That was me until yesterday. Have you tried the Orbit H2O 6 sprinkler? I bought one recently. Bought 2 more today. It's like golf course pro heads. It puts out equal amounts from the head out to 45 feet. Has 6 different patterns and is so smooth. It's gear driven but it's pretty awesome.

One very important thing I think you should mention, MORE important than length or frequency, is HOW deep that water is getting. My opinion is you should always saturate the entire root zone each watering, usually 3-5 inches down. Let it dry out, then water again. For some people that could mean 1/2in water, some more, some less. A soil probe is great for this

Allen, I'm in New Port Richey, FL. I recently installed my dream lawn of St. Augustine about 4 months ago. I developed brown patch shortly after. I have been following your bullet proof recommendations and the lawn recovers for about 2 weeks then goes right back to bloody hell. Would make sense to water in only when I start seeing areas becoming haze-brown? As I learn my lawn, I noticed few areas start to stress sooner, so I could use them to trigger when the lawn is thirsty and proceed with a deep water. This would also avoid overwatering/fungus and would help saving $ on the water bill.
Unpopular view but you could cut back your watering and let it go dormant if your in a drought stricken area.. here in Utah we are in exceptional drought and water conservancy district puts out weekly info on how to keep the grass alive, not thrive. 🤷🏾♂️
@@CITYBORNDESERTBRED Great tip! But only if your lawn is healthy and established. If you're in the process of rehabbing a lawn like I am this will work against you. I'm hoping to be at that point next year. It's looking good so far.

So, I live about 40 miles north of downtown Houston Tx. There are many species of lawn here. Most people who really enjoy having a lush lawn here has a Saint Augustine lawn. Unfortunately most people don’t study how to best care for their lawn. They want a beautiful lawn but don’t want to work for it. We are currently in an Elnino weather condition. We are basically in a dome of heat. Trapped, no new air in or out, no rain and without mention very high humidity. The temperature doesn’t drop below 85F before rising again and hovering between 96F to 100F degrees. The average heat index for the last 15 days has been 103F. With that said…if you where to water your lawn here as suggested by this fellow, in three weeks you would be walking in dirt. We are currently having to water an average of twice a day for 30 minutes. I know this sounds like a lot but remember we have had zero rain for 21 plus days. Faucet water and rain are not the same. I here many of these people talking about what’s the best time? Anytime is a good time, i understand how fungus develops, but this isn’t from watering at night trust me. If it was…during the rainy months our lawns would be emaciated by fungus from the rain at night. You also hear them say don’t rain in the middle of the day…WHAT!!!!! The grass will insure the greatest amount of stress and damage during the highest levels of heat. The ambient temperature of water is always 7 degrees cooler than the air if not more. This is relief for grass being hammered by 100F deg temperatures for over 8 hours a day. If you see your blades of Saint Augustine turn side ways to avoid direct sunlight put the water to it immediately, I don’t care what anyone says. You see Saint Augustine is acutely a vine, it is not like many common grasses that grow and root individually. If the leaf of a Saint Augustine vine turn side ways it unfortunately exposes the vine to direct sunlight. If this occurs for to long it will kill the vine. Most importantly…when the heat is high make dam sure you do not cut the grass to short. Look up the recommended length for your type of grass and adjust your mower deck .50 inches higher.
I like this sprinkler and am thinking of getting one. I wonder if it can shoot as low as 20 ft with all the adjustments. I have some SUPER narrow areas.
I’ve got standing water in my back yard from all the rain in Chicagoland, but I’m sure we’ll be back to drought conditions soon. Haha. Thanks for the great info! 🌞

Scotts makes a fungicide called DiseaseX . Of you have mushrooms do worry about them. If you have fungus Scotts DiseaseX is your best option as a beginner. Use 4lbs /1000 sq ft . Spread it up to 3ft beyond the edge of the fungus.
