Seems ads aren't even PLAYING on this video, so I'm happy that you guys have been so giving in supporting this show through Patreon.
Great video and, from the looks of it, great start for what will be an amazing series. I don't exactly know how you plan on making future videos in this but if you are taking suggestions I'd love to see you take a stab at the Steam game Aragami
Gaijin Goombah Media
1:00
he just successfully used FREAKING MAGIC! and you're more worried about cultural inaccuracy?
Wouldn't be UA-cam if it worked. 😜
Gaijin Goombah Media Do the gold ranger from Power Rangers samurai because looking at his costume design he is most definitely not a samurai. Plus he's able to make himself move faster without using Shadow Jutsu Techniques
Gaijin Goombah Media will you please do more vids on for honor like about nabushi or orochi
I tried googling "ninjas". I got an error message saying "ninjas cannot be found". Well played, ninjas.
I've been trying to research Aragami....I'm starting to think they're even more obscure than Ninjas x_x
I get it
While I understand the desire to let the Shinobi culture die because of it's 'irrelevancy' I also feel those in the Shinobi culture should seek to preserve the culture from an anthropological standpoint to honor their memory and importance.
I think thats what they're doing. Its just the practice thats dying.
It’s also dangerous passing on shinobi culture as it is specifically designed and perfected to break into homes and kill without traces
To be honest, any kind of secret agent or spy in our modern world is the equivalent of a ninja
Alan Rios even though i think that even the practice being lost is a sad thing. If it was not by internet i would never seen a real human being doing those crazy things we are told shinobis did. Is a great part of ancient society history that is dying saddly. One of the craziest things is that everytime someone asked me if one day i would learn a martial art, i aways told that ninjitsu were my goal, to learn how to handle kusagiris, kusarigamas, bo shurikens and kunais would be great, and since most of ninjitsu is based of using what you have at your disposal as a weapon, it would be a great defense tool to have.
@@khoivo7947 your forgetting that the records are readily available, not only that but your forgetting forensics has increased substantially, even if someone tried it's almost impossible to commit the perfect crime. I've actually trying to perfect their way of stepping to reduce creaking even with shoes when stepping. Very useful for getting midnight snacks on particularly long watch sessions when I'm trying to not wake or disturb anyone's sleep. Also, technically I would be too tall and heavy to be considered a 'ninja'. Heck if anything, if you wanted to be a "modern ninja" there are even more resources to be able to do it.
Just for examples:
Martial arts built for taking down an opponent quickly or more long drawn out fights if it ever happens.
Modern weaponry(ninjas when guns showed up to Japan were all about that, modern guns and even resources to make your own guns are around, More balanced throwing knives and tomahawks, lots of places to bury them)
Pepper spray
Parkour(an often thing featured in media with ninjas)
More resources to lose weight and to get stronger.
Flash bangs
Smoke bombs
Easy ways to light fires(matches mainly)
Better chemicals and medical resources for poisoning, lighting fires, incapacitation, distraction, medical resources, etc.
Even more Superstitious things if you believe in them.
Psychology resources.
Pickpocketing.
Spy gear.
Lock picking and resources on how to hack locks.
Technical hacking and those resources.
Larger amount of readily available resources for disguise.
Books on botanicals, mushrooms, edibles and non-edibles, classes that teach all of this, heck there's even this survival app you can get that function without internet.
Resources on tracking and hunting with soaps and things to get rid of scent so ninjas are now not limited on diet as much as they were back then.
And a billion of other things that ninjas would of loved to have way back when. It's literally EASIER to become a ninja today even if people that did the practice themselves die and don't teach to others. It's literally impossible for people to not at the very least be inspired by their practices and wanna learn and teach to others that want it.
Practices almost hardly die, maybe the people that practice them do but the practice themselves usually don't.
5:25 - "There isn't a single time I can think of where a grim reaper character used something like this."
Death from Darksiders 2 would like a word.
This series has taken roughly five months to put together, but I couldn't be more proud of this first episode. Been working with some amazing folks on it, and it's directly supported by great fans just like you guys! Thank you all SO MUCH for giving me the opportunity to do something special!
Gaijin Goombah Media I like it already
Gaijin Goombah Media you should look up Antony Cummins and the Natori ryu.
I love this!
