    Really? That scene was deleted because it was deemed too violent, yet they get away with saying "damn" all the time? Unless he stabbed and killed the other foot clan members as part of his training, I don't see how showing to the audience Shredder's prowess and skill as a ninja is in any way "too violent".

      Eh..cussing wasn't so bad compared to seeing what amount to what we now know as street kids barely 15 in some cases getting the ever loving crap beat outta them by a grown man sitting down. The 90's had weird standards of violence at times. I mean crap I think even to this day in the UK their called "Hero Turtles" cause of their strong aversion to violence. I remember when the cartoon replaced Mikey's nunchaku with a grappling hook towards the end there cause of violence and weapons reasons in the states.

    • @ShinKyuubi

      There were more cuts but I forget them cause I found them too bizarre to think about, you can look up UK vs US comparisons of TMNT, though I do remember the big thing was that in the UK like I said they were called "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles"...yeah...no..just no.

    • @Jokemeb
      @Jokemeb 5 років тому +28

      2012 Shredder defeated all four turtles all on his own multiple times throughout the series (similarly to the Utrom Shredder and the 1990 Shredder) AND he did something NO other iteration of Shredder has EVER done: he literally killed Splinter... TWICE. That's effective and competent as hell! And for the record, he did care about reforming the Foot Clan and NOT about ruling the world.
      Once he learned of his true heritage, being the son of Oroku Keiji, he started rebuilding the Foot Clan until it became a massive criminal organization we see in the series. He desired revenge on Hamato Yoshi/Splinter for 'taking' Tang Shen from him and because the Hamato Clan nearly wiped out the entirety of the Foot Clan back when Oroku Saki was a child and when Yoshi's father, Yuuta, was its leader. However, it was never stated, nor implied that Shredder wanted to rule the world in that series.

      The 2012 TMNT Shredder is one of the most powerful characters I've seen, and I've seen some OP characters. The way he moves and speaks always struck terror through me and the way he attacks is so brutal.
      The 2012 series is so ripe with cultural nods to Japan and and I hope he covers that version more.

    • @aoinatafanboy84
      @aoinatafanboy84 7 років тому +14

      Yeah, each iteration borrows from what came before. Well, most of them...1987 was intended to be the departure point initially from the source material. But, then you go into the 2000's iterations and they were meant to be based on the original comics as well as 2012 bringing everything from the past full circle. I'm a little torn on the video to be honest. But only because I am a big fan and do understand there has been a lot of mythos that has been made in the 30 years since it was made. But I'll give Gaijin credit that there are times when they are do adapt a lot of stuff closer to Japanese Culture each time they make another iteration.

    While the 80s cartoon Shredder suffered from the typical 80s villain ego problems, he was far from a bad character. Like Skeletor, Megatron, Cobra Commander, and Duke Igthorne before him, the weekly episode nature of the show if not daily issue of having to be beaten by the TMNT combined with the constant bombardment of parents organizations and censors getting in the way of making him more competent means they couldn't use the character to his full potential. Still I love the original movie and think it is one of the best comic book based movies even today just like the Christopher Reeves Superman and Micheal Keaton Batman so able to stand up with any MCU or X-Men film.

    That's actually pretty cool that the Shredder from the 90s movie actually has some history and real life accuracy behind him, and being a fan of that movie, I'm really glad to see this sort of thing ^w^
    I would also like to point out that Shredder's changes, however little or big they may be, comes from the fact that the TMNT universe is a very moldable universe, the basics of the universe is that you need 4 turtles to be the main heroes, a wise master to guide them, some of human companions to help them in the human world, and a Shredder character who they have to tussle with every once in a while, along with other fun villains, and they can meet new allies along the way, like mutants, aliens and other humans, these characters can be any gender you wish them to be, and I think that because the Shredder is the main villain, they often get very basic characters as other characters are more fun to play around with, but that's just my theory, if it seems right to you, then that's good, if you don't that's just your opinion and you're perfectly entitled to it.

    I'd like to see Gaigjin do one of these on the Shogun update for tf2 some of the items have great stories behind them such as the Half-Zatoichi a katana that hurts you if you try switching weapons without killing anyone. Not only is it a reference to the Muramasa a sword smith who made cursed blades that had the same effect, but is a reference to Zatoichi the blind swordsman. Only half because the two classes that can equip the item soldier and demoman have either a helmet blocking most of their sight or a eyepatch, making them half blind. More of a movie samurai portrayal, but still interesting.

    Between the voice modulator and the "I am your father" line, I'm starting to suspect that the 1990's Shredder liked Darth Vader a little too much.

    I'm honestly surprised that you didn't talk about his original version. Granted it wasn't around long. Still, as far as being Real Ninja, the 2012 series is about as close as they've ever been, so seeing another episode about that series in particular would be awesome. But still. This was SO AWESOME to see. And this whole series has got me practically frothing at the mouth to see a particular character tackled. But I'm not going to name them in the hopes that at some point in the future I'd be able to colaborate with you on it.

      PLENTY to work with there even among the different classes and even the same character like Cu Chulainn who has his well known Lancer class but also Caster and Berserker. Same for Saber..hell you've got Saber Lily, Saber Arturia, and Saber Nero who all look the same but are completely different historical characters. He could do a complete mini series like this on the Fate series alone.

    • @Kuudere-Kun

    • @ShinKyuubi
      @ShinKyuubi 7 років тому +2

      Yeah Nero is the Red very cocky and vain Saber, while Saber Lily is Arturia before she got Excalibur so she's more innocent and full of hope as opposed to the jaded version we know from Fate/Stay Night.

    • @Codeninja676
      @Codeninja676 7 років тому +1

      Saber Nero is based on r63 Emperor Nero while Saber Lily is based on a younger still in training r63 King Arthur.Fate is weird but fucking amazing i would wholeheartedly recommend you download Fate Grand Order the phone game it's pretty fucking good for a f2p game and it doesn't try to lock you behind a paywall all of the game is accessible for free and paying is only useful if you are hunting for a specific servant.

    Coming back to this video years later and I was on a big Nioh kick. Playing Nioh 2 as a female protag got the Wandering Shrine Maiden armor set and as I was listening I remembered that armor mainly because of the description.
    Not belonging to any particular shrine, they traveled the land, fulfilling requests for divination and exorcism rituals from the people they met along the way. It is said that wandering shrine maidens from Shimano Province were actually ninja agents, dispatched by the Takeda clan who ruled over that region.
    I hadn't put the two together before but it's a fun little hindsight thing.
