Just curious, I used to live in Nanaimo and my wife and i come back every summer since 2018 as visitors, and since BC made drugs illegal in public again recently, is the downtown beginning to become a little “safer” than recent years? Understand the homeless but more so the addicts.
Thank you for the comment. We have been visitors of this gorgeous harbor town ourselves. We have been coming here for the last few years and we have always found it safe and welcoming. We live in Coquitlam on the mainland, though.
@@HighonSpices Oh cool! We’re in Medicine Hat AB and yes we have had only one encounter with an addict but otherwise we always return and it’s been safe for the most part as well!
Yes the drugs are illegal again, but little else has changed, police are still not arresting for open using or public intoxication, addict's are only asked to hand over the drugs to authorities with no charges for caring them, the only change is that the downtown core now has a bunch of new flowers, plants and other pretty things as well as new traffic light by the Hope Centre and freshly painted crosswalk to make the area look nicer but its just a cheap cover for tourists, Oh and and a new hotel behind the casino for the slot jockeys but other than that downtown is sadly still a sesspool of openly using druggies and finally there is talk about constructing a new psychiatric building on the hospital grounds for the hardcore street addict's that refuse out patient care but that still in the design faze so its still a few years away....
