    Thank you for the reminder. I unfortunately installed all without the spacer plate. Great video!

    Thanks so much for all these super helpful videos! I’ll be inheriting my grand dad’s 1964 1/2 289 4 speed in a couple months and it’ll need a lot of work. Looking forward to using your channel for tips and tricks. Keep it up man!

    Very good video, I will be using these tips for my install on my 64 Ford Galaxie with 460 and Top Loader.

    You can actually put the clutch disc on first with the alingment tool and then put the pressure plate. The alignment tool will hold the disc on the flywheel so you don't have to hold both together while putting the bolts in.

      You're welcome. One thing I forgot to put in the video, is putting lock tight on the threads of the flywheel bolts. That's something you'll want to do if your crankshaft has pass through holes. Thanks for commenting and subscribing!

    I definitely need to get that Snap-On digital torque wrench. The one I'm using is the Snap-On torque 3/8 head click wrench with manual rotation settings.

    Alf my understanding isthat you need to use anaerobic thread sealant on the flywheel bolts as they are open the the crankcase. This will preclude leaking.

    Thanks for make all that great videos!
    I have 65 mustang with automatic transmission
    So I’m swapping to manual
    I m ready to install the flywheel
    157 tooth
    This Flywheel can be used in 3 different configurations (depending on the vehicle) with the included counterweights, dowel pins and hardware. 0oz. for Internal Balance applications and 28oz. or 50oz. for External Balance applications.
    Can u tell me witch counterweights can I use?
    Your videos motivate me to do
    All this work I have the 4speed toploader already and all accessories to install in this year!
    Thanks !
    You do a great videos !
    Have a bless and great day!

      So I'm just assuming here so this may not be the correct answer but I will do the best I can with what limited information I have about your build. If you have a stock 289 with a 28 oz balancer on the front of the crankshaft, you'll probably want to run the 28 oz flywheel.

      I can't remember, would have to go through my records. Probably in the $2200 range plus bell and shifter, and clutch.

    What part number bolt did you use for the clutch to flywheel? Are these shouldered bolts?
    How long are the flywheel bolts? 1" long thread? Thanks for the vid

      The only thing I have is my conversion video. The automatic comes out and in part 2 the manual goes in.

    Do you recommend to change the flywheel every time we change clutch?

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage  2 місяці тому +2

      No. But I do recommend to change the flywheel or have it turned. That way you are working with a fresh surface either way.

      @@AlfsMustangGarage ...🤣🤣🤣
      I had to change the clutch plate on my 66Mustang convertible, 6cyl. 4speed manual (obviously), many many decades ago with almost no tools or equipment here in Rome..... by myself. Jacked it up onto 2 builders planks, in the road, pulled the gbox out alone, very heavy and uncomfortable, but got the job done and it was fun.
      Thanks Alf from Rome👍🇬🇧

    Do you have to have a new flywheel to install a diaphragm cluch setup or different clutch fork??? I have all original 3 finger setup

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage  3 роки тому +2

      The clutch fork and flywheel are the same if you're using an original style clutch. The only difference is the pressure plate and disc.

    • @carsonanderson89
      @carsonanderson89 3 роки тому +1

      @@AlfsMustangGarage some say when you go to a diaphragm setup you remove the return spring as it's was lighter then an original 3 finger ???

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage  3 роки тому +1

      The return spring on the clutch pedal or on the equalizer bar? Either way, I've never heard that. But I don't talk to a lot of other people😂😂😂

    Is the spacer plate different between an automatic and manual?

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage  3 роки тому +1

      Yes. The automatic will have a removable cover at the bottom for torque converter nut access.

    Alf, I just completed this swap. When I rev the car in neutral, getting a really bad vibration. I have not driven it yet. Do you what that might be. Could the flywheel be out of balance?

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage  11 місяців тому +2

      That is hard to determine from here. But yes the flywheel could be out of balance. But also was the correct weight flywheel used? These small block engines are externally balanced so if there is a 28 ounce crankshaft harmonic balancer, then the flywheel needs to have a 28 ounce to match.

  • @burritos1000
    @burritos1000 2 роки тому

    I take it that this is a 10" clutch. I have an 11" clutch on 351C with 3-finger pressure plate. I went with diaphragm style, but the bolt pattern was different and would not work. Would you know why the difference? The bolt pattern that I need is the same as the one being installed in this video.

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage  2 роки тому

      I'm afraid I would not know why there is a difference. The clutch I used in this video is a 10" LUK clutch and this is a small block Windsor.

    • @burritos1000
      @burritos1000 2 роки тому

      @@AlfsMustangGarageMine was LUK set as well. It seems that for the 11" clutch, the diaphragm clutch plate has different bolt pattern than the three-prong plate. The three-prong has the bolt pattern in somewhat a triangle pattern with three pairs of bolts with the pair of bolts closer together. Just like yours. I returned mine and put the 30yr old clutch plate back on. New disk, though. Not too worried since I only put few hundred miles in a year. Thanks for the reply!

    is it a 3 speed original clutch and flywheel? or on what car did you order it?

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage  3 роки тому +1

      This is a 4 speed and this is not an original clutch. The flywheel is original but we used a LUK clutch.