Allyn I want to say thanks for all the videos. We took a weedy lawn to now some great looking Bermuda. However, we’re still struggling with keeping spurge out of the grass. Do you have any recommendations for liquid or granular for this weed. I try to hand pull in the evenings but it’s everywhere even in the flower beds. Thanks so much.
Allyn, my lawn is struggling in Utah. Temps have been high 90's for about a month with 20% or less humidity and windy. What signs do you look for to tell if you are putting too much water down and overwatering?
Hey Allyn, Great info! Here in upstate NY. It’s been warm but also had some good rain in last few days. Had an issue with fungus and weak root system in my KBG, annual rye/fescue. Applied a fungicide last week. My last fert app was on June 15th. My soil test revealed potassium deficiency so ordered your Stress Blend with 20% potash. Is it okay to apply it now and will it green up my lawn as well? I learned how to water properly thanks to you. Believe I was overwatering early in season which may have contributed to lawn fungus. Thanks again!
Greetings from Strasbourg France . Well last years heat wave destroyed my lawn. But something happened, A neighbor told me I have a well on my property ( house built on top of the well) I found it and drilled into it he cement cp to find a beautiful 150 year old well . 15 ft dry and finally measured 15 ft of water . I installed a Gardena irrigation system and the app once set up into 3 zones , waters the lawn starting at 03;30 in the morning and will alternate multiple times . This was a suggested schedule by gardena , just wondering why it starts at 03;00 and finishes at about 05;30. It does appear to be working . Guess the point is we take off in Sommer on vacation and i cant ask my neighbors to move a sprinkler system around for me . So this was the best option ever .
Hi Alan, Is okay to water the lawn twice in one session? I ask this due excessive water run off. Also does the impact sprinkler reach places the inground system not reach? i have 4 zones setup to 15 minutes twice a week I'm curious cause it looks cool and if helpful I want to start using impact sprinkler system I have st augustine in south texas.
Have a question about the tuna can gauge. Wont the size of the can, cup, bowl change how long is takes to fill a 1/2"? So is that really an accurate way to determine how long it takes to put down .5" of water?
i bought some rain guages this year to see what my sprinklers are putting out, and i leave one out in a bed for rain so i know how much rain we got. between mowing tall and only watering 2 or 3 times a week, or not at all if we get enough rain, may lawn is looking pretty strong. in the past i watered too frequently which i think contributed to disease.
I live in Southern California and our temps get to triple digits in the summer. I find myself watering nearly everyday even though I know it’s not ideal. Only way to keep it green.
Nice video content! I have the exact same sprinkler that you have. I obviously have lower water pressure than you. Mine doesn't spray as rapid as yours.
Hey Im in SWFL and just had Floratam sod put down Jul 3rd. Just wanted your professional advice if I need/should do anything other than watering it for now. I purchased your warm season turf program but it seems to be for established lawns, nothing about new sod. Thanks in advance.
Good info. Thanks. I’m probably guilty of watering a day or two too much here in Melbourne FL. At the mercy of town reclaimed water supply so I have to keep my watering schedule aggressive. But going to cut back a day nonetheless. Have a great 4th of July weekend everyone!
My main concern is always when it’s real hot & humid , I’m always hesitant to water cause I don’t want fungus setting in. Al I usually water every 3 days but with this high heat & humidity my lawn is stressing out even after applying hydratian so my in between day i just try to cool my lawn off in the after noon for 3 to 5 minutes per section , Is that cool or should I water early morning instead when it’s this hot and humid?
Did that move come from Ju Jitzu training? That looked awfully familiar! Hey Allyn, I could've sworn you told me last Friday the Ryobi review would be out last Sun. Dude, I haven't stopped cry'n.
My backyard grass looks like it had brown grass stripes and THIS WAS grass I out down last year as SOD the whole yard, Its very thick and it can grow high but it looks like its browning too much. DO I need Milogranite?
