Hey! I turn 16 really soon and im buying a husqvarna te 125!
In norway we can drive 125 2 stroke supermotos at 16 so we can get a small taste off what we are getting with the 450's!
The husqy have about 42hp at the crank without restrictions! Just the same as the ktm's and the other Big brand sumo 2 strokes.
I have been riding since i was small and i cant wait to get my hands on a sumo again! Haven't owned one in 4 years and every time i try my friends sumo i miss it more and more. I have ridden naked bikes a lot as well but There is just something about those damn motards that gets me going!
    Nice video im deffinetly subscribing!

I've had two ktm exc 525 supermotoes and yes lots of power and very good bike, but very pricey to buy and maintain. Now have a drz 400e supermoto witch has a bit more power then the standard drz and cost me 1200 pounds, for my needs its just as much fun at a lot less mantanice. My only vehicle is a 500 exc and i change the oil every 1200-1500km depending on how much off-roading I do. Everything Ktm says in that book is conservative and meant for racing. I found when I changed the oil at 15 hours it had just broken in and was still like brand new. Although I can’t speak for a chained up and muzzled 500 supermoto. It’s a shame your getting rid of it but it sounds like you took the fun out of it for yourself. If you want to go on long trips you should do it, it doesn’t take a whole lot of equipment to maintain the machine.

I've had three KTM 525 RFS bikes (two street stupermotos) and I've watched similar bikes in the forums over the years, some of the guys have over 40,000 miles on them in adventure tour trim and do 2,000 mile oil changes with thousands of hours on stock engines - it's ALL WAY over hyped - they can handle much, much longer oil changes than 15 hours and valves don't move much after the initial few checks. Also remember that KTM 690 still have the rocker arm/shaft/bearing issue - still has not been rectified, so every 15,000 miles they should be changed for new ones - BTW, I had an original 2008 SMC 690 and the rocker shafts should be staked with a center punch to keep them in place. also, how hard is it to change quart or so of oil on these - takes five minutes and costs $3 (I use DELO 15w40 and its $10 a gallon over here) - filters are good for a long long time. Just picked up a 2005 525 SMR street sumo.

@@Vex-Milk Just surfing the net and reading the post by all these guys that had run the RFS engines long term and they got LOTS of miles out of them - These engines can run up into the thousands of hours before new valves and/or piston rings are even touched. (Should do valve lash .004" but have screw adjusters not shims, so super easy) Also oil change intervals can be extended much longer than 15 hours. I just got me a fresh 525 SMR, so I'm going to put some real miles on he but I'm confident these are some of the best engines KTM ever made from my finding over the past 10 years or so of being around these.

    • @Balomis
      @Balomis 5 років тому +1

@@Vex-Milk Thumpertalk forums are a really good resource. Like Glen Davis said, the RFS and now the XC4 engines are really much more durable that people would have you believe. I have over 18000 kilometers on my 500 EXC and it's probably not even in the top 5% of high mileage bikes. That said, the previous owner gunked it up with a ton of carbon build up so it needed a bit of cylinder head work.

What do you think about a champion framed 350 Jawa dirt tracker. Think a front brake might come in handy. Don't remember much conversation about suspension other than stiffer springs and higher viscosity fork oil. I would think that there would be a lot more to it. Had a friend that specialized in tuning suspensions. He started a business and had a quite a reputation tuning MX bikes. LE engineering or something to that effect. A couple years later I ran into him at a World Superbike at Laguna Seca and he was servicing some top teams suspensions . This was the mid -late '90's. I was pretty impressed but he told me the mx bikes were pretty impressive right from the factory and the superbike tuning he was just doing for kicks and PR but what his bread and butter business was now bicycles and snow mobiles. Go figure? RIP Jim!

if it's 2 stroke then yes it's fast enough, if it's a 4-stroke it will be fun for a month or two then you will see it's too slow. Look at husqvarna sm 125, they aren't that expensive used and have good parts.

I've had supermotos in the early 00's but for me its about super nakeds now. I think years of mx as made me enjoy big singles on track too much...not road

Hi mate , love the content, did you make any adjustments to the suspension for supermoto and street riding, I've built one around my fx 350 and wondering what needs to be done to the suspension to take it from an enduro bike to a road bike
    Many thanks

A New 701 Build FTW! Personally i don't like the looks of the 690 over the 701, and since they cost more. I'd stick to the 701 and spend the money you didn't have to spend, on the rottweiler kit!

So weird it has changed so much. I used to ride a 640LC4 enduro in London in the late 90's. Never locked it once. You didnt need a key to ride it. Just left it. I just assumed no one would be able to start the fucking thing except me anyway. Did not even cross my mind people might have a van.

I had a Suzuki DRZ (SM) , back in the day, great little street bike. Traded it in for the KTM 990 SMT which was a good all round machine. KTM up in Scotland now is very limited only one dealer the last time I checked. Caused problems getting warranty work done, long waiting times...etc

Really looking forward to seeing you modify a 690 or 701!

I have a 83 xl600r supermoto. Cost alot to build supermoto wheels on a old bike but the xl600r is way better than a xr650l or a drz400, except for the suspension but you can upgrade the suspension. I will never sell my xl600r I love it. Plus I have to much into it to sell it.
