  • The AT4 is a Swedish 84 mm unguided, man-portable, single-shot, disposable, recoilless smoothbore anti-tank weapon developed by Saab Bofors Dynamics. Saab has had considerable sales success with the AT4, making it one of the most extensively used light anti-tank weapons in the world. The AT4 is designed to allow infantry troops a means to destroy or disable armoured vehicles and fortifications. Although it is generally ineffective against current modern main battle tanks (MBTs), especially those with reactive armour. The name AT4 is a word play on the 84 mm caliber of the weapon, 'eighty-four' being a homophone of 'A-T-4'. The name also doubles as an alpha-phonetic word play on the weapon's role due to "AT" being a common military abbreviation for "Anti-Tank". It was also created for export purposes as the nickname "eighty-four" already was a common English nickname for the Carl Gustaf 8.4cm recoilless rifle after its caliber.

The good old AT-4. Effective against light AFVs and weak points on MBTs.

And the AT4 still brings the pain in 2022. It's hard to beat a well designed arm.

We made 569000 AT-4's at JAAP in Illinois. Went to Sweden to learn how to manufacture.

At4 is one nasty litte thing. It can handle T64s and all sorts of IFVs.
Here's the swedish Names for Antitank and AA
    M18 ( M4 ) /M48 ( CG ) /M86( AT4 )/RBS-57 ( Nlaw )
    RBS-15/ Bamse ( RBS -23) /Robot 70 (RBS-70) /Robot 90 (RBS-90 )

The AT4 is not a "missile" anything, since there's no rocket engine, and it's unguided.
It's a single-shot gun(and not a rifle since it isn't rifled), firing what is essentially a cannon round of 84mm(hence the name, A-T-Four=84).

Seems like the MATADOR is meant to provide with it's versions, munitions and add-ons a sliding scale of low-cost, disposable AT weapons, from a slightly improved AT4 to configurations that are quite similar to the NLAW, minus the top-attack mode.

      Skarpt kompis

3:59 "The AT4 can penetrate armour up to 16 inches thick" ?(!?)
2:15 First reason why the AT4 can destroy tanks: "It's been in use with numerous ccountries." How does that affect it's ability to destroy tanks?

Totally depends on which ammunition you are using, in general the Grg (Carl Gustaf) is the preferred weapon compared with the AT4!

The RPG-7 costs 4,000 dollars per unit without ammo and an AT4 is 1,000 dollars. But ngl id rather shoot an rpg unless i have 4 at4’s to shoot
