  • I have read SO many personal profiles in the past year and a half. Not that I am the master of personal profiles... like at all... I still have a few words of wisdom to share haha
    In todays video I talk about some of the many things that you guys often do that unintentionally weaken your personal profile. They aren't easy to write, trust me I know, but hopefully with these tips alongside my other personal profile videos, you should be set to write a GREAT personal profile!

    I am just here to appreciate the work this girl has put in for all of us. Really, like university applications are one of the most stressful thing atm and trust me when I say you help, you HELP. Not even just the personal profiles themselves but mentally, to relieve our stress. I can also tell you were a bit frustrated I think from this video lol, because of people copying your personal profile when you only meant to share it for us to get and idea. Which is totally justifiable btw for you to be mad about lol because really, plagiarism is the last thing somebody should do while APPLYING to university, they wouldn't be able to survive uni if their first step is such. Thank you again for the being witty and so so so so dedicated to reading over 300 personal profiles, Jesus Christ you have some motivation to help us must say. :) Absolutely love your videos!!

    A thing that helped me is to write in depth about what's meaningful to you, and then pare it down. If you start with a large version, and then cut it down to the essentials, being mindful of those essentials, you will come away with a better product than if you just hand the first rough draft, stream of consciousness version in.

    Yo no lie, your videos and especially this one have put me at ease, not just because of the tips you give, but as well you have done a more than excellent job at reassuring me and hopefully a lot of others that proper structure and formality are only a fraction of the Personal Profile. The important part is to express how you feel about yourself with the best intentions in mind and that as long as you take your time to patiently discover more about what you find great about yourself, what you write can only get better as you progress. Thanks for saving our asses!

    Hi Maddy! I love your videos they're so helpful :) I want to go into engineering at UBC, but I'm really worried about my average. I have an 88 :/ I heard that if you're from Alberta (which I am) UBC increases your average from 2-4 percent, do you know if that's true?

    • @MaddyA
      @MaddyA  3 роки тому

      Hi Ria! Yes that is true. I think its more around 2%. I would not count on that too much but UBC does add a little bit. It's safe to say that BC's education system in comparison to Albertas is um... lacking a little bit.

    Hey Maddy, I hope you're doing well it's been really tough writing my personal profile for a couple of reasons and I can't help feeling guilty. It's to the point where I might not even apply to UBC even though I've written my personal profile and everything. It's my dream school but I just feel so helpless. My grades are pretty good considering the program I'm planning to apply to (low 90s), but I had to lie on my personal profile. Due to some unfortunate circumstances at home I really only had one valid activity. I knew I wouldn't have a chance getting in if I only had one activity out five. So I made up 3 and wrote about them in a lot of detail, but I just feel so bad about this and I don't know what to do. Is there anything you suggest?

    • @chanaidan1595
      @chanaidan1595 3 роки тому +3

      I don't think an activity must be an achievement. UBC has said in the website that they know it is hard to get experiences during the pandemic, so they encourage us to focus on what we have learnt and such. Is there anything you have learnt during the pandemic? Any skills you have acquired and so? tho I am also applying to ubc rn I think it is utmost importance to show the true you. Sometimes it's fake to make up one.?

    • @ofang
      @ofang 3 роки тому +2

      I would not risk lying on your personal profile:
      1. It’s straight up dishonest.
      2. If you are caught, you risk any opportunities at other Universities. Universities usually notify other post secondaries about ones academic dishonesty.
      3. UBC doesn’t care how many activities you do!
      Hopefully this helps...

    • @tiahikari287
      @tiahikari287 3 роки тому

      @@ofang Yeah I completely agree I've deleted the activities which I lied about. Do you think one activity with some skills I've acquired over the pandemic will suffice? Also thank you for your response

    • @ofang
      @ofang 3 роки тому

      @@tiahikari287 100%, any activities at all done over the pandemic shows a lot, and remember 1 good activity is always going to be better than 5 surface-level ones. Removing the dishonest ones was the right thing to do, good luck!

    • @MaddyA
      @MaddyA  3 роки тому +1

      Hi! Your grade 10 grades don't matter. UBV only considers grade 11 and 12. Very rarely will they look at grade 10 - that's usually if you are missing something in 11 or 12.

      This is a personal profile, not an English essay. Try your best to have good grammar, get it proofread. However at the end of the day, UBC is looking at who you are as a person and they won't reject you because you can't write like Shakespeare.