Here's my question I'm in Minnesota and we haven't been getting any rain were like 2.5 inches behind in rain and my grass is burning up and we're on a watering ban so we're on odd and even ban and my Irrigation system is set up to run at 5am what can I do to get rid of my brown spots
@@TheLawnCareNut im gonna do a renovation to mine. Getting rid of Centipede and I want to be able to reel mow if I want. I'm torn between tiff tuff and empire zoysia.
Down here at this time....It's on. The summer storms are here. Yesterday...It poured! So my question is, after this deluge, I guess I need to fertilize again. That sprinkler was fun to have. I had one like that 20 years ago. Not kidding. They are fun to have. Yes....I have an irrigation system but it's good to have a hose end sprinkler for small spots. One more thing...Too much water with this heat, ya might want to hit the lawn with some insecticide and fungicide.
So I have practiced the water plan for several years. This year due to the increasing cost of water I am experimenting with Hydratain. So far so good. That being said if I was watering 1/2 " twice per week before should I water 1/4" twice per week now or go to 1/2 " once a week so it get deeper? (I know "That's what she said")
Do any of you guys in the USA have watering restrictions? I assume not after seeing these lawns. We can only water once a week from 7 to 9 am (so don't go out for drinks and forget) and it's impossible to keep a green lawn.
Paused the video less than a minute in. I’m assuming watering every 3 days is referring to warm season turf? My backyard is my control in NW Oregon, I water it ever 3 days simply to cut down on our water bill (don’t get me started on the taxes that are associated with Mother Nature here). During this heat wave I’ve gone to watering the front twice a day every day. I don’t have an in ground system, so I’m reliant on an orbital timer that only lets me run my water at the same interval (30 mins per section) 3x per day. I run my first set at 4am to soak as much as possible, which just comes short of filling a tuna can. The second set happens at 3pm, just before the hottest part of the day. I usually get about a quarter or less of a tuna can, which I attribute to to evaporation. My question is, am I watering too much? We have extremely hard packed clay in these parts of the country and I’m concerned that if I underwater I’ll turn brown, but I believe I’ve got a significant quackgrass infestation. On top of that, I’ve got a definite sugar ant problem. I picked up the 4 pack of micronutrient concentrate, but want to tackle the main issues before I start bandaiding the entire yard.
Our town allows us to water only once a week, is it possible to have a nice lawn with this type of restriction? Would you water longer if you had this restriction to try and get as much into the ground as possible?
None where I live. We have multiple reservoirs that are re-filled when the mountains melt in the spring. $100 a year to use as much as I want Between mid April and then first week of October. Lot of people here run 2x a day 7 days a week.

I love the sound of an impact sprinkler in the summer. 💧
What grass seeds did u use loving yo lawn color💚💚
Thanks for all your tips! Random question, what sunglasses are you wearing?
Tips for those on well? New house and I'm a little worried about killing my pump if I use it to water my lawn (.75 acres)
Nice video content! I have the exact same sprinkler that you have. I obviously have lower water pressure than you. Mine doesn't spray as rapid as yours.
That is indeed the sound of summer! You just need the music of an ice cream truck coming down the street to complete your summer scene.
That is growing thick and even. Perfectly trimmed and edged. Great job!!! (* the mustache).
Another great video, to the point, yep your lawns looking good, watering in the morning.
Allyn, Thanks for the continued great content! Happy 4th🇺🇸!
I'm in New Hampshire... I water everyday, 3 zones, 20 minutes each zone. Irrigation system...
Hey Im in SWFL and just had Floratam sod put down Jul 3rd. Just wanted your professional advice if I need/should do anything other than watering it for now. I purchased your warm season turf program but it seems to be for established lawns, nothing about new sod. Thanks in advance.
I have a sprinkler system but it's coverage is uneven and I wind up hand watering some of it.
Good info. Thanks.
I’m probably guilty of watering a day or two too much here in Melbourne FL. At the mercy of town reclaimed water supply so I have to keep my watering schedule aggressive. But going to cut back a day nonetheless.
