In 2009 I had my heart set on a 330i. But. then I just drove M3 with SMG. I have a leg injury so I can not drive a 3 pedal car. SMG is great for someone like me. My SMG has been trouble-free ever since I bought my 2005 E46 M3 in 2009. I did have to buy a used convertible top pump for a couple hundred dollars last year. My top is working fine. The only problem with my car is that this is a huge incentive to modify. I probably spend another $30,000 on my vacations. All them involving handling and only a little bit with the exhaust and motor. Well it's a little bit probably $5,000 including the dyno tune after complete exhaust change
I bought one last year with 150k miles. Now it’s almost 162k miles on the clock. The first month was financially painful (had to do rod bearings, VANOS, and complete overhaul of the cooling system) that my checking account went negative, and my savings account going below $30. F***! After those were sorted out, it’s been solid. Knock on wood!
You have my approval and, I welcome you to the fold. Don't get a project car. See if you can get it from a car enthusiast or an older owner. If you see one you like, keep your composure and do not scream like a girl in a candy store. Good luck!
Dont care about the resale value, since I'll never ever ever sell it once i get my hands on one. I hope you get the m3, I still love your videos and I'll definitely watch more no matter what choice you make.
You should, as a current owner from 2009 it’s been pretty damn reliable. I am always searching for more content on them I never imagined it would hold its value over 13 years of ownership I just loved the body style and as long as the maintenance is kept up it’s a great car. Sad to see the 3 series go I think it was your fathers car if I remember. Hopefully you can salvage it but salutes
I own one , it’s parked up for a little while but the other night I saw one drive by and was like wow what is that ….when I turned after I heard it I saw an e46 m3 and thought wow , I got one of them 😂😂🤷🏽♂️

I got my 2003.5 last year and couldn't possibly be happier with the purchase. It's an absolute blast to drive, and super rewarding to maintain/upgrade. I have no doubt that you'd have a great time owning one, if that's what you choose to do.
My 2004 Vert M3 is triple black manual and has the optional hard top that looks amazing. only has 47k OG miles on it. thinking about selling it. does have mods on it never been tracked. thinking about selling it but not sure what the value would be? frank smith tune, status grouppe exhaust rasp eliminator and best of all no cats and still passes emissions. what do you guys think it is worth?
I commented on your last E46 video, but I just picked up my 04 M3 coupe for 28K! Mystic Blue on black 3 pedal car with 108K! Vanos, clutch, cooling system done. Going in soon for the RB’s and Subframe! Make the jump buddy
The fact that there are still lots of UA-cam videos coming out on the e46 m3 when its 20 years old, tells me it will be one of the all time future classics
I've used quite a lot of your videos to do jobs on my 3 in the near 2 years I've had it. Needed to code an LCM, so used your video for that. Needed a new head unit so went for an Avin. Changed door speakers so used your video. I'm sure I've done a lot more too. If you do go and buy one, be prepared for absolute liars as sellers. They will happily tell you the subframe has been inspected. You cannot inspect it with the subframe in situ. If they refer to it as the boot floor you know it hasn't even been looked at. If I were you, before buying, check the compression on all 6 cylinders. The head gaskets fail between 5 and 6. The only tell is a loss of pressure as there's no fluid mix. Budget rebuild price of vanos and budget for rod bearings too. Post facelift makes no difference, if they're old and especially if it's had lots of owners, change them.

E46 m3 is one of the best cars bmw made. If you can store your dads car and get a m3 as a driver then do it.
Try a m3 convertible with a manual. Less than a coupe and top down enjoyment.
They don’t look as good in my opinion

Why not just buy another 330 & transfer everything from the current one, to the next one?
An M3 would be the ultimate upgrade for a "new" E46! Do it and save/preserve the old E46.
