The 2017 Accent has a brace/support for the cat attached by two bolts, made access better by removing it. I also pulled the wipers off and removed the plastic cover to have just a little more room.

Unburned fuel kills catalytic converters quickly….meaning spark plugs going bad, fuel pressure regulator problems…
Amazing video. I have the same code on a 2008 Hyundai Veracruz. Unfortunately there seems to be even less clearance than what you had on that Accent. Going to be something to get the bad catalytic converter out and install a new one. But your video will help immensely. Thanks for sharing.

A very helpful video thanks i didn't think about getting a catalytic converter from Amazon, what i would have done is cleaned the o2 sensor while it was out and it would have been nice to see the inside of the blocked one, take care.
I ordered both O2 sensors and will do this job this weekend. Figured might as well change them out. Hoping I don't cause issues introducing non OEM sensors.

This video was so thorough. I have a 2016 accent that’s spurting when I’m stopped at a light.. and whenever I get to 20 mph it spurts or struggles to pick up power. I put in some cataclean and it subsided for a few days but then came back.. I’m also getting that catalyst code.. I’m going to order a cat and do the job myself thanks to this video.
Part ordered but I do have one question if you’re willing to answer. How do I know that I don’t need to order the part that the catalytic converter/manifold flange hooks up to.. 16:07 you’ll see the part that I’m talking about.
Do a valve clean and engine flush, then replace the spark plugs. I was having similar issues and now my car runs like new but still have 420 code so might need to replace cat

Hey man I had the same code and I replaced mine with a new one from eBay like you did and it just came back after few miles
up stream and down stream 02 sensors are NOT suppose to look alike on the graph!!!! up stream should move up and down. The down stream sensor should be mostly flat lined.

I live in California. G ot the code for our 2015 Kia Rio EX. Did not quote a dealership. However a Mechanic shop is charging $2.218.00 for the work. Including the replacement of two oxigen Sensors
I passed emissions by using the gallon of Lacquer Thinner. Sure code will comeback. It has been off for a while

They need to make it a tad smaller so it doesn't eat up the top when taking it out from the top. And hitting those metal lines, etc. Thanks for the video. That O2 sensor came out way too easy :) How many miles did this accent have? I think loosening the motor mount and lowering engine to a bit would also make it easier and more room to work. My dealer wants 2K for changing it. Didn't say how much the cat cost was in that mix. Doing it this weekend. Wish me luck. :) 2016 Accent GDI 1.6

That's what I was thinking... because they won't ship it to you if you live in California or it will say non CARB compliant for CA. And if you live in a state that doesn't have strict smog restrictions the catalytic converter is still cheap if you buy it at the Hyundai Dealership like $300 compared to California which would be over $2,000

On the heat shield, where the O2 is, I cut a slit so if I have to replace it again, I don't have to take the shield off.

Rule of thumb….the upstream will be position before the CAT and downstream will be position after CAT

A little over 5 minutes in and I have the same code, but I'm losing motor oil and there are no outside leaks indicating a crack or anything. 😅
Someone said that it was a seal around my engine thats going bad and causing my catalytic converter to get hit by oil. I have no idea what I need to do right now because my engine is now starting to stutter from time to time. 😢
Check your spark plugs ….if they are oil soaked or burned up….you most likely have piston rings getting oil bliw bye…

Thanks for the video. What was the cause of the cat failure for your friend? My accent keeps burning engine oil which basically destroyed the cat. While I am willing to try installing a new cat, I am afraid my engine burning the engine oil will melt the cat again… not to mention hyundai and kia cars are notorious for burning engine oil…

I have 2017 accent burning oil an messed up cat and today it got so bad it was wanting to cut off at stops an sluggish when take off and would bearly do 60 with the peddle pushed to the floor
do an engine oil flush if you havent already, clean your intake valves and fuel injectors (the GDi engines intakes get clogged with carbon from the combustion proccess) your car will run smoother at lower rpms which will in turn slow the oil consumption. never underestimate the power of frequent oil changes along with preventive maintenance

A cat can cause you’re car not to start, not to car savvy but researched into it, went to a shop and had them change it so paid just labor and they told me they had an Audi come in and it wouldn’t even start because of the cat

Hey man, appreciate the video. I replaced my catalytic converter on my 14 Accent a while ago, probably 40,000 miles ago. I no longer had the original issues I was experiencing. And I did clear the code. However, the code ended up coming back after a few days. Any advice on next steps?
Did you also replace the O2 sensors? Typically have to replace both of those at the same time.
Did your car shake real bad and stall?

