  • Turning the limelight on often overlooked creative women, Katy Hessel's The Story of Art Without Men is a landmark publication that changes the landscape of art history forever. We spoke to her in Waterstones Piccadilly about the forces that have kept women from being part of that story for so long, and highlight five artists to begin a new appreciation of what visual arts have to offer.

I hope people see the importance of her book (including the title) instead of getting defensive or offended. Women have been erased from our collective human history...it's time we have at least some TINY bit of recognition.

The art historian who talks more about women rather than of art itself.

Unpopular opinion: I still love Gombrich's book. Sorry.

I am so offended that we have so many art shows with Van Gogh on the ceilings, walls and floors for an immersive experience, and I will not see any women who also have the same opportunity.

Annoying but i have good memory of Waterstones and it is an interesting subject but i would have preferred The Story of Women in art. thanks.
