- On Monday [17 Jan 2022] it was announced that the UK would send Ukraine several shipments of light anti-armour weapons. The weapons were taken from the British Army's stock of NLAW or Next Generation Anti-Tank Weapon. In this video we'll take a look at the situation that led to the shipments and at the weapon itself and how it works.

New video looking at Javelin in Ukraine is out now: ua-cam.com/video/FbO1cfHQT1c/v-deo.html
In Ukraine the instructions on how to use NLAW is top trending content on Facebook and Instagram. Amazingly you can fit a comprehensive instruction on how to shoot a tank with NLAW in like 10 pictures with arrows and subtitles.
I'd love to see that
Social media finally proving its worth!
The simplest weapons are always the best, soldier proof!
Ikea Rocket Launcher.
@@Treblaine damn, you beat me to it! ;)
During my military service I was lucky enough to shoot this bad boy but also the unlucky one who had to carry it.
Tecnically the max range for the weapon is 1000 meters. Our anti-tank team even managed to hit targets up to 800 meters in the simulation world. However I propably wouldn't risk wasting the missile past the effective range of 400-600 meters in the real world.
The weapon has almost zero backblast making it posible to shoot safely at indoors. Very handy feature in urban warfare and real nightmare for tankers.
The question is can it destroy a train
Trains are EXTREMELY amoured even more amoured then the most amored tank in the world equipped with weapons is the most devastating vehicle that can carry and push anything in it's way tested to take one nuke under harsh conditions as well wich is y its very good for cold and extremely hot conditions due to its thick outer core it can tow up to 150,000 tons and explode a tank just by running it over just about any tank to be exact
@@adhd_with_pennies4867 take out the tracks at least that will slow the advance are range it needs to get too
Good Job, and thank for your service!
@@adhd_with_pennies4867 Dude. You can "destroy" a train with a crowbar or a Tree log on top of the cables. Trains and bridges are useless in a modern War. Unless you have control of the entire Infrastructure.
@@adhd_with_pennies4867 trains might be heavy but they're not "armoured" in the same way a tank would be because they generally don't get rockets fired at them do they! 😂
They seem to have been tested quite successfully in combat over the last week.

Its been crazy to watch Javelins and NLAWs become a worldwide symbol. Sort of like what happened with the Stinger in Afghanistan

Good luck and stay safe. You are a guardian of Europe.
I appreciated the way they handled the guidance/targeting aspect. Simple, elegant, capable.
Probably not the most accurate, as predictive systems can't account for evasive actions like changing speed or direction unless they added some other cool feature to account for that. Still should be perfect for Ukraine as they don't have the time or resources to field something like a javalin in large numbers.
Yeah that's the limitation of the PLOS system, the positive is its cheaper and simpler.
@@Ashitaka255 Agreed. I would think this predictive guidance scheme would be limited to short range systems only, as range introduces multiple variables such as windage, target course and speed, even air density etc that would rapidly degrade hit probability over a given distance.
@@Foresight-yy1ec I'm more impressed by the missile's apparent ability to guide itself to just above the target and fire a projectile dowards. That's absolutely mental.
@@Ashitaka255 Better to have something to kill armour targets than nothing at all.
Germany decided some minutes ago to also deliver anti tank and anti aircraft weapons! I hope these will stay in the right hands and help Ukraine to stop the war. Better late than never…
Germans have sent a few thousand Stingers - the same launcher the CIA provided to the Taliban to destroy Russian gunships.
The Germans have not sent any Stingers as of yet, they have promised today 500 Stingers, along with 1000 Panzerfaust 3s.
So Germany is buying energy from Russia to build weapons to give to Ukrainians to kill Russians. Makes sense.
Russia is getting paid by Germany for natural gas. Russia uses that money to wage wars on the West and murder Ukrainians.
The only way to stop the war is by not sending more arms.
Sad that Saab no longer manufacture my beloved 9-3, but happy that they're still building kick-ass weapons platforms. Oddly enough my previous car was also from a company that used to make potent battlefield weapons (Skoda, who used to specialize in artillery pieces).
Thanks for help! Ukrainian people will never forget this support.