Have a great 4th of July weekend everyone!
What time of day/night is best for watering?
My main concern is always when it’s real hot & humid , I’m always hesitant to water cause I don’t want fungus setting in. Al I usually water every 3 days but with this high heat & humidity my lawn is stressing out even after applying hydratian so my in between day i just try to cool my lawn off in the after noon for 3 to 5 minutes per section , Is that cool or should I water early morning instead when it’s this hot and humid?
OK, how does this translate to seeding bare spots. A quarter inch 3x day?
My same sprinkler broke and I cant find that sold anywhere. Gotta link?
Did that move come from Ju Jitzu training? That looked awfully familiar! Hey Allyn, I could've sworn you told me last Friday the Ryobi review would be out last Sun. Dude, I haven't stopped cry'n.
Nice content, straight to the point 👌🏾!
Really informative video thanks and well done
I'm enjoying thevideos. But can someone tell me what sunglasses LCN is carrying?
Costa Rincon
My backyard grass looks like it had brown grass stripes and THIS WAS grass I out down last year as SOD the whole yard, Its very thick and it can grow high but it looks like its browning too much. DO I need Milogranite?
Just curious, do you have in-ground sprinklers in the narrow strips of grass on the sidewalk?
I have well water so I have to be careful with watering. Question, is the iron in my well water thr type the lawn can use?
Here's my question I'm in Minnesota and we haven't been getting any rain were like 2.5 inches behind in rain and my grass is burning up and we're on a watering ban so we're on odd and even ban and my Irrigation system is set up to run at 5am what can I do to get rid of my brown spots
Knowledge 😁 love it 👍 excellent video bud!
South texas. No shade in my lawn 100+ daily. Water everyday?
Allyn if you had to pick 1 warm season grass what would it be and why?
that's like asking me which one of my kids I like the best. 😂
@@TheLawnCareNut im gonna do a renovation to mine. Getting rid of Centipede and I want to be able to reel mow if I want. I'm torn between tiff tuff and empire zoysia.
@@TheLawnCareNut im leaning towards Bermuda just because of herbicides
Down here at this time....It's on. The summer storms are here. Yesterday...It poured! So my question is, after this deluge, I guess I need to fertilize again. That sprinkler was fun to have. I had one like that 20 years ago. Not kidding. They are fun to have. Yes....I have an irrigation system but it's good to have a hose end sprinkler for small spots. One more thing...Too much water with this heat, ya might want to hit the lawn with some insecticide and fungicide.
I love that sound. Sound of my Youth in the North East.
So I have practiced the water plan for several years. This year due to the increasing cost of water I am experimenting with Hydratain. So far so good. That being said if I was watering 1/2 " twice per week before should I water 1/4" twice per week now or go to 1/2 " once a week so it get deeper? (I know "That's what she said")
That lawn 😍
Do any of you guys in the USA have watering restrictions? I assume not after seeing these lawns. We can only water once a week from 7 to 9 am (so don't go out for drinks and forget) and it's impossible to keep a green lawn.
Is the impact sprinkler lawn dodge a summer Olympic sport?
I dig those Costa shades. What model and lens are those?
they are the Rincon
Our town allows us to water only once a week, is it possible to have a nice lawn with this type of restriction? Would you water longer if you had this restriction to try and get as much into the ground as possible?
Do most.areas not have watering restrictions? Where I'm living in Florida. It's twice a week during daylight savings and once when it's not.
None where I live. We have multiple reservoirs that are re-filled when the mountains melt in the spring. $100 a year to use as much as I want Between mid April and then first week of October. Lot of people here run 2x a day 7 days a week.
That duck and dive to avoid the water though. +10 agility. 😎
short bursts, I'm good. 😀
LNC I bought two of the same gilmour sprinkler you have and seem to have issues with them after the first use and them being really really slow. Have you had any issues with your particular sprinkler from Gilmour?
maybe your water pressure is not high enough?
