discontinuing a line and NOT answering my follow-up questions about supporting the future of my system is not a bad experience, it is a reason to walk away.
@@1982MCI Thank you! Membership IS expensive with the Festool line. I have lots of Festool in my shop and spent THOUSANDS of dollars on the Vac System and it is now discontinued! I asked Festool to sell the line to someone else, no response! As well as no response to other questions about how they will or will not support Vac Sys owners.
@@slhasebroock thing is tho that membership is worth every penny if you get the entire system which is tool PLUS support. I’m sure you paid full price but now you only have half the tool! That ain’t right in my book and is definitely worth considering when looking at other possible purchases.