@@PatTheRiot Have you learnt English in rural Russia? 😎
What support ? Watch the video Ivan, this thing is being used on targets like stationary helicopters & Tanks without ERA, which greatly mitigates damage from HE contact. The top of a Russian T-90 tank is covered with such armor defense, so even if this thing came flying directly a top, it most likely wouldn't knockout the tank. Good video, more accurate than others on UA-cam. The NLAW is proving to be a game-changer, especially in the hands of Light Infantry, and Britain has been more involved with its development and manufacturing than it's given credit for.
Man, anyone who would engage a MBT at 20m with one of these things doesn't need a rocket- I imagine they could knock the tank out just by swinging their giant brass balls at it.

I feel like we're given the wrong impression from video games of anti-tank weapons or explosives in general. We expect there to be a massive explosion and complete destruction of the target. In reality, these weapons are designed to disable and put the tank out of commission, not complete destruction.
Absolutely, video games typically show massive Cook offs of stored ammunition and while that's very possible (depending on tank and where you hit the vehicle) it isn't always the case. It's less common now given most light AT weapons are HEAT rather than HESH based too.
They also gloss the horror of bodies being pulled out of penetrator jet holes when over pressure occurs. Any shaped charge designed to off a tank will mortally wound crewmen inside usually graphically. A nice plus for infantry witnessing the track kill. Also high temp molten jets will burn all inside to some degree.

I also hope we send the mighty Carl Gustav M4 recoilless rifle, then you will give the russian infantry devastating blows with shrapnel ammunition!
I also heard that your president wanted us to send night vision sights. Hope you get a bunch of those.
Ukrianian friends let our weapons serve you well! Much love from Sweden!
Have you seen the new UK/Swedish fighter jet being developed? It's unbelievable. It's called Tempest.
@@Ididnothingwrong-dx5hn Swedish Gripen E is currently the newest and most advanced fighter in production.
@@Ididnothingwrong-dx5hn Yep, seen it. But also our new submarine the A26, that will be the most advanced stealth submarine in the world when it's released in 2027.
It will be able to send out drones! Underwater drones that will be packed with explosives!
Imagine that, don't need torpedos anymore (but it will have torpedos as well of course, but you get my point), and these drones will be remote controlled. You can sneak up to the enemy ship and then hit the detonate button and then kaaboom! It will be awesome! .. ;)
How do Swedes feel about Putins threat of consequences if Sweden joins NATO?
@@gepwxaqdfsidsesg1548 He can suck it. We laugh in his face and mock his empty threats.
- Because, if we join, Putin can't do shit because Russia will then be at war with the whole of NATO... Obviously.
My Dad may be 87 but right now he feels 55 in charge of his Mech. Inf. Bat. waiting for the WARSAW PAC to make the first strike. This scenario has played out in war rooms from the 1950's until the early 1990's. This could be Putin's Kursk.
Tactical nukes will solve the Ukrainian problem quickly!
Oh don't try intervene, not worth it.
Are Americans willing to die by the millions for Kiev?
*May* maybe not :)
Dont hope for war too much, we will wipe you all out before we go.

@@zuttlan4050 not gay like you.
@@user-sf5jc1tv1l 100% agree.
Requiring less training to use will certainly help get this into action faster.
A bit expensive grill lighter, but matches the grill well.
Imagine the galls required to launch close to tanks. Mad lads these anti-tank units.
Its very good as a city defense weapon. Easy to use, cheap enough to distribute in large quantities and will force an enemy to clear every building with infantry before being able to move in with armor.
I think this system can be fired from inside a bunker or room as it has a feature that minimize the blowback.
It can. Its soft launch, minimum concussion.
Correct.