I hope you talk about the ninja-oni some day. The ones controlled by Fujiwara no Chikata.
Gaijin Goombah Media , Your Awesome Gaijin Sensei!!!!!
And Also You're Also Great Too Goomba Sensei!!!!!!
I kinda feel bad for ninjutsu, is a really big thing for just dying to modern times. A tradition of millennia must be kept alive
Maybe the "traditional" ninja's dying out in favor of a more "modern" ninja, not unlike Strider Hiryu?
like Ninja Eugen?
modern ninja A.K.A Special force
I agree.
Yeah but bloodletting and child marriage is even older than that. Old tradition doesn't mean that it is better
Lost knowledge is something that will forever sadden me. All humans are mere vessels carrying their experiences, opinions, skills, and observations. When hundreds, perhaps thousands of years of tradition are forgotten, I see this as the death of many great people and minds.
Or maybe the Ninjas just want us to think that they're dying out. Overomanticization is terrible to the Ninja identity, after all...
If you want to go full on conspiracy theory, maybe real ninja are the reason why fictional ones are so inaccurate, hahaha.
B Whit The Ninjilluminati are watching us
Could be they're "adapting," changing their jutsus and weaponry to match today's more technological world.
Fish
Ninjas were known to take advantage of the myths surrounding them.
This may sound really cheesy, but it makes me really happy that you are so excited about being able to do this show, which also makes me more excited about learning more from you. Keep being awesome!
Could you go into egyptian mythology with Yugioh? Especially with Exoida and his pharaoh-like design.
Loved this video btw
How do you rotate text in MS Paint? That'd be kickass
How do you rotate text in MS Paint? Hell, he could probably cover tonnes of lore from all sorts of card archetypes. Which I sincerely hope he gets to covering sometime.
I mean isn't it obvious? Exodia is Seth/Set. Rah is Rah. Slifer is Osiris. Obelisk is an obelisk.
Cake# well, Exodia is pretty similar to Osiris. His brother tricked him into getting into a sarcophagus, then cut him to pieces and scattered him around Egypt.
Osiris' wife managed to put most of him back together. The only bit she never found was his genitals, and because he wasn't fully alive anymore, he became the deity of the Underworld.
first, that into music is adorable and catchy as hell
second, congrats on the release of the show!
third, I can't wait to see more! it was Soo much fun to learn about Specter Knight and his Shinobi inspirations!
I agree on all three of those. :)
The intro is so good. Sing along to it every time. XD
You forgot the true, official source of all ninja knowledge: RealUltimatePower! haha
Now this is a remarkable new show! I found your older videos breaking down particular ninja to be quite fascinating. To see it get a more in depth focus like this, with more obscure ninja like today's subject, gets me very excited for more. Looking forward to future installments
Ninja's are awesome, glad to see a series like this about them, if I could do more to support you, Gaijin, I'd gladly do it, but, the best I can do is a view and a like, so have both and keep on making this glorious content and I'll keep on supporting the best I can.
God dammit, you're such a Ninja nerd. And that is a good thing...except for me; a pirate. Who is your archnemisis.
I would love for you to do some collaboration with Extra History to do some history of famous ninjas
CMB505 FOOL I AM A ZOMBIE. WE SHALL RIZE
Ninja. Zombie. Pirate. They all fall to a quick Cowboy and and a good six-shooter.
Can't shoot what you can't see! *Ninja vanish*
Too Bad there ISN'T Any possible Cultural Analyses for him to unravel in One Piece; And What REAL Pirates were there hidden in Plain Sight; AKA Roronoa Zoro being named after Francois L'olonnais(Roronoa is the Engrish version of L'olonnais); How ACCURATE of a Portrayal of the Navy/Marines of the World Government being JUST AS EVIL as the British Royal Millitary was during the Age of Pirates;
CMB505 ARRR me b'ye!
You NEED to make a Which Knight series, PLEASE, i need this.
Episodes where you are talking about ninjas tend to be my favorite ones, and now there is a full series of you doing just that. Awesome!
Goombah-sensei, I look forward to more episodes of this. The art of the shinobi may be dying, but through people such as yourself, they will *never* be forgotten. And so, on behalf of all of us, I say this.....
Arigato gozaimashita, Goombah-sensei.
Good stuff! Hoping this gains lots of momentum!
