When learning your first Frontside 180's its important to have edge control! Spinning frontside from your toes is known as spinning "hardway", but when you are first learning Frontside 180's on flat ground, you'll find it much easier to pop from your toes rather than your heels! Take a lap with Nev and Phillip as they go over some techniques to help you practice your first Frontside 180's!

Keep doing these types of videos. There the best style out there. Live 1 on 1 training
Totally agree, these instructionals are so good cause you can see the perspective of the person learning, not just the pro.
For real, i was struggling with switch riding and then i watched the live tutorial. Instantly started carving switch effortlessly, i was so amazed
100%
Just awesome to see this guy's progress and how stoked he's getting while learning 180's!
Keep bringing these videos!
This video is amazing and feels like a 1 on 1 training lesson
Learning first frontside 180.
Phillip: how about FS, BS, and switch FS?
Yeeeeah!!!! You can see the stoke in his smile!!!! Hahaha had me smiling too lol great job guy!!! Great vid. Crew!!!
Now I just want to go there and get lessons from him, what a great teacher 👏 🙌
Been riding for over ten years, always learning... Your videos are awesome! Your teaching style is perfect. Thank you for your content!
Great video. Loved the energy between you two. Felt like I was learning right alongside you guys.
Thank you for the video, it helped me to do my first 180. Watched it yesterday evening and today I used the tips and landed my first over a jump! So stocked to finally got it. And then did a few more ☺️
Fantastic! Nice work🙌🏻
Just worked on this today. Toe side jump going across the slope was key. Some very slow and some with more speed. Landed every one of them! A real breakthru for me. Super stoked!
At 21:35 I thought that guy in the background is just the sickest carver till I realized he was slipping down. Looked sick anyway haha
Cool video! I'm gonna do some more 180s next time I hit the slope!
Edit: well actually I think he is a good carver but the ground seems a bit icy
😂😂😂
Love this video and the honesty of the rider - not knowing directions - like me! Thank you.
Man I would love to be shredding in Whistler right now... daaang!
These are helping a ton two years later. Thank you! Just started riding this month and I’m addicted!!
Great to hear it!
Your buddy has a fantastic attitude to this, dude is having a blast
Awesome video!! Finally winter is near!
man i love your tutorial videos. kudos for all the AMAZING work!!
Sending cheers for Philip from Alaska
Great video!
Really cool to watch how to learn this 🙂
You gotta teach the dude to wear his goggle strap INSIDE the helmet. It gives magical powers!
I have to buy the biggest helmets I can find for them to fit on my head, and there's no way to fit anything extra inside the helmet. Dude seems to have a pretty big head as well. Some of us are just born with the cranium of an elephant
@@martina2659 Oakley mod 1 does the trick. Its made to have goggles under. U dont even notice the goggles
@@martina2659 i have a pretty big head too, but giro makes some giant helmets, look at my videos from over a year ago, i looked like a spaceman bobblehead lol
Watched it this last night did l a 180 jump today and landed .. thanks
Nice one dude! Keep shredding :)
Love your guys' channel! Not sure if you guys have tried this, but would you use helmet POV cams for tricks where approach is super important (like for spinning)? Just to get a first person view of the carve cadence (and line of sight) while approaching a feature? I've seen some Helmet cam shots on your channel, but most cut in right before the feature and don't usually include the approach. Just a consideration, and thanks so much again for all your great content!!
Wanna practice now too!
Nice work 🍻
Such a cool Video 👍
Dude almost got tattooed at 13:56 😳😳😬
Whether you rotate front side or back side has more to do with which eye dominant you are because you are able to see around easier
Sounds like fake news haha
Love these videos
More pop, board touch equals sweet 😊❤️
21:36 background, icy or hard snow, too much pressure on the back foot ?
the skier on the box at 0:31
Oh he on Xgames mode 🥶
what jacket do you have?👀👍
How are you not catching that downhill edge on the landing? Looks like a flat base landing with an immediate edge change. I guess that’s why being proficient at switch riding is so important.
Some of the front 1s were close, but if you keep those legs bent and get onto that edge, you will be good most of the time:)
Thank you, will give it a try.
Looking for second hand snow board to buy
These videos are great, i’m guessing the 14 thumbs downs are because of Phillip or whatever the students name is, and i agree but doesnt warrant a thumbs down (due to his personality not his riding) but either way great video
I see myself. I always see what expers do and I said that's ok, I can do it.. but when I tried, I did it very badly.
It really helps to go with friends and film each other for good feedback (and laughter ofc ;) ), just like mentioned in the video. Good luck!
Thanks @@scratastic1
So pelmenik!
Broke my wrist doing this
We have videos on how to call safely too
No wonder why my butter 180's have been trash. I don't even these down yet, yikes.
3:15 poor guy
If he improved his normal riding style so that he is more in line with his board, looking over his shoulder, he would be able to rotate better.
Bro get a student that pays attention Jesus lord
18:26
I remember when i first learned fs180s. I was exactly the same, 180 off of everything all over the mountain. I did them so much i tore a muscle in my abdomen... and then I kept doing more.
21:37 just about everybody riding the first few times
Haha indeed, too bad he didn't slide all the way outside the view of the camera would've been funnier
You probably dont give a shit but if you guys are bored like me atm you can watch pretty much all the new series on instaflixxer. I've been streaming with my gf during the lockdown =)
@Quinn Messiah Definitely, have been watching on instaflixxer for years myself :D
yooo i clap here alone when he landed it on the jump!!! i was acctualy proud of him eheh
keep with this videos pls!! they help us a lot. love u
Quite the learner eh!
