I have lived here in Alton for all 21 years of my life, and in the same house for 20 of those years. I can tell you, I have noticed a major decline when they adapted said building codes. But even before then there was a slight drop in population. It's sad... I remember when Alton had almost 40,000 residents at one point. And seeing pictures in groups of what Alton used to look like is a shame. This town had a ton of potential and still does if they redevelop what they tear down. Absolutely LOVE the Alton videos, and anything cool that you share with the world!! I love that someone is covering the loss of property in town! A+++
I do enjoy this kind of video, especially these from the areas where I can relate to. I'm 77, lived in the general area my whole life, and have even been in some of the places or neighborhoods you are documenting. Keep on keeping on.
I love the stonework around the building, it definitely looks like it was influenced from medieval times. It’s unfortunate to see that apartment abandoned, which you can tell was built to last forever. I can only imagine how the founders of Alton never thought over 100 years later that the town would end up deteriorating so much. Nonetheless, we took a trip across the river this month when we were visiting in St. Louis to see Alton. I must say you still have a nice, beautiful and unique little town. Then, I can only imagine how much better it probably was back in the day. I love the river and the old red brick streets. Not to mention, I also enjoyed the casino where I played and won $80.00, which basically more than paid for our lunch during our visit in Alton.
I enjoy your videos there’s a house next door to me that a slum landlord owns and he fixed everything halfway fast the house is abandoned now it’s pretty sad that landlords don’t care about the safety of their tenants I bet the reason A lot of the abandoned houses you explore was on fire was cause of the very old electrical

That house looks huge and yes, I enjoy watching videos like this. Thanks for all of the history too.
Thanks
Really it’s sad the state of these communities, the unfortunate thing is all of it could have been avoided.
Merry Christmas Tony!
Thanks