AAAAAH OH SPOOPY BOO!
oh wait no it's adorable! but what are you doing outside of your haunted toybox allochi?
The cutest boo is here
I've been waiting for this series and I'm not disappointed. Great video!!!
6:44 I did not expect to see Kamen Rider 555(Faiz) in this vid but I'm glad you put him in the vid.
this seems like it is going to be an amazing show! i'm very excited to see what "Ninja" you cover next
THIS SHOW IS GONNA BE AMAZING! i really love learning about new cultures and i love what you do culturally analyzing characters from popular media outlets!
Spectre Knight is by far my favorite of the 3 Knights, his design & gameplay are great, and honestly I always though he seemed more like a ninje than a ghost
Absolutely fantastic video man! I am definitely going to give your patreon a look. Your passion for knowledge and the sharing thereof is truly inspiring.
Great video, great work as always!
Really liked the back and forth you have with... you. Can't wait for the next one.
I liked how you used a screencap from Kamen Rider Faiz for Bushin no Jutsu
1:59
"I only know one truth. it's time for the shinobi to end."
This is why I love you so much. You refuse to make people pay for new knowledge and you're so happy to give it freely. I don't think any other UA-camr is quite as great as you are. I love your channel and I love your work, and I look forward to more Which Ninja~!
6:43 OH MY GOSH IT'S FAIZ THIS IS AMAZING AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Awesome ! i was hoping you made something like that since the Mark Of The Ninja episode. Thank you GG.
I'm so happy you were able to finally make this show a reality! I really enjoyed this first episode and I am definitely looking forward to future episodes.
I have to say this episode was perfect in every way.
I hope to see more the next time around! ^w^
I feel like maybe you and Metatron should collaborate on this series perhaps...
ErickDRedd have you heard of Antony Cummins and the Natori ryu?
Didn't Metatron just release a Ninja weapons debunked video??
JamcalX Can't say I have, but that probably has more to do with the content rather than quality. Quite frankly I'm more interested in general arms, armor, and history channels rather than specialized ninja/samurai stuff. Main reason being I feel like specialized channels (especially Asian martial arts ones) tend to fetishise the content into fictional territory.
Now, considering that it appears that Cummins has a video specifically mentioning Metatron and I haven't seen Metatron tear his channel apart with a debunking video yet, I'll assume he's not in that category and I'll check him out later. :)
Ry I thought he was more debunking the implication that these things were weapons exclusive to ninja, or developed by/for them... but yeah, it was about the point in this video where the weaponry came up that I decided to comment, which I almost never do on UA-cam, haha.
hello fellow noble ones
Gaijin thank you for not putting the show behind a paywall as I am poor but also an avid fan of your content. If I someday can spend the money, I will support you gladly. Yours is one of my favorite channels on UA-cam.
Specter knight is kind of more of a true threat to me b/c of all the dark energy inside him
Specter Knight is a great game :) I have a theory that Red, the curio peddler Donovan gets all the red skulls for, is actually his old partner Luan.
I really enjoyed the Kamen Rider picture you included! I look forward to watching the rest of this series
amazing work on the show, I can't wait to see more
...also now I can't unsee how curvy Specter Knight looks in the artworks
Well, we've never seen his face, have we?
@@edwardbo4666 unless Dig shows otherwise, we get a hint of Donovan's face in Specter of Torment & that's it
@@Artista_Frustrado exactly. So, hey, he could be a girl.
@@edwardbo4666 i mean Shovel of Hope lets you change their pronouns
@@Artista_Frustrado huh, I need to learn more about shovel knight
As soon as I started playing "Specter Of Torment," I knew right away that what I had at my command was a cross between Ryu Hayabusa of "Ninja Gaiden" and the "Castlevania" version of Death... the Death that's under the yoke of a greater evil. Yeah, the "Curios" and the wall-jumps were a dead giveaway, but so was the PUNISHING spike in difficulty... "Ninja Gaiden," you'll recall if you're my age or older (I'm 34) and grew up in the Golden Age Of Consoles, was pretty much the gold-standard for "Nintendo Hard."
0:55 That banter between the shadow clone Goombas cracks me up. Also is the Spectre Knight DLC already released yet?