Mad props to the cameraman for getting both jumps at 12:38
So friggin good! This is where i am on my riding and I can’t wait to do this same progression in 5 weeks when at Keystone.
It’s scary spinning uphill(fear of catching edge) I think that’s why he kept doing back sides
I have 180's already unlocked in all directions, but oh boy I so enjoyed this clip ... was so proud when that dude popped his 180 of the sidehit.
Great vids !!!
I also think backside is easier than frontside, because the toe edge is used
Right on, Nev! Awesome video!
0:35 is the way to grind a box!
Slow and steady all the waayyy haha
lol @ 21:37
Rocked it! Nice!
Imagine he would've used his arms to get some extra rotation... :)
Also to make it look way more cool i suggest to teach people to only jump high, the rotation will automatically follow at the highest phase of the jump . I think this looks way more smooth :)
Fantastic video showing amazing progression.
It was fun watching the progressions! Good teacher!!
Great. Feel that diiferense is because teacher use rotation of his shoulders and arms. Ans other guy make rotation by his hips. I do the same mistake)
Thanks Nev!
I feel you Phillip! Those frontside 180s have always felt weirder and a bit more confusing for me...
Never occurred to me you could fs180 off the toe edge no wonder it took me so much longer to learn than bs
Yeah I can currently BS 180 because feels good to go off the toes (just took a while landing blind), but not ready to hit FS off jumps/rollers. Couldn't FS off my heels to save my life ... Can't wait to try now.
@@kiddkaos1 yeah feels so awkward off heels but I finally got it by winding up just in the shoulders Ollie then start the rotation in the air.. me too next season can't wait.
Hey Nev, how much forward lean should one have on the highbacks for flatground tricks like this that will eventually go to jumps in the park and sidehits on the reg runs?
I don't know if you got an answer already, but I would recommend putting your boot in the bindings and just look that there is no space between them. Your heel should be on the ground if you don't put any pressure on it.
Teaching fs180’s hardway is so dumb. Easier progression is starting heels to toes. If you are going to preach pop and easier maneuvers keep the spin with the edge you are preaching on (bs on toes fs on heels)
ohhh man, your tutorial it's just wonderful, and got a perfect timing wrap up in the 21:36 hahahahahahahaha
"Oh, that was a backside 180." Task failed successfully
Whistler doesn't have mask requirements?!
Thank you for this...
dude really wants to learn bs ones first for some reason xD
Great coach
very usefull, thanks
I find back 180s easer cuz your jumping from you toeside
I feel that.
Lmao legend.
SICK!
I love your videos, i learned so much from the beginner tutorials! Yesterday i tried a few 180 jumps , but exactly what you explained in this video was my big mistake. I tried to do the jumps from the heel side , but as you said it's much harder then the toe side. I'll keep in mind the next time i go to ride.
I have 180's already unlocked in all directions, but oh boy I so enjoyed this clip ... was so proud when that dude popped his 180 of the sidehit.
Great vids !!!
keep doing these type of videos with live coaching! Also with the more intermediate tricks like "180 Tail Butter 180 Out". That would be amazing. Keep it up!
I'm watching all these before I hit the slopes tomorrow! Got comfortable on my board last Monday and now I'm gonna hit the slopes tomorrow and gonna go harder both flatland and on the jumps.
Thank you for the amazing video!
Last weekend, I've tried this progression and been able to do my first 180 in a day.
Excellent demo, having the guy make all the mistakes I'd make really helps...
Excited to use your product cant wait to start my program , love watching this kind of video hope you make more live video
This guy is the best teacher
I am goofy, is it still the same with the frontside 180 or should I be on my heels when I jump up? Thanks for the tips
Great video, answered all the questions I would have and saw all the mistakes I would make!
Brah, Neil you are a badass teacher. Hopefully one day I can take some lessons with you.
The teacher brings his right hand all the way behind him before he jumps vs the student. Just a thought, this might help someone.
Yeah jumps are much easier with , head first, shoulders , hip and then board
Cool !!! just one question, any recommendation for the binding angles for this maneuver ?
We rock -9 +12!
@@SnowboardAddiction Thanks,,,I do prefer a lower level on my back foot (around 0 to 3)...so I guess it should be a bit the same. Still, next week, down in Baqueira Beret, I will me that adjustment ;)
Very good instructions. Make it so easy looks like everyone can do it.
I can’t wait to try this. Awesome video. Thanks.
Hahaha love it. He keeps going backside and landing it. Hee hee
Tell him no sitting down in the middle of the run
What burton am jacket is that sir???? It’s so nice
Love these videos! Keep them coming.
Great improvement Philip. Nev Sick video. I am 43 years old OG of Snowboarding self-taught and watching this video made it so easy to master Front Side 180s. I literally after only watching this once went up on Cypress Last night and was popping FS180s coming down Collins Run. Everyone thought I had been doing them for years. Massive thanks my kids and family love your videos. keep them coming. I have recommended so many people to watch your videos. You and Duncan really explain things really well
I feel like really advanced people have a difficult time explaining frontside and backside because of the lingo they use. For me it made more sense to hear someone say
“A frontside will have you facing the direction your going and a backside will have you face backwards”
Sometimes the lingo is too much
Have just become a fan! Good job!
Top de mais
His first jump across the slope was almost BS 270. He landed 180 but his momentum kept him spinning and he slid into a 270 position before correcting.
Also, his other attempts doesn’tseem smooth bcuz I think he’s not doing a proper windup.
I’m not much better. I make the same mistake all the time. What I really need is for someone to film me. So I can see what I’m doing wrong.
ya he was for sure not winding up enough and just using strength to power through the 180
Excellent.
