BUENG KAN, THAILAND (บึงกาฬ) - Bueng Kan is a quiet and very relaxing province in the Northeastern region of Thailand known as Isan. It’s located along one of the widest parts of the Mekong River, and so you can guarantee you’re in for some freshwater Mekong River fish! Today, we’re going to eat at one of the best Mekong River fish Thai / Lao food restaurants, and you’re going to love the Chef!
Located along the Mekong River bank in Bueng Kan city, Khrua Paw Kaew (ครัวปอแก้ว) is probably the best restaurant in town. And Chef Paw is known for serving fresh Mekong River fish. Everyday he gets the fresh catch, fish that are native to the Mekong River, and some fish that are typically only found in this region of the Mekong. Because Bueng Kan is right across the river from Laos, both Isan and Laos share a culture, and food. So at his restaurant he serves a combination of Thai, Chinese, and Lao food.
I immediately loved Chef Paw as soon as I met him, friendly, laid back, all about river fish, all while having some serious cooking skills in the kitchen. Also, you will love his full Chef outfit - he is the Mekong River Chef!
I just let Chef choose the dishes for us and he got to work preparing a number of dishes with the fish he had on hand for the day. The meal was outstanding, so much powerful flavor, so many herbs and spices, fresh river fish and serious cooking skills. It was so much fun to hang out with Chef Paw in the kitchen and watch him in the zone, flying on the dishes.
Highly recommended, a must eat Thai Lao food restaurant when you’re in Bueng Kan, Thailand!

I wonder what people eat in Thailand , if they can't eat spicy food? Every dish i see is full of chilies , on top of other spices...
I don’t like spicy 🌶 food , i can’t even handle low level of spiciness. If it’s a nicer restaurant, you can just tell them you don’t like your food spicy, but almost all pre-made dishes are too much for most western people.
I don’t know why, but Thai cuisine doesn’t really appeal to me because to me it always look like just a lot of chili and coconut milk and some herb combinations that sounds like it would collide with the other flavors. I can still appreciate the skills behind Thai dishes but I’m not feeling “I have to try that dish” when watching Thai cuisine videos. I’ve tried some Thai food and sadly it tasted like I expected it to... Just a lot of chili with the occasional veggie or meat in coconut milk... Just killing it with chili... I don’t like most Indian food either though, to me seasoning in food is only supposed to enhance the flavor of the main components of a dish, I don’t like food where it’s just killed with chili and other spices, if needing that much seasoning to a food then it does make you wonder about the quality of ingredients, at least when you’re used to typical Swedish foods (though not Surströmming, I guess Surströmming could work in Thai or Indian cuisine though because all the chili could kill the rotten fish smell)
I can handle spicy foods, I just really don’t like it. But that’s just my personal preference, I’m more into Chinese cuisine and especially Shanghainese and Jiangsu province type cuisine which is more sweet and more about enhancements instead of hiding behind chili. The only time to me that spicy food look nice is Korean food, I do like kimchi and I’d love to try those rice cakes in the red sauce sometime if I can find a Korean restaurant anywhere near where I live. It’s nice people have different preferences though! Just imagine how boring food vlogs would be if every foodie just went to the same place all the time. The diversity in videos are nice and it doesn’t matter to me if a video makes me want to try the dish sometime or not, it’s just interesting to see food from around the world
They have various of foods without spicy but only Mark he loves it. Look at the Thai kids they cannot handle spicy at all so they eat foods without spicy or you can tell seller for not too spicy as original level.
Someone please give this man his own show on tv! Or make him the food/travel ambassador of Thailand!!!

This is why i love cooking thai dishes. All natural ingredients, herbs and spices gives a magnificent taste, no salt and pepper needed!!
Have you not noticed the amount of MSG the cooks use in Marks videos, it’s a wildly used chemical to enhance flavour. Although many Asian countries say the criticism has more to do with racism than health concerns.
In the west, this manufactured additive has been blamed for a number of adverse reactions - headaches, sweating, flushing, numbness of the face and neck, palpitations, nausea, chest pain and sleeplessness - known collectively as “Chinese restaurant syndrome”. Restaurants that use MSG don’t brag about it. Whilst many countries haven’t banned its use, the concerning reason nobody is actively researching its usage impact is on health is because millions of food products would be unsaleable once it was removed. The problem with natural healthy food is very bland, has poor storage abilities, making it unpalatable. The food industry, especially processed food would go bankrupt in weeks.
Thai food is healthy if you eat at home with only fresh ingredients, it’s very unhealthy once a chef or processed food is introduced into the process, making it potentially really unhealthy.

Yes in certain regions within Asia their healthier nutritionally. That changes in areas that now have street food outlets who’ve now adapted to use MSG. You’ve seen the various different carrots, corn, lettuce, tomatoes etc for example or rice and grains, plants, trees not one food product has remained original.