This looks really coo can't wait for more of this I just love all of your cultural based videos like this. Though I myself am not Japaneses The cultural and a lot of other things from Japan have been a serious influence in my life. I always love seeing things like this. Thanks a lot for it :3
We really need someone to sing the theme song next time :P
Also I love the FFXIV mudra signs and sound FX for Goombah's "ninjutsu"
I have that same "Ninja Attack" book. I got it when I had a stop over in Japan. It's a really interesting read and I love it.
I knew Specter Knight was going to be similar to Ninja Gaiden at first glance. Love these videos.
Can't wait to see you going back to Genji and Hanzo from Overwatch. Those "bear claw" weapons reminded me of Shredder from TMNT, at least in the classic 80s series.
Going to binge all available episodes today. So excited I made the leap over from Game Theory to include this. Yay learning!
Glad to see you giving ninjas a true look of what they are really meant to be. And I'm glad to hear that Yacht Club Games confirmed that this game was heavily inspired by Ninja Gaiden, hence why Specter moves like one.
As someone who is wrighting a ninja character for a web based cartoon I can really use this knowledge, I want to get him as close to a real ninja as possible including his backstory. It will take a lot of research but I want to do it right. Thanks for yet another awesome video Gaijin
When I first saw the title of this video all I could think about was a peasant farmer weilding his farming tool as a weapon like many other improvised weapons.
I like what I see Gaijin, and it's great seeing you again Goombah.
I'm doing my best to show support by sharing until I'm no longer broke. Love your content and was actually thinking of making a story around realistic ninjas, lol.
I am so excited for this!!
I like how one of the sentences our goomba used while doing his ninja stuff was, hey you guys wanna get some pizza?
I know you don't exactly cover books on here, but I very distinctly remember a book from when I was a kid, and it was this historical fiction YA novel about ninjas called "Bluefingers" or something. It was super cool because it talked a lot about techniques that would have been theoretically used by ninjas. I'd highly suggest taking a look at it!
I like this, and I think the last second reveal of you getting info straight from the source was a laugh. I do see like what I see and hope to see more.
6:44 kamen rider 555
Faiz Accel!
I cant stop saying The intro with The jingle. it's sooooo goood
Gaijin Goombah, the ninja have fascinated me off and on for longer than I can remember. But watching your videos, as well as other content and materials, the past few years has brought something remarkably fascinating to my attention: while the ninja of Japan is a dying breed, the ninja lives on in other ways. Particularly in modern day Special Operations Forces (Navy SEALs may be an obvious example, but Delta Force/CAG and the CIA's Special Activities Division are much closer). In particular their uses of specialized (and improvised) weapons, their methods of hiding in plain sight, and their intelligence gathering. A lot of it is more mundane that popular media likes to think, but I still think it's really cool!
Well I somehow missed this video, glad I got to it now.
GGM: And elemental control!
*uses lightning
This was an awesome first Episode. I cannot with for more. and also I want to say you actually made me want to look up more about the ninja. So thanks for that.
I was actually hoping this would be a thing someday. And yay! More for honor cultural analysis! I doubt it, but I hope you do the other characters, too! (Don't worry though I won't be mad at all if you don't)
Goomba: Prove it!
Gaijin: Gladly!
Goomba: *look of disappointment and anger*
It feels like you're activating the Monado (at least the Sm4sh variation) in the beginning.
God can we talk about how cool of a character Specter Knight is. First, comes from a rad indie platformer game with NES graphics. Second, is a ghost/reaper dude with a scythe. Third, is a ninja. Fourth, is also a flipping knight to top it all off. Specter Knight is literally one of my favorite video game characters in a long time.
I'm so happy I'm here to see the beginning of this.
Now that I think of it darkness consumption and management reflects ninja and their tools. The curios are strong yes, but use them too recklessly and you aren’t using them again or pretty much good as dead until you kill another enemy.
Thanks for the awesome video Gaijin, the Specter Knight campaign is my favorite
Did you know that in the military some of the hand to hand stuff in certain Country's is based off of the ninjas fighting style?
The intro is so nerdy and perfect!
Hey Gaijin,
I just caught this and your most recent episode today and I'm really glad that you started this series. The way of the ninja has always fascinated me and I've wanted to learn more about it for years now, but never had the time nor a proper opportunity to do so. Plus the idea of how well modern media represents them has been a question in my mind for a while, too. Seeing this might just give me some of the answers that I've been looking for, and I have to thank you for that.
p.s. If you know a good place that I could learn a thing or two, please tell me about it. There's so much I want to learn hands on!
