I forgot to say in the video, I did go to Wheelie University. It's a course here in San Diego where you learn on a Speed Triple and don't use the clutch at all, just the timing of revving the throttle, chopping it, then timing the rebound back with more throttle. On my Instagram page, I have a picture of me at the course where I'm almost at 1200. Check it out

Greg.....dont waste time with 2 inch lifts....its a timid approach to an aggressive technique...stick with 2nd gear clutch ups...quick clutch release ...then intentionally lift beyond your comfort level and immediately hit the rear break forcing bike down....remember you always have that option as you cover the rear to immediately set her down....practice that control variable

Don't know how long I'll keep practicing or if it's something I'll want to master...time will tell.

My biggest tip for wheelies is once you get comfortable chasing it, start to get comfortable putting it down with the brake. Give it more throttle than you think you need and use the brake to slow the rise until the bike feels weightless. It's all on throttle control and brake control from there.

Wheeling is trying to loop the bike but catching it. You don’t necessarily need the clutch (maybe a slip to cheat your way out of low rev climbing ) nor much throttle, you want the rear wheel to shoot forward under the motorcycle. No crazy practice needed, just an intention to loop the bike.

Seriously you have great low speed skills, wheelies are not hard. Start small and you will pick it quickly. Try going a little faster in 2nd gear so you are in the power already. Listen to the sound of the bike as well. You just need to be more aggressive on the throttle and it will come up. Your timing with the clutch and throttle is great already. Wheelies feel much sketchier when you don't commit to them. Like you were mentioning how they slide you back in the seat, if you were to commit to more throttle then it wouldn't feel like it is shooting you backwards. Once it clicks, it clicks. My advice is to trust your skills and don't be as hesitant, but be cautious.

Tip from someone who has looped two bikes, remove your phone from the mount. Hard to phone a friend with a smashed phone

You have to get used to the feeling of the front wheel being in the air, then you can really start practicing.

For the first time in the 22 years that I've owned my 67 BSA Lightning, I took it out to do wheelies. It was for a photo shoot, but I did at least a couple dozen wheelies. At the end I was dumping the clutch at 7,000RPM to get it to the balance point, and it would leave about a 2ft long black mark(no traction control). It is a 4 speed & geared up for modern traffic speeds.

I really appreciate you allowing us to watch the processing to hear your thinking as you’re doing it. It’s not the most exciting video, but it showing us how to learn a new skill and the head knowledge on how to go about it.

About time you will learn loads.... I've been doing wheelies in the car park whilst doing your moto jitsu drills. If you're in the car park you might as well learn as much as you can. Wheelie, rolling stoppies, emergency stop, tight cornering it’s all great fun. Get used to balancing point on a bicycle and using the rear brake then take it to the motor bike. The bicycle has a much lower balance point, this is 45 degrees but the motor bike will be around 75-80 degrees. Every wheelie you use the rear brake is a win, don't worry about distance. Enjoy the learning. It's great fun.
