You know.. the years of dedication and practice to get this TIGHT.. just blows me away how tight they are. Thing is, very often you see bands where its "the job of the drummer" to practice with a metronome, as the guitars are all feeling bla bla and you often see a tight drummer and a loose band.. Im talking famous bands. But this, this intricate music where the guitar and bass are perfectly in sync, all the accents pronounced by the keys and sax, its just incredible. All the instruments are so fucking tight. They've earned this through hard work. Non-musicians wouldnt really care or notices this but fuck me.. this tightness is unreal just listen to the end bit! jeez
I’m glad somebody else understands! I tell people all the time that each version of Dave’s songs are all different because you can pick up on all the intricate sounds and notes they hit.
this is my favorite song he ever wrote, and I've been following him since 1994. This set is priceless. NOt the perfect video. I really wish he would revisit this song. Peace and love critics
Dave is the BEST! in music and in mind....he sings about life ...simple....real....his concert is so perfect and alive and amazing...never been to a better concert!!!! yes, a god and has a world of followers ~~~ =)
One of my favorite parts in any music ever is 1:58, just as he says ‘tripping billy’ and Carter, the bassist and entire band come out of that beat and into the new one.. difficult to explain but man it feels amazing!
This covid is killing me it's taking years of concerts away from me and that's alot cause I can only go to 2 a year and dmb doesn't have that many left.
Brian is right. This is Boyd's song. He TORE IT UP in New Jersey night before last. Highlight of the entire night. (But Carter and Stefan rock that song too)
I recommend listening with Sennheiser PX100's (about $55 American) or equivalent to hear Carter's bass drum and Stephan's bass guitar. It makes a difference. Plenty of bass, smooth sound. Check out recommendations on Amazon, you'll see what i mean.
@owmyleg lol I learned this song and I can't even play the guitar... and I'm pretty sure I'll never learn to hit the drums like that, even if I knew how to play drums. Dave's guitar isn't complicated. It's actually pretty simple, but nobody ever thought of doing the things he does on guitar... that's why he's such a genius...
@Kmann2202 if you interested on Carter's beat, there is a tutorial here on youtube starring himself! and if you look closely...on some part he'll grow a third and fourth arm while playing this beat that's why he's sooo good...LoL
@owmyleg from a songwriter view i'd agree.. from a grade of technical complication i'd rather wouldn't.. like dweezilsome aleready said.. i'd like to see a battle between weckl and carter..;)
I thought tripping billies means running from the cops in south africa when they caught him doing drugs on the beach. The band is from virginia but Dave is from south africa.
Haha, the reaction I expected from you. It's just ironic. Chill out dude. I, along with probably everyone else that watches this video, is wondering how you can have such a temper while listening to this song.
Probably my favorite version of Tripping Billies, great song!
Still the best version of this song, hands down!
Boyd Tinsley on the violin! So much passion in that statement. Love the good old days of this band!
Best Trippin Billies right here.
an incredible song, the joy in the crowd is just over the top. ther triple beats is just beyond words. what a great song

You are spot on

As a lover of Irish music, glad to see a fiddler in this group. We love fiddlers, Boyd must have some Irish blood. They are all good musicians.
All who like this video will miss DMB being on tour in 2011.
I'm Irish American. We love a band with a fiddle. Keep on rockin' Boyd.
this was on the hard rock radio station in indy today, seemed out of place but Dave Matthews is awesome!

everyone is always talking about carter's drumming, if they only knew how complicated dave's guitar is
Brian is right. This is Boyd's song. He TORE IT UP in New Jersey night before last. Highlight of the entire night. (But Carter and Stefan rock that song too)

that’s the shit right there!
@Kmann2202
if you interested on Carter's beat, there is a tutorial here on youtube starring himself! and if you look closely...on some part he'll grow a third and fourth arm while playing this beat that's why he's sooo good...LoL
@topsyturvyity As long as you still have a sax to define the hits, I think it could work.
Terrible Genios!!! Carter el alma de DMB
Does no one notice that they digitally adjusted dave's voice pitch?
Boyd Tinsley=epic
Keith Moon is up there
@owmyleg from a songwriter view i'd agree..
from a grade of technical complication i'd rather wouldn't..
like dweezilsome aleready said..
i'd like to see a battle between weckl and carter..;)
Dude I am 16 years old and I fucking Love this song ! :D :D
Wow now you’re 29 yo! Crazy
do you guys think a cover of this song would still be good even without a violin?
I'm not sure I have ever seen carter's forearms lol
what concert is this?
I get so mad when I see this because it just says how great DMB was...and how far they've fallen.
The Gorge, 2002
@colubano0306 no you're kidding ah well still R.I.P. leroy brown
@lachina128 amen
Year ? Venue ?
I thought tripping billies means running from the cops in south africa when they caught him doing drugs on the beach. The band is from virginia but Dave is from south africa.
Is that Leroi Moore on sax?
whats carter rated?? i mean like ranks of best drummers??

Ultimate white mans music.
Next to Hootie & The Blowfish, I agree.
'cause he got tired of running
in my opinion, carter is the best drummer in the world!!
@topsyturvyity no
ao invés de ir embora, que tal fazer a sua parte por uma música melhor?toque guitarra ou baixo, eu toco bateria...
