I watched all 4 episodes of your videos and they were really great. Warm and straight forward words with good sound quality. What you said was really helpful to me and I'm deeply thankful for that Love from a very very far corner of this globe
thank you so much for your videos about UBC, I just watched them all at once haha! being a student in france, I had a hard time writing my personal profile because I wasn't sure what the expectations of the questions were, and I didn't know much about the Canadian mindset. Your videos helped me a lot, and you seem super nice! So so so helpful, thanks again !!!!!!!!
hey maddy!! For the describe 5 activities question, do you have to go into detail for all 5 activities or do you just list 5 activities and go into detail for two?
Not sure if what they have asked for has changed but I wrote a brief summary for each of them. If they have asked you to go into detail for two of them, then stick with that!
Hi Maddy! I found ur videos r really really helpful and they're kinda inspired me a lot. I was wondering does the UBC admission contact the reference teachers that are listed in the personal profile? I'm on my way in applying for the next winter term XD
I’m not sure - to be safe I would assume yes but I have a hard time believing they contact every single reference for all applicants but then again, I don’t work for UBC admissions so I don’t really know :/ Just assume they do.
Hi Maddy! I just want to let you know this video really really helped me in building my personal profile and god knows how many breakdowns I have had in the last week. Thank you so much
Hi Safia! I can totally relate... I've had several breakdowns this past week about having to go back to school haha - I am glad you found the videos helpful. Feel free to send it to me! I'll do my best to take a look through!
Hi! If a question is optional, it will say so. If it does not say that it is optional, then it is required. There are about 4 or 5 questions that you must answer and from what I remember, there is only 1 optional question.
Hi Maddy! Just wanna say that I appreciate this video and you so much! thank you for making them, my deadline is in 2 weeks and I've been stuck in writing my personal profile but thank god this video exists to guide me XD!! If you have time, I was wondering if I can send mine to you and ask for your thoughts?
Hi Kathleen! I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying them! I'd be more than happy to read through it - just make sure I have the ability to edit it. Send it to my email ... itsmemaddya@gmail.com
So I am I grade 12 student and I want to apply to ubc however, I don’t think im qualified to get in. I definitely have the grades for my program (BSC) as well as all of the classes required and some extras but, I have barley enough volunteer hours to graduate, I havnt played in and community sports in about 2 years and the one school sport I was playing was shut down because of corona. I spend most of my time at home studying and taking care of my siblings. What do you think is the likelihood that I get in and Is there anything I can do to help increase my chances of getting in?
You can always consider starting in a different faculty and then transferring at the end of your first year into Sciences. I can't tell you how likely it is that you get in. There is no magic formula. Apply and see what happens. Unfortunately schools kind of look right through activities you start in grade 12 because they know exactly why you're doing them. Write the best personal profile you can and see what happens! Maybe not the answer you were hoping for but good luck! trust the process :)
im currently working on my ubc application too! I haven't necessarily been involved in sports either but I talked about my other passions and volunteer work. if you haven't already submitted your application maybe you could mention how taking care of your siblings prevented you from volunteering as much as you would like but there are skills and responsibilities you have gained throughout the process. Best of luck and hope you get in!
@@Happypotato917 i actually did end up getting in but i stupidly put okanagan as an option i was okay with going to and they were going to send me there. i ended up opting for the university of alberta instead but yeah if you just explain your situation and have the grades i think youll be fine. just spend as much time on your personal profile as you can. if you have a job or anything else that helps too they just want to know what you spend your free time doing.
Hi Maddy! would you be able to show one example of how you wrote one of your 5 activities that explained your role, responsibilities and what skill you developed? I'm currently writing mine and very stuck:(
Hi EunJi! I briefly do this around the 2 minute mark. I don’t give you all the details because I want to make sure what you write is authentic and true to you. I hope you understand!
Hello Nataliia! Honestly, it kind of depend on who you are. It is also very dependant on what you are a part of. Because there are so many students, joining clubs, teams, or other groups is a great way of meeting people with common interests. It can definitely be overwhelming at first, but don't worry, everyone finds a group of people they click with... it just takes time :)

I don't go into details for this video because the answers vary so much! I give a brief overview instead :)
