🚆 4K Beautiful cab ride with many single track sections (Switzerland | IR75 Zurich - Lucerne)

- It has been almost four years since we've last been on this line and it's time to change that! Since our last ride on this route, all InterCity and InterRegio lines have received a number. In this case it is the InterRegio 75, or IR75 in short. You may remember the IR75 from the cab rides to and from Konstanz and here you'll see what happens after the train arrives in Zurich: The direction of travel changes and the train continues further to Luzern with a few stops in between. The route follows some single-track sections and tunnels, through rural areas and alongs multiple lakes. Please sit back and enjoy the ride!

Great cab ride I been to Luzern from Zurich but it was thus service I took I think or IR70 I think .
Super. Looks like about 125 MPH on one section. Train was moving!
The fastest we've been was 160km/h or 100 MPH in the Zimmerberg Base Tunnel. Everything else was a bit slower ;-)

One notable feature on this route is that there are several stations that are so close together they're almost within sight of each other, Baar - Baar Neufeld - Baar Lindenpark and Zug - Zug Schutzengel are all less than a minute apart. Clearly some of them are fairly recent, the costs of building new stations must be a lot less astronomical than in the UK
Yeah, it's a nightmare driving the commuter trains. You barely start accelerating and already have to stop. It is expensive here, but public transport has a high priority.

Same ride as IR70 Zurich HB - Luzern? I took IR70 in 2018; if so it looks as if there's a lot more development along the tracks than I remember.
Yes, it is the same route, but the IR70 has less stops.
Are they ever going to complete the Zimmerberg Base Tunnel? I find it quite amazing that the single track sections between Zurich and Zug haven't been duplicated given how busy this line is.
Yes, if you look closely in the tunnel just before it becomes a single-track section, you can see the tunnel continuing for a few meters. That's where the ZBT II will be connected to. As of now, it should be done by 2035.

Is it possible to see the journey from Zurich to Lugano?
It looks quite a climb up from Thalwil up the side of the valley. What gradient is that?
About 12‰, not much, really.

It is indeed 4K. The compression is brutal, unfortunately. It is one the reasons why I hesitated to switch over to 4K, however it still looks a lot better than 1080p.
What was that bump just when the train entered the bridge over the Reuss to join the Olten-Luzern line?
A bump ;-) Because bridges expand and contract, the rails are not welded at these points and every Millimeter of movement can cause bumps like these. It's nothing to be worried about, and it does look worse on camera than it feels in reality.

Nein, einfach ein Stoss beim Übergang auf die Brücke. Die Kamera hat ein wenig fest gewackelt, so schlimm ist es in der Realität nicht.

A rail atlas I have dated 2012 has a proposed tunnel from the Zimmerberg base tunnel to the south end of the Albis tunnel, Zimmerberg 2. Is this proposal still on the books waiting for traffic density and funding or has it been abandoned?
It is still planned to be finished by 2035.

Does the driver need to know everything about the traffic going the opposite direction, especially on the single track sections or is he just able to follow the signals and leave everything else to the traffic controllers.
We follow signals and written orders, it does not make a difference for us if it is a single or multi track section.
The beauty of this country is hard to beat... but, I HATE the graffiti on everything.
There's a lot of pixelation in the video even at 4k.
That's what UA-cam compression does to footage with alot of movement. Playing it at a higher bitrate can reduce the issue but it's an inherent problem of the compression.
The compression is brutal, unfortunately. It is one the reasons why I hesitated to switch over to 4K, however it still looks a lot better than 1080p.
@@RailwayEmotions Given that some TVs have a UA-cam app that limits videos posted at 60fps to 720p (my TVs are Panasonic and my PVR is Humax) the only way to make it better is by watching on a PC. But I prefer to sit in comfort in my lounge and watch on a large screen TV. Your videos always used to have the cleanest, most stable pictures but, I'm sorry, this one is rather disappointing. You are not the only channel to suffer from this problem. For reference, my main TV is on wired Ethernet with an average download speed of 50 Mbps, so that is not where the limit is occurring.