I gotta say that I'm pretty excited about this new series of yours.... good one there!
6:47 That looks like the animation of the move "double team" in 3rd-Generation Pokemon.
My first introduction to ninja I imagine many others was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. My interest only grew after playing Ninja Gaiden Black. A few years ago I started wanting to learn what ninjas were actually like. I'm liking forward to this series.
Death from Darksiders II might also be a Grim Reaper ninja. Fast agile attack, acrobatic as hell and a pair of hand scythes to boot.
So, this is the new normal voice for Goombah? I need the high pitch, oh well. XD
I love the idea of the show and really enjoy your content, both on here and on the game theorists channel (and i will shamlessly admit that i have watched "how aki and i met" more than once) i wish i could support you more than just watching your content as i know how hard it must be to make content for youtube, especially edited down stuff with special effects (and the research that must go behind it all) i hope this series can go far (especially considering i cant wait to see you look at zer0)
Has anyone noticed the text during the jingle actually has the right amount of syllables to match the jingle? If you switch the order of which ones are good and which ones are bad, good can rhyme with understood and boom! Lyrics.
> "...then there are some I never understood"
> Puts Genji on that side after telling how good of a ninja can you be, playing as him
...
Okay, Goombah, I am waiting for an episode on mah boy
Honestly, looking back at it now, it makes sense that Yacht Club would later proceed to make Cyber Shadow.
Gaijin, you have one of the best intro ever.
Really appreciate the Girl Shinobi and Samurai Master clip lol
Goomba is so lonely that he needs clones to have a pizza party
+Gaijin Goombah Media you know when you start to say what Specter Knight can do in his game. One game jumped on my mind when you asked can Grim Reaper do this and yes he can look in to game called Darksiders 2
So... I couldn't help but be reminded of "cataclysm" from Miraculous Ladybug by the nekote. It's really pretty spot on - a one-use attack that can destroy anything by dissolving or rusting it (reminiscent of poison), done by a human character wearing a magic cat suit.
I wish i could learn what real ninjas are like so that i can create accurate ninjas in my future game
I don't Think we can see the old [Best Ninja?] vid anymore =(
Hey, I'm liking what you're doing with this series already. Keep up the good work!
Okay, now I've got to see what you'd do with both Pirates and knights.
So, I backed out when the backstory bit started. But holy crap. This video was awesome.
Your videos help to inspire some point in the books i'm trying to write like a bit in my story about a family of wolves that use the moon to tell them when it's time for the younger hunter go on their fist unsupervised hunt. It because of a story they have about a young hunter chasing a rabbit all the way to the moon. got the idea from one of your Culture Shock. I love this series I am fascinated with ninja because of it to the point that in another book I'm writing I might make one of the characters a ninja but right now i'm not sure if he'll be someone we see in the book or someone we just hear about through his granddaughter who is half Japanese (her mom) and half Transylvanian (her dad).
anyways just wanted to let you know how much I love your channel and how grateful I am that you do stuff like this because I suck at research so thank you very much for doing everything you do.
The best i can do is be a sponsor. While it doesn't offer a lot of readily available funds, it's at the very least on a scheduled time frame. I do enjoy your content about ninjas. It'd be funny to see if the horrible 3 Ninjas movie got mentioned somewhere.
I think you’re forgetting something about spectre knight, the fact that in his boss fight in shovel of hope he had the ability to erase all light in the room /*didn’t real ninja have a technique which involves erasing light in the room too, that was mentioned in tmnt episode*/.
Massive props to Lt. Eddy & Noteblock for the awesome intro.
It seems proper ninja's follow the same rule as proper text in a book:
You don't notice it until the one doing it fucks up.
Love your ninja content buddy just keep it coming
I can't wait to see more in this series. If you need another ninja for an episode, I'd really love to see one on Amarant Coral from FF9.
This is freaking awesome! I've always wanted to learn about REAL NINJA. Never had the time unfortunately
Prove It! Gladly. Best exchange I've seen for ages.
Some good ninjas to do would be Grey Fox from MGS, Benikage from Rumble Roses, and the Dude from Warframe. I was also wondering about the Spiderman from that Spiderman manga.
