    Hello Jason. The video quality and the cuts were clean, precise and had a nice flow. However, if this was a "promotional video" for a Barber...his audience would like to see his work. Instead...they saw YOUR work and he became second nature. At the very end...I thought I was going to perhaps see a quick "before & after" of his clients...that would highlight his talents. But instead...a client hugs him and the video is over. We really never saw any "finished products." Again...the videography and your cuts were beautiful, but it was HIS 'cuts' (pardon the pun) that should've taken more priority. Thank you for what do here on UA-cam. I've been in the business over 30 years...but always looking for new ideas for my promotional videos.

      Hey bro I appreciate the feedback. This is the direction the barber wanted. He wanted a lifestyle video and gave more direction with this. As far as the interpretation of the video, that's subjective brother. This video is nearly a year old and my approach/story telling has changed greatly. Since this video I've been DP on 2 feature films, DOP on 3 TV series, 4x published photographer, generated content for celebrities, professional athletes, and big clothing brands. Granted I've only been doing video for 2 years, I've been an editorial photographer now for 4. Being that I am self taught, it's constructive feedback like this that helps me train my eye more. Like I mentioned I really do appreciate the feedback and this was when I was really first starting out as a content creator. The best thing about being a creative, is that we get to bring our clients vision to life. We can give them subjective feedback like the thoughts you had with this video to them to tell a better story. If it was up to me, I would have picked a song with more energy but the client insisted using this one. If the client is happy and likes your work, you've done your job. There endless room to improve as a creator.

      Seventhsoncreative Jason I think everything about your video nailed it.... I’ve seen seventhsoncreative work and I don’t think he’s qualified to give feedback....

      I suppose nobody is gonna make the appointment because of the video. But… I guess it’s not the purpose of this video. It needs to make you check the author’s portfolio and then decide- do you want to be his client or not

    I really like what you did at the beginning: the establishing shots, getting out the car in slowmo - by jumping forward to the beat, this enabled you to shoot slow, but move forward quickly at the same time. By mixing the b-roll shots in the shop before he arrived, you were able to tell the viewer where he was going before he got there! Very clever. Good choice of music too.

  • @TourmalineFilms
    @TourmalineFilms 4 роки тому +4

    I would have had the barber talk about why he chose his career and what he loves about it and then had the shots you used as b-roll to enhance the story. Probably would have had some interviews with his clients talking about why they love the service so much too or communicated written testimonials in a creative way to provide some extra social proof for his brand.

  • @reniesboutique

    Great job! The one thing I would like to point out is that he parked right in front of the doors to his shop... that doesn't send a welcoming message to his clients who will have to park further away and walk in... owners and employees should never park right in front - those spots are for the clients :)

    I really like you interactions, and your approach to criticism. You take people's comments directly on the chin, and use that as an opportunity to improve yourself. It's a beautiful thing to see in a creative, and totally commendable. Wish you all the luck in the world Jason!

    I probably would've had the chair in the middle of the shop to start with and a single light source shinning down on the chair as i came into the shop with a slow motion frame giving it this dramatic look and went from there maybe even shot in black and white

    Wow! That’s a lot of views! You asked for people to say how they would’ve done it. I don’t think any two people would’ve done it the same way. I would’ve gotten some soundbites from the barber and got to know him better personally. One thing I noticed about your video was the color was absolutely superb. Superb colors in the barbershop. Great job.

    Another small tips; you as a photographer /videographer should pay attention to small details like dirty mirrors and other "small things". It is not the end of the world to have dirty mirrors, but it could me much worse. Looking out for these kind of things will help you spot the more important things more easily and help bring your video to an even higher level. You spend so much time on shooting and editing, so it kinda suck having imperfections holding it back.

    Thanx for this video. I suggest all of us from the video industry finaly come up with some stanardized termonology re. the dfference beween "video" as in You Tube instructonal/infomational Video (a guy or a lady stakn in front of a camera an talking) and video as in pomotional/commercial video (the o e that implies action, outdoor scenaries, a story.....).
    We should really use two different names for these two different types of videos.
    Open for sugestions.

    I think it needed to be a little bit more of a pumped up song, like I'm going to get my hair donenup... it's not an rnb vibe ... so a track with a bit higher tempo... and just maybe a more warm or contrasty color temp grading style...

    • @Aarius247

    • @ImJasonAnthony
      @ImJasonAnthony  5 років тому +1

      Hey bro I appreciate the feedback, The barber shop in general likes desaturated colors for their instagram feed, so what I had to do was copy their aesthetics. I agree with you about the music choise, once again it ws up to the client. The track was not my choosing, the barber is actually friends with that artist and specifically asked me to use that song. Sometimes when working with clients even tho its nice to have creative freedom you will wind up getting clients that want certain things. When they're paying you, as much as you can give your input on their requests, the client at the end of the day has to be happy.

    Nice video and great tips. Obviously starting in this business needs some $$$ to be spent on gear. What would you recommend if a person has a low gamma canon camera and a go pro hero. Is it possible to start off with that? Thanks again for the video. I hope to get a response

    Thanks for the video. I'm booked to film a welcome/tour video for a local business, where the owner is actually going to give us a tour of the facility. The rooms have VERY high ceilings and some machinery noise to work around. I'm wondering, what's the best way to mic him up?

    Loved it! Do you add an intro and an outro for your client's promo videos?

    Hay man, how long did it take you to obviously not master but learn enough to put out quality content and do you have any tips/secrets on how you learned the software?

    Great video mate, thanks for tips you have shared. I would like to clarify where do you suggest to get music from for promo ads in facebook/instagram. I am quite scared to be banned or flagged for breaking copyright rules.

      I have a subscription to artlist.io. It's pricey coming in at $200/year however for licensed music its considered very cheap. If you can't afford that in the beginning look up on youtube non copyrighted music and then use a youtube to mp3 converter.
