Hobgoblin Orange used to be an actual Citadel Colour waaay back in the day and at one time hobgoblins were in Warhammer.

Sometimes he's using models from reaper bones and some times a 3d model like the baba yaga house from MMF (minifactory).
Judging from this I'd say it's a reaper bones but i can be wrong and it might be 3d printed

I so agree on switching colors around; I do it especially with skin, which I find to be extremely difficult to get well, especially on larger scale, but I think that my current mix of Salmon Rose, Ivory and a drop of Shadows Flesh work wonders if applied to a white surface, and that's the result of evolution, practially going from all the established skin colors in the range (Sunny skintone, Flesh base and all the rest) through a bunch of other colors until I landed with this - I don't know how many tests I did with different combinations, but I'm very happy I found this.
So nice work (even if the figure itself isn't that goblin-y) there, and an interesting experiment.
You and me both! Even after all this time painting on my end (approximately 12-13 years now?) I'm still learning and figuring some things out on the fly. Half the time I jump in feet first and hope for the best! I've gotten to the point where I like about every other one of the minis I paint, so I guess I'm doing something right.
50% is stupendous for a batting average, so it's all relative lol.
Question for Doctor Faust. I recently started painting minis and your videos have been a great help, and I've gotten some great results thanks to your tutorials and examples, and now I'm wondering if I should clear coat the miniatures. Some say that you should clear coat them to protect the work you did. I spray painted a clear coat on one mini and it really dulled the colors on it. So I stopped and didn't spray the others. Do you have a recommended way of protecting the minis that doesn't change their appearance too much? I haven't watched all your videos yet since I'm still new to this so forgive me if you already went over this in a different video. I hear you say apply a flat varnish, but do you brush it on or spray it on etc...?

Great vid Doc. I noticed that for some of the edge highlighting, your brush was almost flat vice round. Please explain your approach to edge highlighting….mine is always hit or miss. When I “miss” it’s typically because of the thickness of the edge highlight although I attempt to use the edge of the brush where I can (angle dependent on what I have to work around)
My guess is if you're using brush edge and still getting thick lines, you've got too much brush pressure and or paint loaded up.
I'm not Dr Faust obviously, but My experience watching his vids is that he recommends using the edge of your brush so if there's still problems I'm guessing it's elsewhere instead of what part of the brush.
From personal practice, I've noticed I can't paint by feel, waiting till the brush gives resistance, but rather have to paint by sight (bristles bend, paint gets left, etc)
@@michaelsorensen7567 Thanks for the feedback Michael. I reflected on what you wrote about painting by sight vs painting by feel…I’m definitely a paint by sight kind of person. That’s not to say I don’t have techniques where I try to limit pressure but I rely more on paint consistency in the brush and what I’m seeing transfer onto the model.
I think my edge highlighting will improve more over time…I may just not have that fine brush control just yet.

Do you spray your ceramic plate with water to keep the paints from drying quick? Whenever I use a tile and thin my paints out they dry before I can use them fully...
I think he's got a video about the cold palate, but i think the gist of it is that under the ceramic tile there's a thin towel and then ice packs. Keeps the ceramic cold and the combination of cold and condensation on the tile face keep the paint from drying out as quickly.
With your Stormy Blue/Scurvy Green/Gunmetal mix, I found the Vallejo Metal Medium recently, have you used it at all? If so, how does it affect such mixes?
I'm old school, hobgoblins should have blue noses ; )
