“Why do I look bad?” You are a hoot! This isn’t just a bike channel but a travel one. I think anyone who enjoys exploring the outdoors can find your videos entertaining especially since you don’t filter your experience and tell it like it is. Refreshing!
All my years spent in the backcountry, backpacking, hiking, hunting, fishing, motocamping, bike packing, river rafting… you just taught me what now seems like such an obvious hack. Aluminum foil to keep the black char off my pots, and mugs… 🤦THANK YOU!
HA HA, I was just going through withdrawals waiting for a new video so i went back and started reading all of the comments of your last adventure. Great fun stuff. I am recovering from back surgery so I have a lot of time on my hands. I came across a video of another woman trekking with a heavy bike and no kick stand. So here is what she did. A collapsible walking stick. the stick collapses down to 12 inches or so and is very light. She pulls the stick out to the right length and puts one end on the ground and the handle end fits under your seat and just lean the bike.. The stick works great for your exploring after you get set up at the end of the day. I tried it with my all wheel drive 100 + lb ebike and it works really great. The stick is very light and takes up almost no room. thank you for what you are doing. My back is healing and I can’t wait to get out there again. Thank you again for the great videos. Take care of that knee.
Hahaha! You crack me up! "Walking stick" what a cool idea! I will definitely be trying this and hopefully others reading your post! Does back surgery require physical therapy or does it just heal and you can start pedaling?
@@HumanontheLoose When I saw the walking stick idea I went outside and tried it right away. the sharp end in the ground and the handle up under the seat works great. I would love to see a video of you trying this. My back therapy is walking a lot. for now the doctor said no extreme bending and no lifting of anything over 10 lbs. I do wear a back brace when I am being active. I am driving when I am NOT taking any pain killers. I will know more next week after my appointment. Keep up the great work and TAKE CARE OF THAT KNEE. I use a cream called VOLTAREN for my knee replacements.
I got one of thoes new seats you're talking about......or should I say...trying to find the right one. I rode 103 miles and thought I had found it but told the bike fit guy that it could be just a hair better so he adjusted it. Got back on the bike and rode 7 miles in massive pain and numbness everywhere! I wanted to throw the facking thing in the weeds! Hope your body is enjoying the ride😁
Interesting. Almost perfect then much worse. As you know every human body is different so until you ride them you don’t know. At least you can scratch this one off your list. Hopefully you purchased it under conditions you could return it.
Gosh - thank you kindly! Haha...Ryan. That's funny. People have mentioned him to me but after watching three episodes I found myself fast forwarding - he is a sweetheart but has no edges. I have lots of edges. I like edges. Regardless, I took it as a compliment and am flattered! Thrilled to have you along and happy you enjoyed yourself!
YAY!!! Fantaaaaaastic!! You may look at cutting down from Idaho City. You won’t miss any hot springs. Tomorrow you’ll get to see the exact spot I saw the bike but we need to chat before you leave so I can tell you more.
As always, thank you! Hot springs and miracle cures, as your wheels spin 😉 let the waters heal you and ease your slumbers. Naomi wisdom, avoid soot and pitch both are a pain in the butt to clean. 😉 soak it all in.
The tree is definitely a thing. I once went bananas going through the Canadian prairies. No where to lean for 100s of kms. haha Hope the knee comes back. Great vid!
Glad you are doing rebroadcasts Nomes, I only watched your latest travel posts when I finally learned of your channel on your IG; but always enlightening & entertaining!💪🏻😁🚴
First, I have to say that pine cones are assholes! So are hickory nuts. I hate the way they make sounds pretending to be bears and ax murderers! I totally agree with you that the scenery and trip looks totally awesome! I've only experienced the hot springs of Steamboat Springs. But, they really take the lactic acid out of your legs when you've been skiing. You have motivated me to get a ride in today! Oh, and that green watch band makes your ensemble! Kick stands are lame! Try putting to big rocks together and putting the back wheel between them. Although, that can be frustrating with a fully loaded bike. Can't wait for some moments of WHEEE! Great vid! Power to the pedal people!
Hahahahaha! Sounds like a great T-shirt saying! I don't try to match but realize I end up matching. I'll try your big rock idea! Hope you had a fulfilling whee ride! 🚴 😃
I love your video series, it's bringing back memories of when I did part of the Hot Springs route! The Loftus hot spring was my favorite along the route, I was able to get to in first thing in the moring while it was still cold out, so I'm sure that helped. Anyways thanks for these videos!
i use a Nose breathing technique i got from an old buddhist book to send myself to sleep breathe in deep thru nose [and out thru nose.....or mouth] x 12, counting, in 1, out, in 2, out, in 3, out, in 4, out, in 5, and so on that's it the focusing on the counting helps quiet any worried voices inside your mind, and the deep oxygination of the cells tricks the brain into thinking you're doing a marathon and so floods the body with the good drugs i use Nose-breathing when exercising in general, and on the bike to help me pedal up hills, and throughout the day too, my cells thank me for feeding them oxygen :) i used this ancient nose breathing/counting technique at a cousins funeral too, to stop myself from crying too much, she was young and i was terribly overwhelmed but i did not want to slobber my grief loudly in a quiet church, it was hard but the nose breathing works wonders, it's amazing, mouth breathers are missing out on mother nature's free bounty!
If you’re worried about your derailleur check out a rolhoff hub. I have one and it’s life changing. Lots of mountain bikers love them. They do a Rolhoff hub with a belt drive. Check it out.
Hey girl. Just checking to see how that knee is doing. Having two knee replacements myself I know how bad the pain can be. Waiting with baited breath for your next trek and wondering if you tried the hiking stick kick stand idea. See you soon. Be careful.
I have not tried the stick idea as this trip is over. I never edit during a trip as it would change my experience and why I take them. You got me thinking...maybe I'll just try it with my mountain bike on my next ride - unless that's what you meant. My knee seems to get less crunchy as time goes by. Not sure why. Arthritis is arthritis. You had two? In the same knee?
Super vid, NS! I want a kick stand, too...but yeah, with all your pack weight, maybe not the most stable. Loved the river "sit"...I could just feel that cool water with you. DRIVE ON!

Excellent question! May I recommend watching a 3min video. Thumbnail is Charlie squirrel on my lap titled ‘What is my next bikepacking adventure’. In addition - I sold that bike as I was planning on staying in Boise for a few months and wanted to utilize their mountain bike trails.
Love those hot springs! Healing properties? I've heard that too, but my guess is that you have to practically be there all the time to get any benefits from it, that would be nice too. This looks like a really good and tough ride with equally awesome scenery! Leave the kick-stands for the department store bikes, a piece of cloth between the bike and the sap should do the trick. I would be leery of clamp-on kickstands if your frame is carbon fiber. Only a humble opinion. I don't even know if you ended up getting one or not. I'm so looking forward to seeing this beautiful trail and Human on the Loose shenanigans 😎