How on earth did you get those bolts out from the flex pipe without dropping the crossmember? I’ve been struggling for HOURS to get the crossmember down so I can have hand room to get to the bolts on that flex pipe (which are hella rusted😣) I’ve connected many extension bars to try and move along the pipe but it’s not working.

Is that car from California? Or NY? Because Dealer Catalytic converters are usually that expensive in those states because of strict smog regulations. Other states even if you get it from the Dealership it's way cheaper...

Since it comes out through top, jack stands are fine. Just need to get under it for removing some bolts.
I replaced my catalytic converter, both o2 sensors, pcv valve, spark plugs, and coil packs at the same time. In 3 weeks the code came back. Any ideas?
Fuel pressure regulator may be acting up…dumping more fuel through the exhaust causing codes and also leaking injectors but that’s hard to diag unless you bench test the injectors not on the engine….you may be running into a “running rich” issue but you won’t notice unless you have a computer to read the o2 sensor output or smell strong fuel odors.

I'm trying to find one for a 2016 Hyundai Tucson Sport 1.6 T. The dealership is trying to charge me $3500, and I can't afford it. I'm trying to find one that fits. Got the engine replaced. Two days later engine light turns on and the m echanics at the dealership said catalytic converter needs to be replaced again. Used cataclean and engine light turned off for 3 days but turned back on. It runs fine and all just don't know. Need help on what I should do

I also have a 2014 Hyundai Accent putting up the P0420 fault code. The mechanic told me that, because the catalytic converter is CARB (California) compliant, the internal computer won't allow a non CARB compliant converter to be installed, and is wanting to charge me $3000 to replace it. Is there any truth to this?
Well unfortunately California has SMOG compliance tests every year if I’m not mistaken. Technically I don’t believe it would make a difference but passing the smog tests I can’t be 100% sure on that. Now for your question….the converter it’s self should not make any difference on what the cars computer is reading…I call BS on that 3000 dollars to replace…..the only difference between a California compliant cat and a regular cat is that they are made differently. But shouldn’t mess you cars ecu up.

Is the new cat supposed to sound loud? And like a race car when accelerating? Also does a lot of wd-40 cause a weird smell and faint white smoke from the front? I just replaced mine and I’m terrified 😭

It's possible the cheapo $169 cat doesn't have the same quality as OEM and causing exhaust to be louder. Also, the CAT likely has oil, etc. on it during storage to keep it from rusting. It should burn off eventually as the cat gets very hot. With the rare elements in a cat, I don't see how they sell them so cheap unless.....

What would cause the manifold to get red hot. 2020 elantra 2.0
The catalytic converter is just likely clogged because so much Unburned fuel is dumping into the manifold/CAT basically causing a fire inside the manifold.
@Gasdieselgarage what would cause this, and any advice on a fix. Not one code. No CEL. Dealership says cats not under warranty.
But recall on piston rings. I was thinking burning oil clogging it... just noticed first time last week after smelling a burn smell after long hwy drive
@@RedCapMusik well if you do have a piston ring problem then yes most likely you are getting unwanted oil and fuel blow bye into your exhaust…I can see the manifold getting hot with that scenario. Sorry to hear that….if you are able I’d pull the spark plugs out and look at their condition….if they look like charcoal then you really do have a problem

@Gasdieselgarage I was actually topping it up when I had a Fram oil filter. Shop put on. I changed it and since have had no issues as far as losing oil.
I pulled the plugs last week. They didn't look to to bad. A little black but no soaked. It was after this I noticed the manifold being red hot. Not sure if that could have caused it or just that I happened to catch the glowing after I did this
Was considering replacing with new ones as I feel maybe spark not strong enough thus allowing unburnt fuel into exhaust. They (Dealer) say the stock plugs are good to 100k. But I doubt that.
I know this is old but why didn't you put in a new o2 sensor as well.
The customer had already put one in previously thinking it was only a sensor problem unfortunately it wasn’t…I would always recommend replacing a with a new sensor regardless. I know probably should have mentioned that

So do you know if the check engine came back on? Because you do know , you have to wait a certain driving time or milage for the computer to let you know if the code still persists.
